Pod2g now running iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on new iPad

Pod2g has just made another big announcement regarding his progress on the iOS 5.1 jailbreak. A few moments ago, the hacker tweeted that he had jailbroken [untethered] a third-generation iPad running iOS 5.1.

The news comes just one week after we received word that pod2g’s iPhone 4 had received the untethered jailbreak treatment on iOS 5.1, as the iOS expert seems to really be hitting his stride…

“Hey. iPad 3,1 running iOS 5.1 untethered. Next on the list: stabilizing the payload, then trying 5.1.1.”

The weekly updates are reminiscent of the weeks leading up to the original iOS 5 jailbreak that came late last year, so hopefully it won’t be too much longer. If nothing else, it’s a good sign that things seem to be going smoothly.

      I totally agree. The first day it was released three hackers show pics and videos of jailbroken devices. Its been over a month and no jailbreak yet. Is anyone else at the point were you wold rather pay for the software to be jailbroken? If it would mean more faster release dates and more competitive design i would be all for it.

        You don’t understand a basic Thing… All Jailbreaks on the first day were Developer Account Hacks (except i0n1c’s) which can not be distributed. And think back in 2011… We saw comex showing Images of a Jailbroken Device very early but it took months until the release (which was better for me just btw..)

        Ok Rudy, I don’t think u get my real point here. I understand you are a developer and you might know the difference between a Developer hack and a distributable hack. All the masses see is hackers with Jailbroken devices. So we think ok a month from now we might see a jailbreak. I have owned every device able to be Jailbroken since the first generation Iphone. At the rate of speed that they are being released now which is a little slower now. I personally would be willing to pay 25 to 40 dollars for a jailbreak per software update. If it would pay a organization or person to make this there full time job.

        Actually the battery isn’t better on 5.1.
        Tried a fresh 5.0.1 4s and a 5.1 4s. No diffrence in terms of battery.
        It’s a placebo effect.

        I live in switzerland an today I got a message from my provider (sunrise) saying in the ios 5.1.1 update the connection is better. So yeah I am excited too! Oh i have a 4Sbtw..

      There isn’t really anything different in iOS 5.1.1 than iOS 5.0.1 other than the ability to delete photos from photo stream, oh and the new camera on the lock screen but you can get that ability on 5.0.1 with the camera grabber tweak.

        With 5.1 I could install iPhoto, and I’d stop getting annoying badges telling my that I should update the iWorks apps (which I can’t)

    I can’t wait until the 5.1/5.1.1 jailbreak, my iPhone 4 messed up on 5.0.1 so I had to jailbreak, my iPad 2 was upgraded to 5.1 thinking it could be downgraded and my iPhone 4s is slowing down so I can’t wait until I can update and rejailbreak

    I am currently running IOS 5.1.1, I am wondering if I should downgrade to 5.0.1 or 5.1
    Any help? I have already jailbroken before so I have both SHSH’s

      Simple answer it isn’t possible to downgrade at the moment so u gotta wait anywas intil the new redsnow comes..

      Depends on two things.

      1. If you have a iOS 5 iDevice earlier than iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and;
      2. If you have relevant APTicket saved as well as the relevant SHSH blobs (with iFaith or new TinyUmbrella).

      If you have these two things, you can easily downgrade to the firmware version in question, iOS 5 or not.

    Just teasing us at this point. Don’t post pictures of an untethered jailbreak on 5.1 if you are just going to move on to jailbreaking 5.1.1 and not even released a jailbreak to the public for 5.1 LOL. Still grateful for all of your hard work though. Congratulations.
