Question of the week: How do you feel about the removal of the stock YouTube app?

Now that the dust has settled from the revelation that Apple has done away with the stock YouTube app, what are your thoughts?

We’ve polled you about your YouTube app usage, but now we want some in-depth insight on your feelings about YouTube’s removal from iOS 6…

Last week, we asked you about the prospect of Apple developing its own gaming controller, so in this week’s video, we share a few of your answers to that question as well.

    Not really an issue; there is no stock FaceBook app and I use that even more than the YouTube application, and that’s just one out of many examples. If I want to watch YouTube videos I’ll either just use the browser or get the app from the AppStore; it takes what, 15 seconds?

    Now that I think about it, I actually kind of like not having the apps ‘forced’ on my phone. Sure, the Calculator and Clock app are apps that pretty much everyone uses but apps like Stocks and YouTube should not be there, it might be annoying for people that never use them. In short: I’m not bothered.

    Surprisingly I’ll miss that app, no matter how much it sucked. Not sure why considering I strongly disliked it but it just has always been in iOS and it seems empty without it…

      Interesting perspective. I guess it does look a little weird without it on the Home screen. It’s been a staple since iPhoneOS 1.0.

    I use the stock app all the time, but based on your comments I must be unaware of a much better app for YouTube. I find using the app much more user friendly and convenient than accessing YT through a web browser. What do you use, Jeff?

      I use Safari or Chrome. The web experience is much better than the stock app imo.

        In what way do you feel it’s better? Some of the reasons I like the app are that it doesn’t have the safari address bar and tabs taking up space on the top, I prefer to have the shortcut buttons on the bottom rather than having to do 2 taps in Safari (grid button on the top right, then tap shortcut), also in the app there’s always a search field on the top right, where in Safari you have to tap the magnifying glass then tap text field. The website shows fewer video thumbs in search results so I have to tap “show more” more often. When accessing my subscriptions, the app shows a full scrolling list on the left and all new videos by default on the screen. In web browser it shows subs in a grid and doesn’t show all of them (again with the “show more” button) and you again have to do at least 2 taps to see any videos. And finally, the app definitely feels a bit more responsive…quicker. I just realized the app doesn’t give access to the inbox, but I rarely every use/check it so that doesn’t bother me.

        ok iam never playing video over browser in ios. when i click on shortcut in browser or mail.app its automaticaly open in youtube app. i dont uderstant how you watch videos only in safari or CHROME

    I’m going to miss it to be completely honest, it’s gonna be a pain to go into the app store and download it again after you restore but i must mention that Protube is a great alternative

      ya it’s a pretty terrible stocks app. CNBC Real-time is way better, and the quotes aren’t delayed

      They don’t have to get rid of it even though it’s completely useless for most people (99%). You just have to move it into your utilities folder where all the other useless apps are. e.g. Contacts – You have a phone app, that has ‘contacts’ in it. Compass – I’ve haven’t touched this in years now. Voice Memos – I think most people don’t even know what it does.

      Doing this will make you feel complete. :D

    I don’t think there should be any stock apps like these. The only apps that need to be pre-installed on the iPhone are the ones necessary for basic functions of the phone. We have the App Store for everything else.

    Well. I really wanted a change, because everyone knows that it was too slow. (At least on iphone version). Revamp it or erase it.
    Personally I wanted a revamped version. But if apple doesn’t want to revamp, then it is better to erase it rather than left it.
    And of course, google will gonna make a new youtube apps for ios(which will be much better than the previous one). Which means that either you like an youtube app version or mobile web version, everyone will be happy in the end.

    I feel just fine. Dear Apple, can you please remove Newsstand also?
    I need to have options to install alternative apps.
    Keep Newsstand, YouTube and Stocks apps in AppStore… I will get it if I want…

      I think that they just need to combine iBooks and newsstand. Bookstand? OH WAIT, Nikos Lycousas already did that. Now apple just has to pay him for his jailbreak tweak.

    I don’t use it, and have already removed it from my home screen in the Restrictions settings. I just wish wish we could remove all useless stock apps, e.g. Compass, Photobooth, Stocks, Newsstand, etc. Even some of the useful ones I’d replace with 3rd party apps, e.g. Sparrow, Chrome, etc. Why can we delete only YouTube, Safari, FaceTime, iTunes and Camera?

    Really, who needs Compass?

    I mainly rely on youtube for my subscriptions. I dont surf random videos. The youtube stock app sucked for personal user preferences. I just got ProTube recenelty and after seeing how much better that is I dont mind apple removing the stock app as long as their working on something better…Im sure even if its not stock, youtube will still be a downloadable app.

    we will just lose the convienience of watching our subscriptions with the stock youtube app, i mean like its easier to watch daily uploads with the stock youtube app.
    other than that the ui looks bad. and i hate it when i open a youtube link and it brings me to the app

    Disappointed.. I use it everyday on my Ipad and my iPhone. I was able to get to YouTube much faster and the people I subscribed to and see there new videos as soon as they posted it. It was just easier for me that’s all. I hope that if google makes a YouTube app that it will be free.

    Well,it’s a little bit awkward not having it there cause many have been acustimated with it :/ But I think its for the better, Google can build it and make it better and more feature rich etc. I’m looking forward to the new revamped YouTube app, that I’ll love to use compared to the one right now :) Protube for now, though expectations are high, I’ll patiently wait for the new YouTube app :)

    Under the settings section, one has the option of logging on to Twitter & actually installing it. In regards of Tube, Facebook etc. it SHOULD be done optional. I Prefer to chose and decide wether I want tube and Facebook app or not!

    Youtube was working proberly on safari now Whenever i open a video it says “this video is currently unavailable” so i had to use the Youtube stock app cuz i have no other choice! And now apple has removed it so i guess i won’t be able to watch youtube videos on my ipad. :’((

    I think the removal of this app will be a catastrophe for most iOS users. I uses the app often but In my subscriptions folder some of the channels werent showing. Such as RaywilliamJohnson and Smosh i had to type in “Smosh” then click on the firrst video then more info then click on the video. Very annoying. The site works well though all except you sometimes bump into the “This video is not supported on mobile devices”, one mostly filtered on the app. I will survive, however, atleast until the new app comes out but the only worry is what i will fill that empty place on my Home Screen with, Angry Birds anyone?

    I would personally miss the stock app because it loads faster and that it has a nicer view for comments and related videos. The best function was the switch from safari to the app. However, at times, the app can be annoying when u just want to use the YouTube mobile site on safari. Overall I like the idea of removing it but I hope apple leaves the function when you open a YouTube video and the YouTube app opens. Would be nice to get a new UI for YouTube too!

    Its a great thing that the stock youtube app is no more. I have been using protube for a long time over the stock youtube app.Some of my main issues and improvements which can be made now that google will have control.
    1:Faster updates , improvements and bug fixes.
    2:Download option.
    3:Sharing via bluetooth or sync with other devices.
    4:Better UI and offcourse layout.
    5:Upto date search results, exactly like what you get on normal youtube.

    There should be the option to turn of other apps that you don’t use… Like the Nike + iPad app.. But as for the you tube app . It’s just one less app in a folder that I don’t use..

    I Used POOF to hide mine and use ProTube to watch all of my videos. Plus, you can download, watch videos offline, and download mp3 versions of the videos straight to your phone! But then again, I have a Jailbroken iPhone 4s!

    I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a new version of the native you tube app. It will probably arrive in a later beta of ios 6 or in a public update to ios 6 after its initial release.

    I use it pretty often only because it is easier than using the YouTube webapp. Also if google makes a YouTube app it better NOT display all of the adds that get displayed on the website. That is one reason why I like the stock YouTube app, THERE ARE NO ADDS!!!!!
