How to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 with Absinthe 2.0

The iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak is now a reality with the release of Absinthe 2.0, and we’ve got the full tutorial that shows you how to jailbreak your device.

This jailbreak is compatible with most iOS devices capable of running iOS 5.1.1.

Check inside for our full step-by-step walkthrough that shows you how to use Absinthe 2.0 to perform an untethered jailbreak on your device…

Note: If you are currently on iOS 5.1.1 with a tethered jailbreak, simply install Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether instead.

Step 1: Download Absinthe 2.0 from our downloads page.

Step 2: Run Absinthe 2.0.

Step 3: Connect your device to your computer running Absinthe, and ensure that Absinthe detects the exact device that you connect. Make sure your device is turned on and at the Home screen. You do not have to use DFU mode at all.

Step 4: Click Jailbreak, and let the process complete. You will see your iPhone act as if it’s performing a restore, this is normal, be patient.

Step 5: Once complete, you should receive an alert on Absinthe telling you that the jailbreak is complete, and you should see the Cydia app icon on your Home screen. It is now safe to unplug your device.

Step 6: Open Cydia, and it will prepare for first use. Congratulations, your iOS 5.1.1 installed device is now jailbroken with an untethered jailbreak!

That’s all there is to it folks. You can now jailbreak your iPad 3, iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, Apple TV 2, and more, with the new Absinthe 2.0 untethered jailbreak.

    I tried to do the jailbreak on a jailbroken iPhone 4s 5.0.1 but when I went to restore to 5.1.1 (unjailbroken) with iTunes it failed and now my phone is stuck with the connect to iTunes logo. Does anyone know how I can get over this, is my phone bricked? Every time i connect to itunes I get a restore error. Is there any other software I can use to try and install a firmware to get my phone working again? Please help?

    FOR THOSE OF YOU HAVING ISSUES: If you are getting the dreaded jailbreak failed, try again error, then upgrade to Absinthe 2.0.1, which has a bug fix for this.

    I have an iPhone 4 GSM on iOS 5.1.1 (Factory Unlocked) and Absinthe says:
    Sorry, the attached device is unsupported.

    I’ve restored from scratch not a backup. After the restore I even this erase all content and settings.

    Note: if cydia not work in first time. reboot 2 or 3 times..

    So i had an issue with absinthe freezing while rebooting. i quit it and still have cydia on my phone. im curious if cydia is on my phone if i am missing file paths since i never got a your jailbreak is complete message from the program or if i am ok.

    I can’t back up my iphone at ALL!!!! I have tried everything! I am running windows 7 64bit. I tried an older version of itunes, tried to run as admin, tried to run in xp, tried restoring my iphone on the device and on the computer and retried everything again, I’ve deleted all the other backups, rebooted my device and computer and retried it all once again. all it does is start to back up then just does nothing!!! It says it is backing up but its been 3 hours!! There is Nothing on the iphone it’s wiped clean. And I am still trying to jailbreak it but Absinthe 2.0.1 crashes after about 15 min of it running. then says it needs to fix it and try re-jailbreak, still nothing! I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I’m about 10 min away from throwing everything out the window! I have been working on this for the last 14 hours!

    I have jailbroken, all goes through ok, cydia icon is on the ipad, but just closes if i try to open it? i have jailbroken from a clean restore through itunes and jailbroken without setting up the ipad, any ideas?

    But i am facing a little problem here.
    Absinthe 2.0.1 is not detecting my Ipad2 3G WIFI.
    I always get a message telling me plug in your Idevice to begin.
    But my Ipad is being detected by windows and I can browse it’s files.
    Kindly note that my Ipad was never jailbroken before and I have recently updated from 5.0 to 5.1.1

    Ok, I was having tons of problems with my iPad 2, not the new iPad2,4. I ran it on Windows 7 and XP as a regular user and administrator. I also ran 2.0 and 2.0.1. I FINALLY got it to work with 2.0.1. This is what I did and your jailbreak should only take about 2-4 minutes.

    1) Restore iPad with 5.1.1
    2) Do no load your backup and just leave as new iPad (if loaded backup, then erase everything and go through activation process)
    3) Go through Activation to activate iPad
    4) Run Jailbreak
    5) Restore backup
    6) Enjoy Jailbreak.

    I jailbroke my iPod Touch 4G on 5.1.1 with this. Now, it doesn’t have many native apps like Calendar or Mail and it’s also missing Cydia. When I connect it to my PC and run Absinthe again, it says it is already jailbroken and detects “stash.” I cannot restore it due to different errors each time including error codes: 11 and 1394. What can I do? :O

    Absinthe 2.0.1(Win XP) will run for 5 to 10 minutes up to “Sending initial jailbreak data..” and then I constantly get this error whenever I retry, “Absinthe iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvenience.” This has never happened with my past jailbreaks and I don’t know how to fix it.. I tried restoring but i didn’t want to risk setting up a new iDevice losing my old iDevice’s data.. I also tried running it as an Administrator.. My iDevice is an iPhone 4S iOS 5.1.1.
