‘multislide’ Supercharges Your ‘Slide to Unlock’ Bar

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get some extra mileage out of that one-trick pony Slide to Unlock bar?

That’s the purpose behind the latest TweakWeek tweak, and first entry by developer Tyler Nettleton. multislide allows you to open up pre-specified apps directly from the iPhone’s lock screen by means of the Slide to Unlock bar.

Although the name of the game with TweakWeek is short, simple, and to the point, you’ve got to respect the obvious extra effort that went into conceptualizing and designing this handy tweak…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is also the first TweakWeek entry to don a panel in the Settings app as well.

Venturing into the tweak’s settings panel will reveal five sections that allow you to assign one of seven of the iPhone’s most popular apps to a “Slide”.

So, for instance, if you setup “Slide One” to Safari, one additional slide of your iPhone’s Slide to Unlock bar will instantly open up Safari instead of just unlocking your iPhone to its springboard like normal.

All in all, multislide stands near the top of all TweakWeek tweaks thus far, although it’s not without opportunities for improvement.

It would be nice if you could choose from any app to assign to a slide shortcut instead of the pre-determined seven.

It would also be swell if the Slide to Unlock bar contained the name of the app that is destined to open instead of just “One”, “Two”, etc.

Lastly, the tweak doesn’t play very nice with the iPhone’s passcode, which is obviously uncool for a lot of folks.

Despite these few gripes, multislide is a definite contender for the best TweakWeek tweak. If your iPhone is jailbroken, you can obtain it from Ryan Petrich’s repo located here: http://rpetri.ch/repo/

Have you tried it, what did you think about it?
