MailKeyboardHide De-Clutters Your iPhone Compose Screen

By Oliver Haslam on Jul 31, 2011

Just last month we told you about SMSHideKeyboard, a jailbreak tweak that brought iOS 5-like SMS keyboard hiding to the jailbreak scene.

Today we have a similar tweak, but one that has a trick up its sleeve. Going by the name of MailKeyboardHide, this slight variation of SMSHideKeyboard offers the ability to hide the iPhone’s keyboard during the composition of emails.

And it also does more than that… Read More

The iPhone Now Dominates the Skies

By Oliver Haslam on Jul 31, 2011

According to new a figure coming out of in-flight WiFi provider GoGo, Apple’s iPhone makes up two thirds of mobile device usage in the skies. The iPhone’s smaller sibling, the iPod touch, also accounts for a massive 20% of those using a small-screened device to access the internet while in the sky.

It’s not such good news for Google’s Android, however. According to an AllThingsD report, despite there being more different Android devices than there are people on the planet, (perhaps a slight exaggeration) devices powered by Google’s operating system make up a paltry 12% of mobile devices used… Read More

InstantCam Helps Take iPhone Photos Quickly

By Oliver Haslam on Jul 31, 2011

The iPhone 4 has a great camera, which makes it even more frustrating that the Camera app is just so damn slow.

It’s a common complaint. You spot the perfect photograph, but by the time you’ve tapped the icon, waited for the app to load, focussed, and finally hit the button to take the picture, the moment is gone.

IntantCam aims to stop that from happening, and it seems to work… Read More

Florida School Will be Giving Students iPads Instead of Textbooks This Year

By Cody Lee on Jul 30, 2011

Typically, gadgets are frowned on by teachers and affiliated staff (or as I like to call them, education enforcers). But that doesn’t seem to be the case at Lake Minneola High School in Lake County Florida.

According to the SunSentinel, Lake Minneola will be the first public school in Central Florida to purchase an iPad for every student. The move is part of a state pilot program designed to save money on textbooks, and offer a new approach to education… Read More

Apple Rolls Out 90 Second iTunes Song Previews Worldwide

By Oliver Haslam on Jul 30, 2011

It’s taken nine months, but the world finally has the same 90 second iTunes song previews that the United States gained way back in November 2010.

The change-over to the new and improved previews is currently underway, with not all songs yet sporting the full 90 seconds, though we suspect that’s more of a technical thing than Apple only providing longer previews for certain tracks.

Those tracks that have been upgraded now offer previews that are three times longer than the previous 30 seconds… Read More

HomeScreenMusic: Control Your Tracks by Tapping a Springboard Icon

By Cody Lee on Jul 30, 2011

One of my favorite things about the iOS iPod app is the fact that you can control the music from almost anywhere. You can pause or play tracks from the in-line remote, the lock screen, and even in the multitasking bar.

Jailbreaking opens up several other possibilities with utilities like Activator and SBSettings. But if all of these options weren’t enough, you now have another tweak to consider. HomeScreenMusic gives you access to iPod controls right on your springboard… Read More

One Man’s Trash – Why No Cydia Tweak is Completely Worthless

By Jeff Benjamin on Jul 29, 2011

Sound off the alarm. It looks as if a few folks have gotten spoiled. Either that, or they’re beginning to take for granted the benefits that jailbreaking brings to the table; namely, the ability to tweak our iPhone’s in any matter that we please.

For that reason, I try my hardest — although it is admittedly difficult at times — to take an objective stance on any tweak that comes across my desk… Read More

By Cody Lee on Jul 29, 2011

Last week we brought you some photos, published by 9to5Mac, of a possible next-gen iPod Touch part. The piece was particularly interesting because it was white. As you might know, previous versions of the iPod Touch have always been black with a stainless steel backing.

Now, the same blog that brought us the original photos of the white iPod Touch casing has gotten its hands on more pictures. While the original snapshots were taken in Asian, close to Apple’s manufacturing plants, these new pics come from here in America… Read More

Sprint Feeling the Effects of Not Carrying the iPhone

By Cody Lee on Jul 29, 2011

The United States’ 3rd largest wireless carrier held their quarterly earnings call yesterday, and the company posted a net loss of $847 million. In wake of the poor performance, Sprint’s stock dropped nearly 16% by the time the market closed last night.

Although they added a cool million customers last quarter, the company lost 101,000 contacts. What could be causing such a massive leak? Sprint cited Apple’s popular smartphone, especially the $49 iPhone 3GS, as a major factor for the customer deflections… Read More

Verizon and Apple in Talks Over 3G FaceTime Calls

By Oliver Haslam on Jul 29, 2011

Apple’s FaceTime video calling technology has been a mild success at best, with many flat out not using it, or lamenting the fact that, currently, a WiFi connection is required.

Reports that Apple has been working with carriers on this issue have been circulating for some time now, and 9to5Mac has received information that Verizon may actually be the ones who aren’t so keen on the idea… Read More
