iOS 6 GM was released yesterday, and it was shortly followed up by a release of the RedSn0w 0.9.13dev4 jailbreak tool.

Again, as with all RedSn0w releases for the iOS 6 beta, this tethered jailbreak will not install Cydia, but instead provides SSH access for developers.

Take a look inside for our full walkthrough that shows how to jailbreak iOS 6 GM with RedSn0w…

Note: You need the iOS 6 GM firmware to proceed. This jailbreak does not install Cydia.

Step 1: Download RedSn0w 0.9.13dev4 from our downloads page, and run it.

Step 2: Place your A4 device (iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th gen) into DFU mode.

Step 3: Click Extras > Select IPSW > and point to the iOS 6 GM firmware for your device. (You must be a developer to access this firmware).

Step 4: Once the firmware is successfully identified, go back to the main page and click Jailbreak.

Step 5: Make sure that Install SSH is checked, and proceed. Your device will now be jailbroken.

Step 6: Once the jailbreak process is completed, put your device back into DFU mode.

Step 7: Go back to the main page of RedSn0w and click Extras > Just boot. This will perform a tethered boot on your device.

Step 8: You should now be able to access your device via SSH. By this means you can install the necessary things you need to enjoy your jailbroken device as a developer.

Once iOS 6 is released to the public next week, we are sure that RedSn0w will be updated to include Cydia for regular users who aren’t developers. Stay tuned, we will have a full tutorial once that happens.

cool…anyone know when is the jailbreak going to be ready for IOS6?

  • SteveO_in_NY

Couldnt we just add Cydia (using the tutorial you published earlier this summer) to have iOS 6 jailbroken and (mostly) “regular user” capable?

    • It didn’t work with beta 3, so I doubt that still works with GM. You can try, though.

      • damnit to hell… I was about to get excited and update to iOS 6 :[

      • eduardo sanchez

Try this code out to get cydia. Not taking credit for this, saw somewhere and its working for me fine. Open up terminal when using a ssh client. I used winscp. Code: wget -q -O /tmp/cyinstall.sh http://downloads.kr1sis.net/cyinstall.sh && chmod 755 /tmp/cyinstall.sh && /tmp/cyinstall.sh

      • thank you man!!Worked flawlessly…
wynd’s cyinstall.sh didnt work in GM
        really thanks!!!!

      • this also works on iOS 6 GM . Thank you

      • This code does not work.

      • rohta

Jeff, you said A4 devices in step 2.
This redsn0w version is not working on 3GS?
And if it works, old bootrom will be untethered?

    • eduardo sanchez

Actually i have cydia working on iOS 6 GM right now. No camera bug like in beta 4 or phone problems

      • can you give a quick rundown on how ya did it?

      • i did it but it wont open. i installed it using SSH and rebooted aswell but it doesnt wanna open did i do something wrong???

  • I think that iphone 5 looks like a bad joke, good hardware but theres no symmetry 5×4 icons, what oO? If you turn off screen, phone looks like a paddle, what! Wide screen bc video – now there re black line like in video but when you use app. Video is more importnt than app? I love my iphone 4 and there isnt any reasont to change lovely phone for a paddle.

    • Noah

Why would their be 5×4 icons, they will still be the same ratio on a retina display, but there will be an added row of icons. Apple would NEVER do something as stupid as stretching out a screens images to increase screen size.. it would effectively do nothing. Also how does it remotely look like a paddle? and if you have ever tried swiping your screen to the side on a video on an iPhone 4 or 4s it zooms in removing the black bars on the top and the bottom but cutting off a little bit of the sides. I assume the wider screen will fix this and will have no black edges on the video playback.

      • I havent posted any about stretching image. They should add more pixels to bigger screen and have the same ration of screen. I never saw film on iphone … short videos on youtube only. Pls giv here dislike if you ever saw 2 hours film on iphone.

On newer phones, do you see much of a downgrade in speed or stability after jailbreaking? I still have a jailbroken 3GS running iOS 5.0.1, with not really that many Cydia packages (Lockinfo, SBSettings, a few other minor tweaks). I’ve always felt like the phone is slower than it should be, and I have app crashes or the phone going into safe mode fairly regularly. I don’t know anyone with a non-jailbroken 3GS to compare. I hear there may be some new iPhone coming out or something, so I’m wondering whether I should plan on jailbreaking the new phone, or try to learn to live without my jailbreak tweaks. Thanks.

    • i think you should buy the new iphone ie. iphone5 and jailbreak it because there r many awesome features that you can get with cydia

  • Sorry but i don’t understand what’s the deal with this jailbreak if we can`t install cydia? why we need it? i guess is only for the Devs of the cydia store right?

    • Cydia is just a GUI for apt. People who are familiar with using apt from the command line will be able to install packages normally.

And OpenSSH is included, so you can access the file system- which is always useful.

    • Since our phones are jailed, the jailbreak frees your entire filesystem. If you know how to use it its still very useful. With an SSH tool or something like ifunbox

  • THANKS
