Tomorrow’s event won’t be exclusively about the iPad 3, as 9to5Mac confirms what we’ve heard before about an Apple TV refresh:

We’ve gotten a few more tidbits about tomorrow’s Apple TV announcement (Oh, there will be a new iPad too!). The Apple TV J33 model, MD199LL/A – J33 BEST -USA, which we’ve covered before will come in at the same $99 price point (and similar prices globally). We know from previous reports that it will have updated hardware internally including Bluetooth 4.0 Broadcom chip as well as a higher powered processor capable of 1080P video.

This is definitely not a surprise. As a matter of fact, we dedicated a whole section of our predictions for tomorrow’s event about the Apple TV.

9to5Mac also mentions a mystery accessory that would be available for $39. It likely is a dock, cable, or maybe a new remote. All those questions will be answered tomorrow, so make sure to tune in to iDB for the full coverage.

  • I think the question everyone wants to know is, will we be able to stream live?

    • That would be a huge game changer. That way apple woundn’t have produce a tv set for awhile.

I know Apple has been in talks with TV execs but keeping something like streaming live so quiet would be super impressive

  • it can actually if u have xbmc installed

    • Jailbreak would be awesome right away. I bet Apple definitely has something planned for using an iPhone or iPad for more than just airplay

  • the most important thing that its gonna be able to process 1080p videos

  • Maybe the real question will be, will it be jailbreaked? Since then, there are no limits for possibilities

The iPhone 4S was jailbroken three months after its release. The jailbreak development could have been sped up since it carries the same A5 chip as the iPad 2, which hackers were already working on how to stabilize the unreleased jailbreak. For someone like me, who is born and raised in China, I know a lot of people who buys their new devices after a jailbreak is released. I think it should be the same for North America and other parts of the world. They spent countless amount of money on tweaks which were specially developed for the new device, like MyAssistant, which works very well with Siri, even though our pronunciations may be hard for Siri to capture. But you know what I mean? Currently, all iDevices running iOS can be jailbroken untethered, and that is quite a feat, since the protection in iOS firmwares is really strong. Therefore, like you said, there are no limits for possibilities.

  • Yes! This is a do-all little box when jailbroken. I just hope that firecore can jailbreak it within a few days. Will it have the new processor going into the ipad 3/HD or the one in our ipad 2/ iphone 4S I wonder?

  • Also with bluetooth 4.0 rumored, I see this being able to do some sort of gaming like the ps3 or xbox, with the $39 rumored new device being a controller if you are someone without a iphone or ipod.

    • if you don’t have an iphone or ipod you wont be streaming any games 🙂

but i do hope its a game controller where the iphone/ipad sits to the side streaming and giving statistics or a map while the controller is used for tactile feed back so there’s no need to look down.

can more than 1 bluetooth device be connected to the apple TV?

As a owner of a AppleTV 2 I am so underwhelmed by this new AppleTv (even thiugh it’s not out yet) that I actually went out and bought a RoKu yesterday. That’s right…..the day before the announcement. There is no way Apple will match it. They will keep it tightly closed. They’ll give 1080 like EVERYBODY else maybe USB like RoKu xs like everybody else and maybe a few other little tidbits that won’t really matter. Im sure it will feel better made than the RoKu! As far as live streaming is concerned that would be nice but seems like that would eat into their supposed iTv market. And could they do that for $99? Regardless there is no way… way they will offer the channel selection that RoKu does. They just won’t. That’s Apple.

Of course I could be wrong but I don’t think so. In that case I’ll have to take my RoKu back. 😉

  • That would make sense.. “Something you need to see” AND “Touch”. The see is the Apple TV, the touch is the iPad.
