Atari to Introduce Official iPad Arcade Controller

In an update to the Atari’s Greatest Hits iOS app, the evergreen gaming company has included support for an unannounced arcade stick. TheĀ “Atari Arcade — Duo Powered” joystick will be offered to the public soon for insanely addictive gaming on iPads everywhere.

The app’s description links to a web page that shows a photo of the mystery device, along with a short description which doesn’t really tell us all that much. The picture is enough for us to know we need this thing in our lives…

“Relive the fast-action excitement of all your arcade favorites, like Asteroids, Centipede, and Missile Command.

Simply connect your iPad to Atari’s Greatest Hits app for Duo, and you’re ready to share the fun with family and friends anywhere!”

Atari’s effort does appear to be a similar design to the iCade, which we all know and love, and is expected to work via Bluetooth rather than the Dock connector. This wouldĀ facilitativeĀ both landscape and portrait gaming. There is currently no pricing or availability info for Atari’s accessory, sadly.

That’s as much as we know, or have been able to glean from the photo as yet, and we can’t help but think that Atari could be doing a better job of marketing its new toy.

Who’s excited for a physical Atari joystick on the iPad?
