RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 released with the ability to downgrade baseband 06.15

By , Jun 18, 2012

As expected, the Dev Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 tonight. The new version of the jailbreak tool features the highly-anticipated ability to downgrade the baseband on the iPhone 3G(S).

Unlocked 3G(S) users stuck on baseband 06.15 can now downgrade to 05.13.04. This will restore GPS functionality, as well as allow you to use stock IPSWs again. Full details after the break…

From the Dev Team’s release notes:

“The iPhone Dev Team is happy to announce a baseband downgrade option in redsn0w for those who are using the iPad’s o6.15 baseband on the iPhone3G or iPhone 3GS.

Typically you’d have the 06.15 baseband if you unlock with ultrasn0w but updated your iPhone baseband past 05.13.04. With this new capability, you can now downgrade specifically from 06.15 to 05.13.04 (even if you never had 05.13.04 on that device before). This gives you the best of both worlds: ultrasn0w compatibility and a normal iPhone baseband with full GPS and the ability to use stock IPSWs again.

Here are the steps:

1. Use the “Extras=>Select IPSW” button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn’t hurt for them to do it too).

2. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”). This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running!

3. Go back to the first screen and click “Jailbreak”. Enable the “Downgrade from iPad baseband” checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next to proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.

After the ramdisk gets launched and you see the Pwnapple running on your iPhone, you’ll eventually get to the “Flashing Baseband” step. THIS STEP TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to complete and there won’t be any feedback while it’s running. Please just let it be for the next 3-8 minutes! When the ramdisk has done its job it will reboot the phone on its own.

For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is “yes” for 3G owners, and “maybe” for 3GS owners. The iPad is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later. If you have an iPhone 3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone! Be warned!”

There you have it!

If the whole process still sounds a bit intimidating to you, stay tuned, as we will have a step-by-step tutorial up shortly.

For those of you who are ready to get started, as always, you can find the latest version of RedSn0w on our Downloads page.

if i install that basebnad something is gonna change? , i dont use the GPS :/

    • http://twitter.com/ReeceBullet Reece Brown

You’d be able to have an unlocked device, while still using stock firmware to restore with.

      • mr m

for all of use who have bricked your fone there may be some help, go through all the steps for downgrade but after power down click next in redsnow then power back up, go through the procedure and when complete you should have no baseband at all, which means you can now plug into itunes and do a normal restore which will leave your fone as it was when it came out of the box not jailbroke and not unlocked, i found this out my accident when doing a downgrade and the fone would not power down without coming straight back on!!!

  • seyss

And I always thought a BB could never be downgraded..

    • http://www.facebook.com/imcjoy Cjoy Lagumbay

Yes until just now, maybe due to tinyumbrella being about to savve bb tickets. Then play around with that new “wisdom/technology”…. In time the dev team found a way to make the bb downgrade a possibility

“If you have an iPhone 3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15″ I am confused about this. Does it mean that only if I install the 06.15 baseband I can get my phone brick, but not if I have it already and want to downgrade? My 3-5 digits numbers are 950 even though I bought the phone 2 years ago…

    • sdmidnightrider

950 means its from 2009 and week 50 so ur ok cuz its old bootrom, the 134 and up are all new bootrom and u arent supposed to change the baseband on those to anything because they wll brick, ive tried on a couple and theycome back either blinking on and off or look normal but under the about-modem firmware menu the baseband is blank and erased.

  • http://www.facebook.com/imcjoy Cjoy Lagumbay

Will there be a downgrade for any other base band for all A4 idevice? So that we all can benefit from ultra snow?

Like other iphone 3gs that cant do the ipad base band then to 05.13.04

    • rohta

Be careful. This BB downgrade is for 3G or 3GS ONLY!! They are not A4 devices

    • http://twitter.com/oneBurge Burge

You just need a sim from a carrier that surpports the iphone.. Look on eBay .

    • http://www.facebook.com/ottawa.gamerz Ottawa Gamerz

just hackivate it with snow breeze

  • http://twitter.com/amad_ahmed01 Amad

This sounds like alot to do and your phone may get bricked in the process if you don’t fully comply with instructions. I guess theres gone be alot of expensive bricks worldwide.

  • http://twitter.com/elcuino87 Abraham

when i point to the firmware, does it have to be a custom firmware or a custom firmware that i have to run?

  • http://www.facebook.com/cjnicodemus Christopher Nicodemus

ive done the downgrade but still stuck in 6.15 b ;(

  • http://www.facebook.com/cjnicodemus Christopher Nicodemus

still stuck in 6.15 bb :(

  • http://twitter.com/ssollyy Salah Eldin Khaled

done the steps as mentioned. didnt fetch the iOS (they need original one) as i’ve the new bootrom. shutdowned my mobile as instructed. choose jailbreak follow steps to enter DFU choose downgrade baseband uncheck cydia and procced, as mentioned it gonna take sometime while flashing baseband. will rebot afterward and it is downgraded.
my problems with this precedures is i’ve lost some of cydia apps and tweaks, dont know why, some are working and some not, even if all of them is mentioned in packages installed in cydia!
and ultrasnow needed to be reapplied…

    • http://twitter.com/ssollyy Salah Eldin Khaled

unfortuntly reapllying ultrasnow didnt work, so i am stuch with no service!!

      • http://www.facebook.com/mohamed.arbouch Arbouch Mohamed

if you have ios 5.1.1 then try to install ultrasnow 5.1.1 fixer from repo dot parelhos dot com . it should work

      • rohta

This is no longer necessary. The latest version of ultrasn0w (1.2.7) is already compatible with iOS 5.1.x

      • http://twitter.com/AV_LBJ6 Alex

Just reboot and respring.Mine was like that at first but i did that.

    • http://twitter.com/AV_LBJ6 Alex

      • http://twitter.com/ssollyy Salah Eldin Khaled

thanks for sharing the info, will try, but ultrasnow is working with ya now???

      • http://twitter.com/ssollyy Salah Eldin Khaled

okay. everything is working properly now. seems like cydia was there but not effecting the system, thats why ultrasnow didnt wanna work, just reinstall mobile substrate reboot reinstall ultrasnow and everything is working. thanks for all the help info and musclenerd for the long waited downgrade.

      • http://twitter.com/AV_LBJ6 Alex

Yeah ultrasn0w worked even without reinstalling it.The mobile sustrate reinstall just did it all.And your welcome.I am so happy about this long awaited downgrade

      • http://twitter.com/ssollyy Salah Eldin Khaled

yeah, it feel nice to get a good GPS signal after all the time with nothing. but frankly the process is alittle tricky and not smooth…

if my iPhone isn’t sim free do I have to have an original sim to activate after I do this downgrade?

  • Denis Shrestha

Still stuck at 6.15.00. Tried several times. Even factory restored and retried. Doesnt work. Now ultrasnow not unlocking it either. So decided to use Snowbreeze to JB that fixed GPS issues in iPad BB.

    • Somesh

are you able to get network signal. if yes what steps did you follow?

      • Denis Shrestha

I used Snowbreeze to cook the firmware and restored to it. JB and unlocked. BB: 6.15.00 with GPS working.
Steps: Download snowbreeze latest version and iOS 5.1.1 for your phone.
Run Snowbreeze. Follow the instruction on screen. At the beginning snowbreeze will ask you if you need to activate your phone.
Snowbreeze will cook the firmware. Once done its usually in desktop.
Run itunes. Shift Restore pointing to THIS COOKED Firmware.
        Done.
Before you can restore you need to put your phone in Pwned DFU mode by running iReb in Snowbreeze.
Latest Snowbreeze version fixes the GPS issue with iPad BB.
        Hope this works for you.

I have an iPhone 3GS old bootrom, serial 86929xxx, IOS 51.1, jailbreak with sn0wbreeze. I followed all steps to downgrade the 6.15.00 BB with redsn0w, but after DFU, every time after injecting limera1n, redsn0w is giving the message: exploit failed.
    How can I go further?

hello everybody, after downgrade, i check iphone setting/general/about/modem firmware. It says 5.13.04. But when i use other software like itools, tiny umbrella, they say my iphone bb is 6.15. I thought my phone bb doesnt really change afthough iphone says 5.13.04. May be downgrade tools change name 6.15.xx to 5.13.04.

    • brinder grewal

same here and ultrasn0w is not unlocking mu iphone

    • http://twitter.com/JefferyJkc Jeffery

it does show it is 6.15 in tiniumbrella but if you try to restore with stock IPSW the BB can will change to 5.16 which cannot unlock the BB. tI had ried many times.

  • http://twitter.com/CVthegreat Braun Buffel

I managed to downgrade my BB 06.15.00 on my iphone 3GS after several attempts.
    1) You have to have fast internet connection.
    2) After download latest Redsn0w, make sure you restart your PC/Mac.
    3) After restart unplug your USB cable and plug-in to other USB port.
    4) Temporary disable your anti-virus and firewall.
    5) It doesn’t matter whether you idevices are new or old bootroom, just make sure you select IPSW.
I follow above steps for several times and it works for me.

    • brinder grewal

does it show BB 5.13.4 in tiny umbrella or other such tool

  • http://www.facebook.com/maukphyo Phyo Mauk

no. tinyumbrella show my ipad bb is 6.15. but my iphone setting show me 5.13.04. what is right or what is wrong?tiny umbrella or iphone?

  • Steven Fake

I have been trying for two days and this simply won’t change the baseband. I have a 3GS made in 2010. I am unlocked with ultrasn0w and running 5.0.1. I have tried at least 20 times. I used the IPSW from your downloads page. I ran as administrator and ran without choosing an IPSW as well, all without any luck. I have given up hope with this. I do believe there may be a small percentage of 3G/3GS users whose phones may downgrade, but for the vast majority, I believe we’re still out of luck.

    • http://www.facebook.com/sam.dixey Sam Dixey

do you get the pwnapple on your screen?

  • Devon Cooke

tired this 4 times but it didn’t work. Still at ipad BB. I had the signal problem too, but when I turn on airplane mode, and turned it off, it fixed that.

I have tried this on 3 phones (1 3gs, 2 3g’s) and only one of the 3g’s worked. The other 2 stayed on the 6.15 BB and got stuck on ‘searching/no service’. I ended up having to reflash the 6.15 BB, and reinstall ultrasn0w to get them to work.

    Question:
I had a unlocked phone 3GS and then I updated it (bc I didn’t know I shouldn’t). Now I’m locked out of my iphone and it’s upgraded to 5.1.1. The screen says “activation failed, please insert sim card”. I have a tmobile sim card but I don’t have a sim card for the previous carrier to get into the phone.

I know you can do the emergency call, dial 112, cancel, return to call, end call, and it will get me to my home screen but there are multiple things missing since the update including cydia.

What do I do to make my phone work again with tmobile????? Help please
