pod2g Reveals More Details About Upcoming iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak

With every passing day, the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 inches closer. To hold us over, pod2g has been great about releasing updates and details revolving around his progress.

His latest blog post answers questions that have undoubtedly been on the minds of many who are highly anticipating the jailbreak. For starters, how and why does he have a jailbreak, yet the dev teams have yet to release it to the public?

The exploit I used to inject the untethering files to the 4S relies on having a developer account, and can’t be released publicly.

It’s the same reason why @MuscleNerd has an iPad 2 tethered jailbreak but couldn’t distribute it.

So, we need to find a distributable exploit to remount the system partition read/write and to set Corona files at the correct places.

      You’re ok on 5.0.1 (ipad2) from what I understand.

      Maybe just me but after reading the last few posts re a5 jailbreak it doesn’t seem likely for release next week, it’s not even viable yet to release. Hope I am wrong ;-)

    I’m confused…. Didn’t he say yesterday the 4s jailbreak was going to be released within a week? This sounds like it will be much much longer than a week….

      He said with luck it /could/ come out within a week. This isn’t really what you call luck so that’s why he said that before.

    It’s not sounding good for the a5. Comex did a good job at closing the holes. We need geohot to come out of nowhere with a bootroom exploit.

    I’m sticking on 4.3.3 no matter what because i’ve tried the untethered and tethered for iOS 5 and both were buggy as shit tbh. Losing memory for no reason, random reboots which of course was annoying as hell when tethered, respringing into safe mode when trying to free up memory in sbsettings and that was more than enough to make me scrap it, it just isn’t reliable and there are no issues at all with 4.3.3.

    I’m referring to my iPhone 4 btw, i’m not claiming to have already been jailbroke on the 4S lol.

      my tethered 5.0.1 jailbreak has been great, did you use corona? I did a full restore then jailbreak with redsnow, no problems at all.

        I have Sn0wbreeze with semi tether build-into IPWS.
        Install Corona over, working fine. But,it delected iBook.
        After I install iBookfix2, iPhone 4 locks at Apple logo.
        Atfer I rerun iBooty & Redsn0w. iPhone need to connect to PC only to get completely boot. (no need to click anything)
        And dictionaries & Skype don’t work.

        It’s worst than Semitether I had.

        iBookfix2? That’s from an untrusted/pirated source, so that’s most likely why your iPhone was stuck at the boot logo.

        Also, to get Skype and other things like that to work, install “Xcon” from Cydia.

    Just be patient everyone. He did say ” with some luck” it would be released next week. That was not a for sure release date. I’m as anxious as anyone else in here, but these guys do hard work for us, all we should do is at least show our support.

      Yes hurry, do It now, because apple will soon come out with a new update to patch that exploit and then u won’t be able to get 5.0.1
