This Tip Could Cure Your iPhone 4S Battery

by Oliver Haslam on Oct 27, 2011

As someone who has been lucky enough to spend the last few months testing iOS 5 in various beta stages, it has to be said that the version we’re all currently enjoying has come a long way since the early days.

When Apple released the iOS 5 GM not that long ago, I instantly noticed that my iPhone 4′s battery life was lasting roughly half of what it was before. A coincidence, I thought. It’ll sort itself out, I presumed. After getting the iPhone 4S, the problem persisted. Twitter and forums on the web over lit up with similar problems, and a few fixes were suggested, mostly to no avail.

There may be light at the end of the tunnel. Switching one little toggle in iOS 5′s Settings app may hold the key to curing your iPhone 4S battery… Read More

Steve is Watching Over Us

by Sebastien on Oct 27, 2011

I don’t know if Steve is literally watching over all of us, but I know that he’s watching over me.

The above picture was taken in my office. The portrait of Steve is actually behind me when I am sitting at my desk, making sure that I do a good job and don’t talk too much smack about the company he created.

I tweeted this picture yesterday and a lot of my followers thought it was pretty cool, so I figured I’d share it with you all. Some of you may appreciate it, some of you may find it creepy. To each his own, right? Read More

Newsstand in iOS 5 Causes Huge Spike in Subscriptions for Publishers

by Oliver Haslam on Oct 27, 2011

Apple has already revolutionised the way the music industry works with iTunes, and arguably changed the way mobile phone companies work forever. They set about doing the same thing with publishing when the original iPad was released in early 2010, but things haven’t really taken off. One of Apple’s latest additions in iOS 5 may have just changed all that, according to reports.

While magazine and newspaper publishers have put out their own apps in a bid to claw new life out of their ageing model, the take-up amongst customers has been hit and miss (with more misses than hits).

Apple’s latest addition to its content arsenal is Newsstand, a “custom news stand for all your subscriptions” which, the company hopes, will provide increased exposure for magazine and newspaper subscriptions. If Condé Nast’s recent figures are believed, Apple might just have cracked it… Read More

Manufacturers Struggle to Make the iPad 3′s High Resolution Display

by Cody on Oct 27, 2011

The iPad 2 was a fairly big upgrade from its predecessor. It’s twice as fast, includes a front and back camera, and is more portable than the original. For some reason, however, Apple neglected to change the tablet’s screen resolution. It stayed a dismal 1024 x 768.

But according to CNET, that won’t happen again. The site is reporting that Apple is ordering up the most pixel-packed display we’ve ever seen on a 10-inch tablet. The screens are so ridiculous in fact, that manufacturers are struggling to mass produce them… Read More

What Android Handsets Looked Like Before and After the iPhone

by Cody on Oct 27, 2011

The ongoing Apple versus Google war can be traced back to Google’s entry into the smartphone market. Apple launched its iPhone in the Summer of 2007, and within two years Google answered back by releasing its mobile OS, Android.

This led to a series of events, and eventually an onslaught of litigation between the two companies over “copycatting.” The jury is still out on who copied who, but Daring Fireball points to some evidence that seemingly falls in Apple’s favor… Read More

Apple Wiping iTunes Match Libraries, Public Release Imminent?

by Cody on Oct 27, 2011

During its “Let’s Talk iPhone” event earlier this month, Apple announced that its highly anticipated iTunes Match service would launch by the end of October. And seeing as how it’s October 27th, we can’t be too far away from a public release.

Apple is certainly moving the pieces into place. Last week we reported that an iTunes Match toggle popped up in the iOS Settings application, and last night developers received an email stating that their Match libraries would be reset today… Read More
