Are you enjoying your newly jailbroken devices as much as we are? If so, you may want to make sure that you have saved your iOS 5.0.1 SHSH blobs. If not, you could risk losing the ability to jailbreak in the future.

It’s been over a month since Apple released iOS 5.1 beta 3, so it wouldn’t surprise us to see a public release sometime in the near future. And from what we’ve heard, the new software will patch the Corona exploit

TinyUmbrella developer, notcom, just posted this brief message on his blog:

“With the quiet time between jailbreak and iOS version, make sure you get your SHSHs saved. I’ve been working on the TinyUmbrella rewrite (albeit sparingly due to real life demands). It’s important to make sure you have your 5.0.1 SHSHs tucked away safe. There is no guarantee that we’ll have things this good again.”

Although Cydia can store your SHSH blobs, we recommend using a utility like iFaith or TinyUmbrella as well. If you’re not sure how to use these applications, we have step-by-step tutorials and other resources on our Downgrade page.

Any questions?

  • doesn’t cydia save ours automatically ?

Yes it does… This article just scares the misinformed ppl.

Anyways you even forgot to mention that SHSHs are worthless ATM since u cant use them on A5 devices… Great article huh

      • Why are you such a hater?

We’re not here to scare anyone. We’re here to remind people to do something important.

And yes, saving your iPhone 4S SHSH blobs won’t do any good right now, but it might be handy in the future.

Sorry man I love your blog it’s just that sometimes the articles keep people confused. Gotta be through cuz not all of us are CydiaJB experts

      • So from now you can stop saving the “useless” SHSH blobs =)

      • You wont be saying they’re useless if you’re forced to restore when apple stop signing 5.0.1!

The irony is there isn’t much of a hurry to develop an iOS 5 SHSH stitching tool while apple continue to sign an exploited FW. However, you know what they say, necessity is the mother of invention!

  • doesn’t cydia save ours automatically ?

  • What about iPhone 4S SHSH stitching? Has redsn0w still not been updated to support this on the 4S since Absinthe? is there any other way?

Just to clarify .. can you save your SHSH blobs on iPhone4S? When I last went to use I think it was iFaith the guide said iPhone4S not supported.

    • Yes you can

      • Dan

any suggestion on how to save the blobs for iPad 2? iFaith says that my device is not supported and tiny umbrella does not detect any of my devices.

      • The only known to me before Absinthe jb is tiny umbrella for ipad 2. Are you jailbroken? Cydia will save it automatically. If not try opening TU in administrative mode and remember to uncheck the options that connect to cydia server

        Try iSSHSHit.

Does iFaith count? I extracted the blobs out of my 5.0.1 iPhone 4 and even made a CFW with it.

    • Yes. Any SHSH tools are counted (iFaith, Redsn0w, TinyUmbrella, etc). It’s always good to save your SHSH Blobs.

  • i tried to use ifaith to save my shsh. im on iphone 4s but the thing said my device is not supported. 🙁 i also downloaded tinyumbrella but my device wont show up.. wtf?

    • TinyUmbrella should see you device, i found the best way to fix connectivity issues is to reinstall iTunes including Apple Mobile Device Support!

they always tell us to save our shah blobs. i get it when your on iOS 4xx, but what good is it on iOS 5? Ive yet to see a JB that needed shah blobs

    • Tom

It’s less about the actual jailbreak. It’s more to do with being able to install iOS 5.0.1on your phone after Apple stops signing the packages for it. If you don’t have your 5.0.1 blobs saved, you will have to install iOS 5.1. It might take the devs 6 months to find an exploit for 5.1.

      • sn0wbaLL

this i know, but as already stated its worthless on a5 devices

  • We need a toll to block apple from update jailbreak devices.

already saved and stiched, thanks to jeff!!!

I tried using iFaith to save my iPhone 3GS SHSH blobs…on iOS 5.0.1 but it says “the device has 24 kpwn applied to it”. Can anyone please help me with that.

    • Its an old boot rom that’s why. You have a permanent hardware exploit.

  • I havnt save my shsh and i even dont know what is it is there any way that i can jailbreak my 4s 5.1if not when its expected to be available?
