Picks of the Week: Activity Monitor Touch, Modern Combat 3, Katamari

It’s time for our app picks of the week! We frequently comb the far reaches of the App Store to bring you awesome apps for your downloading pleasure.

This week, we’ve got a cool app for monitoring your iPhone’s system resources, and two particularly fun games for the iPhone and iPad. We hope you enjoy this week’s picks!

Activity Monitor Touch

Activity Monitor Touch on the iPhone closely monitors your system resources and gives you detailed information about your usage. The app is divided into four sections: Battery Status, Usage Monitoring, Device Information, and Process Monitoring.

The app has an overview page with helpful info, like your UDID, capacity, free memory, battery power, and network state. Your iOS system memory can be monitored in terms of free space and realtime CPU activity. Like the Settings app, AMT also gives you detailed usage stats for your iDevice’s battery. This information can be helpful for determining how and why your battery life is draining rapidly, whether it be too much game time or web surfing. The active process list is also helpful for finding out how app is sucking the life out of your precious smartphone.

While all of AMT’s stats are estimations and not exact facts, an app like this is bound to help you get a handle on your iDevice usage. The app’s design is pleasant on the eyes, and AMT for iOS packs just enough features to make it worth your while.

Activity Monitor Touch for iOS in the App Store for a limited price of $1.99.

Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation

The popular first-person shooter title Modern Combat returns to the iOS platform with a new story. The game takes you on a 13-mission campaign from Los Angeles to Pakistan with all kinds of gameplay and scenario cut scenes.

The level of detail in the latest Modern Combat title is stunning, and it’s super fun to go on different missions, whether it be a helicopter or 4×4 chase. Improved SPX and voice acting help make a more immersive gaming experience with plenty of guns and modes to play. The game’s multiplayer mode supports up to 12 players at once, so this is a great title to play with your friends on the iPhone or iPad.

Download Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation in the App Store for $6.99.

Katamari Amore

Fans of the Katamari game on the Sony Playstation console will be happy to know that the title is also available in the App Store. Namco has launched a follow-up game to the original Katamari called Katamari Amore. With new environments that are exclusive to iOS, you can roll around as the Prince in the game’s four modes: Story, Time Attack, Exact Size Challenge, and Eternal.

Katamari probably works best with the iPhone and iPad’s natural tilt and touch controls, but there’s also an optional D-pad if you prefer that method of gameplay.

While Katamari Amore is free in the App Store, you can only play Time Attack mode in the “John’s Room” environment. To unlock more environments, you’ll need to buy the “Have a Nice Trip” in-app purchase for $3.99.
