A couple hours ago, we reported that Apple was acknowledging problems with battery usage in iOS 5, leading the company to release iOS 5.0.1 beta to developers.

If you are a developer who downloaded and installed the new beta release, you must know that this beta version will eventually expire, rendering your device useless if you haven’t updated to a newer firmware version…

iOS hacker iH8Sn0w confirmed today on Twitter that iOS 5.0.1 beta will expire on December 14th, at 8pm EST. This leaves you more than enough time to update to the official iOS 5.0.1 release once it comes out.

  • i bet the new patch is not mainly on the battery issue, rather on the echo voice on phone chat, maybe some but not all.

When is the ‘IOS 5 IPAD 2 UNTETHERED JAILBREAK IS OUT!’ post coming up? ^_^

They will not release a jailbreak till this update comes out so they can not patch it in this update not for the iPad one or two or any iPhone.

So did the switch to disqus delete all previous comments?

    • No, it’s just importing them into the system, which should take a while. Comments will be back 🙂

I updated my 4S to 5.0.1 beta. Works fine for the past hour or so… It’s on charge and I’m not entirely sure, but it seems like even charging is a little bit faster. I didn’t think I had an issue with the battery, but who knows.. I’ll know tomorrow.

  • Well let’s just hope an unteathered jailbreak is released before then for iOS 5.0

    • ali

They would just patch so why would u hope that

  • Oh snap! This could be my first Over The Air update : ) hope it doesn’t patch my jailbreak. Semi-tether is one hell of tweak.

You can’t update OTA if you’re jailbroken.

  • thank goddd! I’ve wondering wtf was wrong with my phone and why it would last as long. I’ve almost bought a new battery to swap it out.
