The Dev Team has updated its popular jailbreak utility RedSn0w today, bringing the software to version 0.9.15b3. Although it closely follows Apple’s release of iOS 6.0.1, it doesn’t seem to include any 6.0.1-specific changes.

What it does include, though, are a handful of bug fixes and improvements that should make the jailbreaking process much smoother. We’ve got the full change log after the break…

From the Dev Team blog:

“Version 0.9.15b3 fixes the redsn0w “error 2601” that Windows users were seeing using the Restore button.  It also fixes a related Windows iTunes error 14 for stitched files.   Note that if you have a baseband, you should probably avoid stitching and simply use redsn0w’s native Restore (not iTunes). “

It’s worth noting once again that RedSn0w can only jailbreak a few devices running iOS 6, and even then it’s a tethered hack. So if you haven’t already, make sure you read our State of the iOS 6 Jailbreak post before trying it.

Regardless, it’s always good to have the latest version of RedSn0w. And as always, you can find it on our Downloads page. For those looking for help with the utility, I’m sure Jeff will be along with a video tutorial on it shortly.

Waiting dearly to finally update to iOS 6, but I can’t risk a tethered jailbreak given I reboot at least twice a day, and not always near my MacBook. I could tolerate a semi-tethered jailbreak.

    • Twice a day? How come?

      • queen_ir3ne

Cuz the tweaks I have are extremely buggy. The sacrifice.

  • Finally!!!! iOS 6, here I come. I have a 3GS (old-bootrom), so it’s untethered :p

Edit: Looks like I still stuck at iOS 5… The restore doesn’t hacktivate… (at least they fixed the 2601 error).

    • No .. It’s just a update to fix bugs… This is not a untethered jailbreak..

      • Guest

        3GS “old-bootrom” is untethered on iOS6.

      • And at what point was the post I was replying to gave this information ? . If he had a old bootrom 3GS he wouldn’t be asking this question would he …

  • I have an iPod Touch 5, will upgrading to 6.0.1 lessen the chances of my being able to use the A5 iOS 6.x.x Jailbreak whenever it eventually comes out?
Or will it only work for iOS 6.0?

    • At this moment know one knows yet.. The people working on the jailbreak will be testing this .I’am sure they will let us know

    • tim

MuscleNerd suggested to stay on 6.0 *if* you’re already on it. But last time around they were saying the untethered will be for 5.0 not 5.0.1, in the end it was the other way around, so don’t be too worried if you’ve already upgraded

  • Is there any news about untethered jailbreak on A4 devices running iOS 6.0?
Is there any news about untethered at all?

Anyone any ideas on how to get my Jailbroken iPad 2 IOS 5.0.1 up to jailbroken 5.1.1? The problem is its an OTA update to 5.0.1 which seems to stop me from updating it using redsn0w/tinyumbrella etc.

  • iOS 6 will have an untethered jailbreak but it won’t be working until around christmas time so i’m afraid we all have some more waiting to do.

  • I’m fairly new to jailbreaking, and this seems like a perfect opportunity to ask; do I re apply a jailbreak when updating redsn0w? I have a working jb off the 0.9.15b2 release, and when I went from b1 to b2 I messed myself up and took a couple hours and a couple restores to get the jailbreak to retake. I wasn’t able to find anything relevant through google on updating from one version of a jailbreak with redsn0w to another. Any answers or is there an article somewhere I could read up on for future reference?

    • nope, the updates are more to fix problems with the stability of the softwre running on the computer, not the jailbreak on the ipod, those problems are fixed through updated cydia packages
