How to save Instagram photos to the Camera roll

InstaSave Featured

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could save your favorite Instagram photos directly to your Camera roll? Well, that’s the exact premise behind a new jailbreak tweak called InstaSave. InstaSave is an extremely simple tweak, in fact there are no settings to configure after installation.

Once installed, you’ll notice a new Save option appear after tapping the ellipsis button when viewing your favorite photos. Take a look inside for more details as to how InstaSave works.

Before InstaSave is installed, and after InstaSave is installed

As you can see, the new Save button appears neatly beneath the Report Inappropriate, Share to Facebook, and Tweet buttons. It looks as if the Save button is a stock feature that was there all along, and doesn’t stand out as awkward or obtuse.

Once you tap save, the image appears in your Camera roll

Once you save your favorite photos, a Save dialogue will briefly fade over the photo in question, and the photo will be whisked away to your local Camera roll. While it is true that you could just opt to take a screenshot of your screen and crop the photo, this method eliminates the need to crop any photos.

InstaSave is a free jailbreak tweak available right now on Cydia’s BigBoss repo. If you’re a heavy Instagram user, then I suggest giving it a try. What do you think?

Jeff just curious, is this tweak different from Instagram’s built-in “Save to Photos” option?

    • Jeff

Yes this lets you save other people’s images.

        Ah cool, thanks!

For non-jailbroken users: Take a screenshot of the entire screen (Press the Power and the home button at the same time). Go to the camera roll, select your screenshot, tap on Edit then crop the screenshot by selecting only the photo. Tap Save and you’re done.

    • Jeff

Yep, that’s what I suggested, but it’s much more convoluted than this tweak.

There’s an Instagram client app called Gramory in the App Store that gives you the option to save natively. It’s a pretty cool app overall too.

You can also save them from Cooliris app found on Appstore

This tweak doesn’t work, I installed it opened Instagram and no save button, then I installed the update and now the button shows up And when I tap it and go to camera roll there’s no picture.

      Works for me.

You need to jailbreak to do this trivial thing? These things are never mentioned in the Android community because they are taken for granted

Saving Instagram pictures is normal for Android users? Wow you guys have been creeping longer than us iOS users. No wonder they waited on releasing an app for you guys.
