If you’ve yet to lay eyes on an iPhone 5, or compare the iPhone 5 to stock apps running on lesser iPhone hardware, then this video is for you.

Inside, we take a look at the majority of the stock iPhone apps, and compare them side-by-side running on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S hardware. Besides the obvious added spacing, most of the differences are fairly subtle.

One thing you will notice, however, is that keyboard keys are slightly larger, and there’s more room on screen to see content like messages, and message composition panes. Simply put, once you get used to the iPhone 5’s roomier screen, anything less seems claustrophobic.

We’ve also taken the liberty to export a large jpeg which showcases each of the iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S stock app comparisons side-by side. You can download the full image by clicking on the smaller image below.

What do you think about the way Apple’s utilizing the extra real estate? Personally, I find it just fine, it’s nice to have room to “stretch out” a bit.

Are 16 GB on a iPhone 5 enought? I had on my iPhone 4 (16 GB) 10 GB free Space.

    • If you didn’t go over on the 4, you won’t go over on the 5. Apps are still the same size, pictures may take a bit more space do to better resolution, and videos as well. But not that serious if you transfer them off after a while. I usually take pictures off after each event that I attend, that I may take a lot of pictures. Parties, vacations, concerts/shows.

I’ve always purchased the 16Gb and I’ve always downloaded a lot of games. But I realized why do I have a lot of these games installed when I don’t even play them. If you only download what your going to us and play then 16Gb is plenty of space. I use Spotify for music so I don’t have any songs in my iPod. I have 4 games that I know I will play:

        – Zynga Poker 40Mb
        – Light The Night 32Mb
        – Dead Trigger 293Mb
        – Traffic Rush 13Mb
        – Asphalt 7 1.5Gb

Then I have a few picture editing Apps and iMovie (519Mb), all other Apps very from 15Mb – Instagram 133Mb. It’s the game videos and Music that kills you, so download thing that you know you’re going to use. By the way @disqus_eRTNvF1tfk:disqus 16gb iPhone 5 out of the box has 13.5Gb of free space.

      • the music is the hog of the bunch so as long as you limit your music space you’ll be fine.

    • i would go with a 32gb, just to be safe as i rock the iphone 4 and use alot of apps, i would rather have it installed then to have to constantly clean up the phone. i use tom tom gps app thats huge, then once u start taking alot of photos, videos, use icloud, and other big apps, space shrinks really quickly, its just well worth it if you take alot of photo, and videos and dont want to constantly back stuff up and remove from the phone, do you have to have bigger than 16gb no, but if helps.

      Go with a 32gb

      • I second this. 32 is the sweet spot. Not too much, not too little.

      • can you fill up the 32 on stuff you’ll actually use not including music lol i cant fill up my 16 with every day stuff i actually for got i had some apps on my iPhone and found my self trying to re-download them lol

      • My is 16g and 305 mob free no music so go 32 and up recommend 🙂

    • Since the very first iPhone I’ve gone with the lowest capacity. 3G and up was 16gb and I now regret buying an iPhone 5(16gb) with this one I’d go with 32 if you like games and lots of music

    • 16 is enough for me especially now that iOS 6 streams iTunes Match instead of always downloading them I have 6gb of free space because my music is no longer physically on my phone.

  • One thing’s for sure. You’re going to need an umbrella the next three days.

      • Check the notification center screen. Lightning all the way!

  • Jeff, don’t forget to buy dog food, groom and pet the dog.

    • Andy

Interesting to see a reminder to the pet the dog :).

  • Some like the iPhone 5, some don’t. I personally don’t see the point of upgrading to this. But just in case, this is just an FYI: the iZettle card reader won’t fit the iPhone 5. You will have to use an adapter which will be released in October. The mPowa card reader and others so far I have not known to have any issues with it.

And to think, before the iPhone 5, the fanboy crowd thought anything larger than 3.5″ was too big.

Now it’s the best thing thing since sliced bread.

sheep are followers, not leaders/trend setters

    • You’re very funny!!

  • You forgot Instagram app! Now it supports iOS 6 n iPhone 5. Go download now!

  • mo

    looks better

  • Appletiser

“keyboard keys are slightly larger” really? in the Notes app both keyboards look identical.

    • Kok Hean

      In landscape mode.

      • Appletiser

but these screen shots are all in portrait format so the “slightly larger” comment is still not applicable here 🙂 thanks for the info though.

  • Irfan Tarique

Why would apple increase the screen size? yet there is no good reason but maybe in the future versions something is going to be added to use up the new larger display. or maybe they just made the screen larger so that they can make the phone thinner by increasing the surface area. Maybe both, who knows?

  • Cowboys SUCK!

  • Nice.

    • Kurt

yeah its cool to see so many comparisons

  • Kurt

most things look better on the 3.5″ since they were originally designed for them and now with the 4 inch (should have been widened too) it has a stretched feel to them and placement of objects could have been thought-out better, thats on an artistic level.

but taller is nice to have but wider is equally as good. you can’t hold the phone and hit all areas of either phone unless you hold the phone with the tips of your 4 fingers. so there’s no real good reason not to widen it also.

    • Kok Hean

If they’re going to widen it while keeping the current PPI, it’s going to have a weirder resolution a.k.a. increasing app fragmentation.

      • Kurt

increase it proportionally? but that won’t happen. the nokia lumia 920 looks more beautiful these days. just want to know how well windows 8 will do. about 110,000 apps now. i think win 8 will either be huge or a bust. dont think it will be something in the middle.
