How to fix Absinthe Lockdown Error

Even though Absinthe appears to be a very simple and stable jailbreak tool, a few people are still getting some errors despite the 2.0.1 update.

The main errors that pop up seem to be “Error detecting device (lockdown error -5)” and “Could not connect to lockdown“…

We’ve been in contact with @pod2g and @pimskeks, and they confirmed the problem is a random coincidence that creates a timeout. But the fix is fairly easy. All you have to do is go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Content and Settings. Then make sure you download Absinthe 2.0.1 and run it again.

This should fix your problem. If not, or if you’re encountering a different error, please make sure to share with us.

    Stop Crying so much I have jailbreak my iphone 4 my iPad wifi and my iphone 3GS no issue at all just cydia serve was full and couldn’t download any tweaks to fix most of the issue go to updates in cydia and update the one that says need to update and exit cydia go back let it reload and exit again and back and forth let them reload and then restart our iDevice

    For some reason Absinthe 2.0.1 (Mac) Hangs during Jailbreaking. I tried that more that 6 times. Then I tried to do it in another computer and it finally worked.

    For everyone getting the error on the 4S, do the Reset All Content thing first, do a restore as New iPhone in iTunes and then jailbreak away. Worked for me.

      For me it worked with VM Fusion win XP and absinthe 2.02. On Mac OSX 10.6.4 it doesn’t work. Tried many times. Worked like a charm on the PC first time.

    I found the best way to jailbreak the 5.1.1 with Absinthe is to:
    1) Back up iPhone
    2) REDOWNLOAD (Restore in iTunes) 5.1.1 firmware and restore back to factory settings
    3) The run the jailbreak following the instructions.
    4) THEN restore from backup using iTunes.
    So far I had to do that with mine along with two friends and it worked flawlessly.
    The error appeared on all three iPhones. So I am under the assumption that the jailbreak works best when the iPhone is a “factory” state.

      Yeah I tried and failed for about 6hrs of updating, redownloading the ipsw then Absinthe 2.0.1 came out after getting so many errors and crashes. Tried that… nope…

      finally had to do a complete reset, and not enter any info.
      RunAs administator
      BAM!
      10 min later… im jb… sitting in queue for the repos to start chugging again.

    Won’t even bother installing repos and cydia tweaks tonight.. Everything’s jammed.
    Maybe in a couple of days.

      Yeah I have been stuck on sinful’s repo for a good 10 mins.

      First time I have updated my software since 4.3.3. Since mine had everything 5.0.1 had or better. it got to a point I had so much going on in the phone was so slow. Finally gave up the ghost and updated today due to the jailbreak. At least I got in before the 9B208 build came out and wouldn’t of been able to JB.

    Get Error could not connect to lockdownd on iPad 2 CDMA Model MC987LL Carrier Verizon 12.1 iOS 5.1.1 (9B206) Did Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings and tried again, same error. Will try stock FW 5.1.1 Restore and setup as new Device and then try JB again.

    thanks for jailbreak but i have a 3gs factory unlocked , i restored to 5.1.1 and tried absinthe 2.0 and 2.0.1 and it basically get stuck on waiting to reboot my phone dosent do anything during restore and i have tried erase all content and settings still nothing ?? any ideas

    I had this same error and the reset did not fix it. I installed redsn0w then ran Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 untether from the cydia/telesphoreo source. it worked, I retried absinthe multiple times and got annoyed

      perhaps you can try this

      1. back up all your files first;
      2. do a full restore with 5.1.1;
      3. DO NOT RESTORE YOUR BACKUP BEFORE JAILBREAK;
      4. set up absinthe so that it runs in windows xp sp3 compatible mode (btw i used 2.0, not 2.0.1);
      5. run absinthe as Administrator and wait;
      6. during the wait, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR PHONE until the program tells you that it’s done.
      7. set up cydia; and finally,
      8. restore your backup.

      i am on windows 7, and myphone is iphone 4. it worked well.

      I think only the Windows Version works properly. Find a friend with windows and try it! Worked for me but Mac version never worked. Always stopped on Waiting for Reboot.

    unfrountlly i installed it on 3 ipods but when i installing it on iphone 3gs it is not working even after reset all content also still i can’t install it. so please advice as soon as P.

    note: i think ur JB better than other it is so easy to installing not like other but i need ur urgently support to install it on iphone 3gs asap. to protect me from other JB.

    apparently I have totally screwed up my jailbreak and desperately need help. Here’s the path of my stupidity:

    - did a back up of the phone first
    - have an iPhone 4 (NOT S) on AT&T, and it was already jailbroken and working fine on untethered 5.01. been waiting for 5.1.1
    - attempted to run Absinthe 2.0 this morning and it says that the device is already jailbroken. (i’m new to this, i knew i was jailbroken but i thought i still had to run this app if i wanted to go to 5.1.1).
    - when that didn’t work i made the assumption that i just needed to do a firmware update. so i went to the idb download page and downloaded the newest 5.1.1(build 9B208), then i option-clicked the “update” button (not “restore”, i specifically used “update”) and it seemed to install it just fine
    - phone came back up working perfectly except not jailbroken (or at least there’s no cydia or any of my jailbroken apps)
    - tried to run Absinthe 2.0 again but now says the device is not supported anymore
    - tried to run Absinthe 2.01 and same error
    - put it in dfu mode and tried redsn0w, starts the process of jail breaking but fails half way through. phone resets and it’s back to the main screen and works fine but not jail broken.

    what did i do? what can i do to get myself jailbroken again?

    please help!

      Sorry to tell you, you are stuck on 5.1.1 build 9B208 as Absinthe till date only support 9B206.
      I’d suggest googling “how to downgrade” ASAP to go back to the pervious supported build. Then PLEASE READ CAREFULLY all the blogs out there before attempting a Jailbreak.

        thanks for the info. ok so it looks like i can’t downgrade, i didn’t’ save the ssh blobs before upgrading. so i guess i just have to wait eh?

    deffinetly waiting for a new redsnow tool before leaving 5.0.1 holy shit the issues people seem to be having are not worth the benefits of upgrading (unless you have a 4s or new ipad)

    Ipad 3 new, not jailbroken yet, even after reset of settings the device is not recogised by Absinthe.
    Is it, looking at all comments better to wait for a better jailbreak?

    I get this Error: “usbmuxd_send: Error -1 when sending: Broken pipe”
    Also Absinthe says “Your iphone will look like its restoring” but mine doesn’t and now its stuck at “Waiting for reboot”

    like to know if there is going to be an update for the jailbreak?
    Ipad 3 new, first jailbreak, ios 5.1.1 Absinthe 2.01. did reset as adviced by @pod2g, when i start Absinthe there is no identification of my Ipad 3 WIFI by Absinthe and i can therefore not push the jailbreak button.
    Plse some advice, am i doing something wrong or is there another issue?

    I’ve made the experience that for the lockdown issue it suffices to reset the network settings, no need to kill all data.

    My iPad 2 32gb+3G keeps hanging on wanting for reboot and after that, if I close and reopen absinthe it gives the lockdown error, I’ve already done everything you’ve said on this post, I’ve tried more then 10 times, erased all content at least half a dozen times, restore 2 times IOS from scratch and still nothing… :S tried on OSX and on Windows 7. This thing is so strange that on windows my iPad isn’t charging anymore… :S

      Yeah, same on my 4S and iPad 2. I finally just downgraded the 4S and used the Absinthe 1 to jailbreak… wish I had never tried to upgrade, but the first Absinthe worked so flawlessly that I felt confident my 4S should be upgraded…. but, now that I downgraded, I’ll keep trying the newer and newer released with the iPad 2 first.

        I ended up managing to get the new jailbreak to work–but I had to use another computer; but it was running on the same operating system, same settings, etc. I tried again on my computer, no luck. But, got 5.1.1 absinthe 2.0.4 working on both devices now. :D

    I found a fix for the music play back problem. Turn off iCloud in your settings, Then follow these steps…..

    1. Settings
    2. General
    3. Usage
    4. Under Storage Tap Music
    5. Tap Edit
    6. Tap The Red Minus Button And Delete
    7. Go Back Into Settings, Music, And Turn iCloud Music Back On And Download

    All my music works now

    im glad a JB is out, but i should have really waited..i was jailbroken on 25/05/12, and now im stuck with a unjailbroken iphone, 1st time iv used absinthe, i dont think im a fan, i guess i will have to wait for red snow, i have tried everything suggested on this page, i only have myself to blame, i should have waited!!

    This is hardly a “random coincidence”. I tried on two different 3Gs phones using two different computers and was never able to get past this error. A couple of times absinthe crashed and stopped running. One PC was running Windows XP sp3 32 bit and the other was Windows 7 64 bit. And yes it was ran as administrator every time.

    this is the worst jailbrak ever, every time you jailbrake something else goes wrong, cydia dont work right with this jailbrake, and i lost sound on my ipad tell Pod2G that he disapointed this time.

    I can’t get this to work on my iPod 4G and my iPad2….. My iPad 2 is the version 2 so I figured that but the iPod 4G should’ve worked but they both say “Lockdown error, or error code 5″
