Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get some extra mileage out of that one-trick pony Slide to Unlock bar?

That’s the purpose behind the latest TweakWeek tweak, and first entry by developer Tyler Nettleton. multislide allows you to open up pre-specified apps directly from the iPhone’s lock screen by means of the Slide to Unlock bar.

Although the name of the game with TweakWeek is short, simple, and to the point, you’ve got to respect the obvious extra effort that went into conceptualizing and designing this handy tweak…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this is also the first TweakWeek entry to don a panel in the Settings app as well.

Venturing into the tweak’s settings panel will reveal five sections that allow you to assign one of seven of the iPhone’s most popular apps to a “Slide”.

So, for instance, if you setup “Slide One” to Safari, one additional slide of your iPhone’s Slide to Unlock bar will instantly open up Safari instead of just unlocking your iPhone to its springboard like normal.

All in all, multislide stands near the top of all TweakWeek tweaks thus far, although it’s not without opportunities for improvement.

It would be nice if you could choose from any app to assign to a slide shortcut instead of the pre-determined seven.

It would also be swell if the Slide to Unlock bar contained the name of the app that is destined to open instead of just “One”, “Two”, etc.

Lastly, the tweak doesn’t play very nice with the iPhone’s passcode, which is obviously uncool for a lot of folks.

Despite these few gripes, multislide is a definite contender for the best TweakWeek tweak. If your iPhone is jailbroken, you can obtain it from Ryan Petrich’s repo located here: http://rpetri.ch/repo/

Have you tried it, what did you think about it?

Very nice. Until iOS 5 comes out, it gives me quick access to my camera, as well as Mail and iPod.

  • Like you said, very original. I like that a lot.

  • I tried to edit the preferences file in var/mobile/library/preferences to change it to a non-default app and it just sent me into safe mode…so it doesn’t work non-apple apps, so don’t try it…

I tried it only thing i found out is that it actually overrides passcode nd then simply pressing home button brings u to home

Jeff is a great addition to iphonedownloadblog, I like his quick video reviews

Wow, you have Deep River Utada Hikaru’s? I thought I was the only one outside of Japan that had that! Which song(s) do you have?

    • I have all of of her albums, English and Japanese. I went to her concert last year when she came to the States as well. She’s cool peoples. 😉

It’s not working for me unfortunately.
Shame, looks like a nice tweak.

Didn’t work for me either. I was able to set the preferences but unable to get the lock screen to function like the video

Indeed, a tweak I personally liked a lot. Makes it easy to open up some ram if the phone starts acting a bit sluggish.

As for this tweak, it seems more sensible to me for a double slide to open up a customuzable icontray. That way you don’t have to consecutivly add more actions to get to a certain app. I have a feeling such a tweak already exists though.

Superb app! It works a treat, and doesn’t bypass the lock code as mentioned above. I panicked as well at first, but remembered it was time locked ;p I have mine set to 15 mins, and it works perfectly as before

If your iphone is locked normally you would slide to unlock and then have to put in your pw.. With this tweak installed you go directly to the app your opening without having to enter your pw..

When I add the http://rpetri.ch/repo/ repo, these are the only 2 apps available to me: Untrackerd and DeepDive. I removed/readded the source from cydia withouth any change. I Also manually removed the source with iFile and I still only see 2 apps. I will add the app from bigboss repo but is this normal?
