How to Jailbreak iOS 5 Final With RedSn0w [Video]

iOS 5 is finally available to the public, and fortunately, it can be jailbroken with only a few simple steps.

As of now, this is a tethered jailbreak, which means you must perform a tethered boot when rebooting your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad 1.

      Did you update you iphone 4 already? i have the same issue i use turbo sim and i don’t know if ultrasn0w will unlock my carrier, please keep me update with your iphone update to ios5 jailbreaked

        If your baseband is supported, ultrasn0w will unlock it. Update to iOS5 through a custom IPSW with for instance PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze.

    I had a problem with just updating to iOS 5… I tried updating my iPod Touch 4G and it told me it wasn’t eligible to upgrade. So I tried the restore and upgrade option, and that didn’t work either. I restarted my computer and tried again, but still no cigar. I finally went to my iPod’s settings and made it restore all data and settings, and it’s doing that now… I hope it’s able to work… :-/ I wonder if iTunes detected my jailbroken iPod…?

      Use itunes to backup ur apps and pkgbackup to backup ur tweaks. When u upgrade a jailbroken phone to a higher ios, it wld need u to restore (factory swttings

      Not recommended that u restore ur tweaks from pkgbackup after upgrading to ios 5, cos some tweaks won’t be compatible, which may cause ur phone crash. Best is to install ur tweak one by one after the jailbreak.

    I had a 3200 error and just tried again and it worked just fine. Having a play with it now and all seems good. I love the drop down notifications. But miss my jailbreak

        no cydia or nothing i dont no how i did it but i redid it and i got all my jailbreaks back and went back to 4.3.3

    Quick question guys, when you DL something from cydia sometimes it reboots your phone or resprings it, will this cause you to lose the jailbreak? How do you circumvent it? I’m still on the 4.2.6 (vzw) jailbreak using green poison.

      It won’t “lose” your jailbreak. The bad news is, to turn your phone back on, you’ll have to plug it into a computer and redo the last part in the above video. Preventing it is easy: don’t jailbreak iOS5 until there is an untethered one available.

    I got my iPhone4 4.3.3 Baseband 4.10.01, if i update by itunes, change my baseband? I try with redsnow and i got the itunes logo screen ( i try several times) now, i cant restore by itunes…

    I jailbroken my iphone 4 on IOS 5. Everything went smoothly but when i installed sbsettings and restarted my phone it went to safe mode. When i restarted my phone or respring it, it stays on safe mode. Had this happen to anyone? is there a solution? cuz if anything i might just have to restore and rejailbreak.

    If I reboot without rejailbreaking, say if it dies and I charge it up in the car, will it work as a jailed phone or will it be totally inoperable?

      Ur phone wld stuck in dfu mode til u use a com to boot ur phone. That’s the disadvantage of a tethered jailbreak, ur phone dies with the battery until u have a com.

    Please Help…I updated to ios5 using iTunes earlier today and the tried to jailbreak using redsnow and your video as a guideline, but i can’t find the IPSW ? when i go into library then iTunes the only file is for iTunes plug-ins and nothing of iPhone or iPhone updates?

    I updated to iOS 5 played with it for a while and then I decided to jailbreak it but what a HUGE mistake that was! About 65% of my jailbroken tweaks and apps don’t work with iOS 5; so I went back to my good old iOS 4.3.3 and PKGBackup brought my iPhone back to life in 3 minutes with ALL my tweaks and apps working 100%

    My advice to all of you is this, don’t jailbreak your iDevice until the untethered jailbreak comes out and hopefully by that time all the tweaks and apps in Cydia will be updated.

        Google felixbruns ..and find your Ipsw there…on a pc be for you save the file , At the end of the file file type .Ipsw then save , when redsnow asks for the Ipsw point it at this file…

        yes, well in windows itunes save the update in a diferent address, ok if you have windows go to My PC> users> (here you have to select your user) >APP data or documents (this folder will be hidden by default so you have to go to folder properties and un hide it) > itunes> ipod/iphone/ipad (it depends of your device) software update …. and there is the IPSW (if you downloaded from itunes.

    So I jailbroke my iPod touch to try it out before I did my iPhone and I was pretty disappointed to find that many of my favorite tweaks were not compatible like Winterboard, remove background, folder enhancer just to name a few. So tethered or untethered isn’t really the issue now. What’s the point of jailbreaking if I can’t really do much after the fact. :( So I would keep that in mind if you are waiting for an untethered jailbreak if you already are jailbroken on an older firmware.

      im having that exact issue. nothing i install from cydia works it all just crashes my phone and puts it into perpetual safe mode till i restore the phone. its so annoying.

    have the same with my Ipad1, i did everything due to instructions – clean ios 5 install, then DFU – redsn0w recognized it and started jailbreak – it hungs on “Exploiting with limera1n” – progress bar seems 100%. It looks like ipad exits DFU in some point – white apple logo appears,

    I tried to repeat procedure holding longer home button while in DFU – it progresses further – “loading stage 1″ and then redsn0w crushes…
    My os is XP SP2

      I have Windows 7 and an iPhone 4, so it must be a problem with redsnow, but it took so long that I had to cancel it and start again, and it worked. :/ I was afraid it might mess it up if I canceled it, but it seems to be fine.

    anyone can tell me if i can downgrade? im thinking about upgrading to 5.0, im on 4.3.3 right now! factory unlocked iphone 4! but i cant live without jailbreak, im worried if i will get used to tethered jailbreak, and if my tweaks will work properly! if everything goes wrong, i can roll back to 4.3.3 ? right? i have all shsh since 4.1!

    Two questions:
    - I see lots of people around different sites loosing their (jailbreak) apps (since you can’t back them up though iTunes right) and with that their data/savegames. Any way of making a backup of jailbreak apps & savegames to restore after updating to iOS5?

    - I read people suggesting not to upgrade for a month or two since most jailbreak apps don’t work on iOS5 yet. Anyone now is this is actually the case?

    Hey, I Succeed to jailbreak all the process, my iphone start with cydia in white icon, then i entered to DFU mode as you said, clicked in redsn0w on just bood and followed the steps, i saw the pineapple icon and after it disappered i saw the apple logo and then the tiny circle and it was stuck in loops and i had to do hard reset and the iphone turned on again but the cydia icon was in white, safari and mail doens’t work, and can I do please?

    I tried this but it get stuck on the “Identiying build” step and doesn’t do anything. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how to fix it? I’m trying to jailbreak a 3gs.
