BitTorrent users rejoice. iTransmission, the popular iOS BitTorrent client, has finally been updated to support the latest versions of Apple’s mobile software.

The jailbreak utility, which was abandoned by developer Mike Chen sometime last year, has just been resurrected by ioshomebrew as iTransmission 2…

Like the previous version, iTransmission 2 is extremely easy to use. Once installed, simply navigate to any BitTorrent file in Safari (or other browser) and select the option to open it via the utility. Depending on seeders, your download should start right away.

The app has a hidden preference panel, which can be accessed by swiping left to right from the edge of the screen. It offers a number of customizable options, including a port-picker and a download restrictor.

With its simple user interface and $0 price tag, we can’t think of a reason not to try this out. iTransmission 2 is available in Cydia, in the ModMyi repo, for free.

Have you tried out iTransmission 2 yet?

no magnets? if negative, the galaxy’s largest torrent site wont work for most torrents

  • it requires winterboard 🙁

  • Not downloading it because winterboard on iOS 5+ is horrible. Just makes everything lag badly

    • how so ?

    • Ronald Weaver

I stopped using winterboard a while ago to. I never looked back 🙂

      • Good news winterboard has been updated today (finally) 0 lag 🙂

Can’t cydia tweaks/apps developers use the standard Apple SDK to create these kinds of apps for Cydia?

  • Luis Finke

why in the world does it need winterboard…?

    • Anonymous

      Cosmetic matters, I assume.

      • Luis Finke

im just gonna download the deb and unload it without winterboard then. Theres no way a bittorrent app NEEDS winterboard just to function

      • Did this work? A link to the deb and a how to would be appreciated

      • I doubt that’ll work
I tried it for some other tweak
Irrespective of whether it uses winterboard
It will throw you an error saying that a dependency is missing or something like that…..

    • Kok Hean

ModMyi’s repackager accidentally installed the WinterBoard dependency.

Death Grips? Good call. That new album is insane.

  • can somebody please explain how to use it 🙁

  • I’m going to try this tweak asap. I tried some other tweak named dtunes, but it was hard to use. Thanks much.

Say whaaaat? I’ve used iOS for 3 years and never knew there was a BitTorrent client for iOS.

Oh well, now I gotz uTorrent for my Galaxy 😛

I was excited for 2 minutes until I saw the first comment regarding winterboard.

    Won’t even bother. 🙁

  • Legal purposes. That way, they can’t store .torrent files, so it would be extremely hard for the court or anyone to try and takedown the website.

    • Kok Hean

They still do. I get portable apps from there using torrent files. You can get them by changing the URL.

  • I tried using it, but crashes a lot no matter what ever I am doing. No specific action which triggers the crash.

  • Transmission by Filipe Pina seems better. it is webui using localhost and it handles magnet links beautifully. also, you can put device to sleep and it keeps downloading. even when your in a different app. its amazing and it has a bunch of options.

for those that use mobile terminal, package is cc.fopina.transmission

  • What torrents do you guys actually download on the iPhone? I can’t figure out what I would need to download on a mobile device that would make it actually worthwhile

  • Ahmed najim

Guys i just downloaded it and everytime i try to download a torrent it gives me the (invalid torrent file) message….any solutions??

HAs anyone noticed that iT3 seems to keep downloading even on 3G connection despite it being disabled in prefs? You can even see it in it’s own counters and when it runs in background it has drained my 3g plan a number of times. How do we stop this or get the bug fixed?
