Twitter app updated with improved search and account management

By , Nov 15, 2012

Hot on the heels of Facebook issuing an update to its mobile apps, Twitter has done the same for its official iOS clients. The update brings the Twitter app to version 5.1, and includes some nice enhancements like an improved search and Discovery tab, and new account management features…

From the release notes:

  • See what’s popular within your network on Discover - Tweets, tailored just for you, now appear right in the stream. These Tweets show photo, video, and article previews so you can engage easily.
  • Get a new perspective when you search - A stream of relevant photos appears at the top of your search results. Results also show media previews for your viewing pleasure.
  • Manage your account with ease - If you’ve forgotten your password, now you can reset it in a few simple steps. If you’ve chosen to protect your Tweets, you can manage your follow requests from your iPhone or iPad.

The fact that photos now show up at the top of search queries is particularly interesting. A few weeks ago, reports surfaced that Twitter was looking to up its photo sharing offerings with Instagram-like filters and other improvements.

If you’re interested in checking out the new Twitter, you can find it in the App Store, for free.

The official twitter client looks terrible compared to other apps like Tweetbot. Also, what happened to good old pull to refresh. Why a load new tweets cell?
