As usual, that didn’t take long. Hot of the heels of the Beta 5 release of iOS 5, the iPhone Dev Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.8b5, which, of course, allows you to jailbreak Apple’s bleeding edge firmware.

Per the norm, this is a tethered jailbreak, meaning you’ll have to be near a computer to perform a tethered boot if you have to restart your device for any reason.

This latest version of RedSn0w is available for both Mac and Windows users. Check inside for more details…

It’s business as usual as far as the jailbreak process goes. If you need help, head over to our in-depth RedSn0w tutorial for the full lowdown on how to jailbreak with RedSn0w.

As always, we only recommend that you install iOS 5 betas if you’re a legitimate developer. Otherwise, as MuscleNerd stated in his tweet, the final version isn’t too far off.

You can download both the Mac and Windows versions of RedSn0w 0.9.8b5 in our downloads section.

If you take the plunge, let us know how things work for you!

What does it matter, what is the point of any untethered on a beta, they all have a timeframe anyway in which you would have to upgrade to the final so what would be the point.

Anyone else end up with a grey/blank phone icon? Any ideas how to fix?

  • KJ

I installed respring from cydia and ran it.. Phone icon is back

Remember guys… if you have any issues with blank icons or stuff like Mail and Safari crashing, it’s because you didn’t boot tethered 🙂

1 thing I did notice the other day when my friend tried beta 5, for some reason it wouldn’t let news stand be moved into a folder which was annoying, everything else moved but not that which was starnge .. When it’s finally out anyway hopefully sbsettings is ported over and i’ll just hide news stand, waste fo time app anyway unless you actually want to buy magazines on your phone which I don’t.

newsstand is a folder. you cannot put a folder into a folder

well my cydia icon was white / blank before I booted tethered, but then the phone icon was white 🙂 , but a respring fixed it… for me..
