BGR passes along a report from DigiTimes this morning which claims that Apple is planning to launch a new iPhone later this year equipped with LTE technology. You don’t say?

Well, considering that Apple has released a new iPhone every year for the past 5 years, it’s safe to assume that we’ll see another one in 2012. And given the fact that the company’s latest tablet contains LTE, it’s not hard to fathom that its next handset will too…

While we consider this to be more of a common sense thing than a rumor, we do expect a lot of gossip this year regarding the upcoming iPhone. A lot of folks are anticipating this model to employ the redesign and features that were expected in last year’s iPhone including a 4-inch display and yes, an LTE radio.

Apple sold more than 37 million handsets last fall after announcing the iPhone 4S. So in order to improve on that this year, it’s going to have to step up its game. And that’s what makes this next iPhone so interesting. Will we finally see the thinner, larger-screened handset that fits in all of those cases we saw surface last year?

What do you think?

  • plz dont hype this model

yep.. with LTE.. the phone can never dream of going thin..if not thicker

see what happened to ipad 3

Plz stop the rumors! We’ll just wait and see what comes!

ya man stop the hype and rummors. because there is a 50/50 chance its wrong..

      You don’t say?

  • I think its obvious, be more of a shocker if they didn’t release a phone this year.

  • Please DON’T start this crap again. All it did was p!ss us off when Apple screwed us last time there was a new iPhone launch. No. More. BS. RUMORS! We’re still sore from the 4S screwing we got in October.

  • i hate when media spreads rumors…. NO OFFENCE to iDB.

well i think its becoming more of a ritual for apple to launch 1 iPad and 1 iPhone every year!

  • You can bet your house on the next iPhone having LTE

  • i agree. this rumor shit is annoying….. everybody knows the next iphone will have LTE…

  • I am going to hold on to my iPhone 4 until the iPhone 5S. It has all the functionality I need to live a productive lifestyle. Since it isn’t a tablet I use my computer for anything that needs real processing power. I’ll wait for their 2nd generation LTE phone as I feel Apple’s products are always better in their second iteration.

    • 2nd? i say 3rd and more to have a “finished product”….look at iphone…2g, 3g, 3gs, 4, 4s…in my opinion, ip4 is a “finished, polished” product….earlier are crappy…

  • I know what my next work phone will be!!

  • I think it might also have a Retina display. It also might have an A5X chip. It might also have at least a 5 MP iSight camera. But that’s all conjecture.

  • I thought you guys had already mentioned this before? You guys also said that the new chip will support T-mobile’s 3G network? Or did I read that somewhere else? -.-

  • If it has LTE, I just hope the battery life is just as awesome as the iPhone 4, because the 4S was an upgrade, and look at the battery life there. I hope Apple can adjust the battery to make it 3 times better than the 4, even though LTE will kill it faster. But if they manage to do great on the iPad 3, so could the iPhone 5, right?

  • I agree with Brian. 2nd Generation Iphone 5 will be better! Right now, many Androids are kicking Apples butt and the public see’s it. We don’t need rumor’s but its inevitable that Apple will hurry with something to pacify us this fall. They need to do better than 4 and 4s and LTE is not what I am talking about. We need “Best”!!

  • my best guess…..erm…..makes sense for them to have a thinner ( but my best guess is slightly thicker due to larger battery ), and a slightly bigger screen….further improvements to its camera….the rest stays petty much same…

  • Good point. More common sense than rumor. But yea, it’ll have it. I also DO think it’ll be that aluminum back plate, like you have there in the picture. The glass was cool, but aluminum is cool too!
