It’s been quite the busy morning for the folks out in Cupertino. During its education event, Apple released a handful of new applications including iBooks 2, iBooks Author, and iTunes U. But it didn’t stop there.

Apple has also released an update to its iTunes software today, bringing the music-syncing program to version 10.5.3…

“iTunes 10.5.3 allows you to sync interactive iBooks textbooks to your iPad. These Multi-Touch textbooks are available for purchase from the iTunes Store on your Mac or from the iBookstore included with iBooks 2 on your iPad.”

It doesn’t look like you need to update to 10.5.3 if you don’t plan on using iBooks — there doesn’t appear to be any new features in the software other than textbook syncing. Nevertheless, you can download the new iTunes from Apple’s website.

I haven’t had any problem with it. As a matter of fact, I haven’t found the first iTunes with problems with a jailbroken iDevice.

  • hmm i wonder ?

  • I’ve updated my iTunes to 10.5.3 and when I connected my currently serviced with att untethered jbroken iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1 to iTunes, it says “This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started.” What is this? My iPhone is working fine with making phone calls and texing… Any ideas?

    • Never mind, I simply restarted my pc and it works now! What an idiot! lol

      • For some reason, we need to reboot first just to figure out what went wrong. Sometimes those services stops from running although it should keep running.. that’s the nature of PC.

  • This could be the first step before they release iOS 5.1 Firmware…
    No jailbreak yet for 5.1…

  • In fact, it doesn’t seem you need to update even if you do want to sync Apple textbooks. Worked perfectly in 10.5.1 for me.
