iOS 6 beta 3 will expire on September 30th

By , Jul 17, 2012

Here is a gentle warning for those of you who have downloaded iOS beta 3, which was released yesterday. According to iOS hacker iH8sn0w, this latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system is set to expire on September 30th, 2012.

But what will happen after this date?

If you have not updated to iOS 6 beta 4 or maybe the official release of iOS 6 by then, your iDevice will be temporarily bricked, at least until you update to either the official iOS 6, or a later beta version, whatever will be available at the time.

Bottom line is, make sure to update to iOS 6 beta 4 when/if available, or to the official iOS 6 public release when it’s available if you don’t want to risk being locked out of your device.

It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but you’d have to download the full beta software to your computer and go through the restore process, which is much less convenient than a simple OTA update.

That is quite a long time for the BETA to be activated according to previous BETA releases. The first two didnt even make it out of July and this one is going over a complete month. I know these dates arent to real time events. But it needs looking into at the least.

Just update every beta when it comes out on a Monday, if you do that then you will have no problems. And betas usually come 2-3 weeks apart on a monday

Gold will be released before that date… duh?

Just because it expires on 09/30, that doesn’t mean that this version of the beta will run until then. We’ll be nearly done with beta by then.

we pay a lot of our hard-earned cash and we cant use whatever IOS works best on OUR device? I upgraded to ios6 a couple of days ago and it is simply crap, i cant connect to wifi, device got significantly slower. Good times when Nokia was in the top of the food chain!!!

Same happend to me, I cant do anything. Not even with iTunes. I couldnt even turn of my alarm clock this morning… It rang for 30 minutes before it stopped, and then came another one…

Same. My ipad says not activated and I’ve tried everything.. Many people are having this problem.

      • JayDee917

FIXED! Open iTunes, turn off iPad, plug in iPad into the computer while holding the home button until ‘connect to iTunes’ pops up on screen. Then just do a simple restore. Hopefully you have a recent back up. I didn’t :/

      • Justin Mahone

Correct! (JayDee917) Or you can do DFU Mode

    • airrider3

Yeah, same happened to me… Restore all the way, I think…

For me it went to the setup screen and won’t continue to activation, time to get it into recovery mode I think. Sucks for anyone who didn’t have a backup.

  • airrider3

What the…? I can’t even Restore because it says “There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone “xxx”. The requested resource was not found. I’m going to call the developer support.
