Wouldn’t it be nice if you could compose a new mail or SMS message with the touch of a button? Well now you can.

Introducing: Message Icons, a jailbreak tweak that recently graced Cydia. It allows you to bypass all of the fluff, and get right to writing an email or SMS message.

It’s not the prettiest tweak in the world, but it’s most certainly functional. Take a gander inside for a visual rundown…

Message Icons places two dedicated app icons on your iPhone’s SpringBoard, each one allocated to a singular purpose.

The app icons themselves are quite ugly, but it’s nothing a quick UI refresh couldn’t fix in a future update.

If you want to try out Message Icons, head over to the BigBoss repo on Cydia, where you can download it for free.

What do you think?

  • Hi, this looks great!
However there’s a similar but better way. With SMS-Fast you can prepare some generally useful messages and your favorite contacts (speed-dials). From the home screen you do as follows:
    -press the SMS-Fast icon
-select a prepared message or type a message
    -select the recipient
-press the SMS-button, which gets you to the iPhone’s message template.
-press the send button in the template.

That’s all and the message is sent. If you want to see conversations, you can start the built-in message app.

Perhaps you changed your mind in the process? Ok, fine, then you just press the Email button instead of SMS. Or you decide to send it both ways? No problem, go ahead and press SMS first and then Email.

PS: An update (now in review) will allow you to have 5 instead of 3 speed-dials.

    Pretty handy!

I disagree pretty useless, I would never use it, we already have the mail and sms icons, will just save you one click

  • I don’t really understand the use case. You have or can have your SMS or EMAIL icons on your home screen already. I agree with Jorge

  • That would be an excellent addition to BiteSMS. I’d stash it in my Deck bar.
