Square Introduces “Card Case” to Revolutionize Mobile Payments

We've told you about the revolutionary mobile payment system for iOS, called Square. As a creation by  Twitter's co-founder, Jack Dorsey, Square aimed at bringing mobile payments to the iPhone and iPad in a way that's never been done before.

As was unveiled yesterday, Square has introduced the next step in its path towards dominance of the mobile payment industry, called the Card Case. Instead of paying with a physical credit card or cash, why not just use an app and your own name?

FolderLock: Password Protect Folders, the Settings App, and Multitasking

It seems like the gears of the underground iOS development have been rapidly turning for the past month. There has been a steady flow of new and innovative tweaks and applications over the last several weeks, and it doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon.

FolderLock, developed by Andrea Oliva, just went live in the BigBoss repo. The new jailbreak app will allow you to password protect almost everything in iOS, from folders to the Settings app.

140plus Lets Twitter Users Really Talk it Out

Another Twitter-related jailbreak tweak has hit the underground app store known as Cydia. With over 200 million folks using the social networking service, it's a fairly popular target for developers.

From Moe Seth, the developer who brought you Photector, comes 140plus. This utility will allow users to continue tweeting, even when that pesky 140 character limit rears its head...

Apple Store App Updated With New Configure Options and Better In-Store Support

Apple made a pretty big revamp to its retail experience over this past weekend. What sites have started calling "Apple Store 2.0" now features interactive iPad displays for each product and enhancements for customer and Apple employee interaction.

Alongside Apple Store 2.0, Apple has updated its official Apple Store app with a few enhancements. You can now configure a new Mac with specific customizations (like on Apple's website), and do things like see how many people are in front of you in line at your local Apple store...

SlideAway Jailbreak Tweak Will Enhance Your iPhone’s Lockscreen

The lockscreen has always been an interesting area of the iPhone's interface for jailbreak devs to experiment with. You've got LockInfo, AndroidLock, awesome themed lockscreens, and weirder experiments like RecognizeMe that are all available in Cydia.

The newest addition to the lockscreen enhancement category looks to be SlideAway by popular jailbreak developer, Filippo Bigarella. Filippo has brought us several jailbreak apps in the past, including Springtomize, CleverPin, MyVolume, and NowPlaying for Tweetbot. SlideAway looks to be his greatest creation yet...

i3D – the 3D Head-tracking Project Turned App

Remember back in early April when we posted a video of that impressive 3D demo? Well, it seems like the developers were able to turn that project into an actual iOS application.

Before you get too excited, you should know that the software is pretty limited. It really isn't much more than a showcase for the 3D technology that was shown in the popular video released last month...

Apple Answers Lodsys by Saying Developers Are Licensed

You might have heard of Lodsys, a company that has been threatening to sue iOS developers for patent infringement, namely patents that evolve around in-app purchases. Even though Apple is licensed to legally use the patent, Lodsys claims that app developer are not and they should pay the company small royalty fees.

After being called out by the EFF for not taking a stand for its app developers, it seems that Apple finally decided to speak up. In a letter sent to Lodsys, Bruce Sewell, Apple Senior Vice President and General Counsel, was quoted saying the following:

Chronic Dev Team Gives an Update on iPad 2 Jailbreak and GreenPois0n Support for iOS 4.3.X

Last week, iOS hacker and member of the Chronic Dev Team p0sixninja was quoted saying it was just a matter of weeks until the team releases an update to their jailbreak tool GreenPois0n, which was supposedly going to work with the iPad 2 as well.

It seems that p0sixninja spoke a little too fast, and got every jailbreaker out there a little too excited. In order to make things clearer, the team posted an update on their blog today. This update covers the iPad 2 jailbreak and support for iOS 4.3.x in GreenPois0n...

iOS 5 Multitasking and App Switching Concept Video

Last week we showed you a concept video by Jan-Michael Cart of how speech recognition might work on iOS 5. Although it is just a concept developed by a person not related to Apple, it's still interesting to see how things might work one day on the iPhone. Jan-Michael is back at it this week with a concept video of how multitasking and app switching might work on iOS 5.

Even though Apple made a huge step forward with iOS 4 and the introduction of multitasking, there is still some room for improvement, and this video is the proof of it...

About This 64GB iPhone…

Yesterday we reported on a memo from Russell Cellular, a third-party Verizon retailer that mentioned something about a 64GB iPhone. Most of us got very excited at the idea of more storage on the iPhone. "Finally, I'm going to be able to store all my music on my iPhone", I said to myself.

It seems that we got our hopes too high for this as Russell Cellular confirmed it was just a typo, as we kind of expected. Disappointed much?

Installer 4.0 Making a Comeback to Compete with Cydia?

Earlier this month we reported on the return of a Cydia alternative known as Icy to the jailbreak scene. The renewed package installer came out swinging with a quick and simple user interface, as well as the ability to add all of your favorite sources.

From the same folks that brought you Icy, comes Installer 4.0. The Infini-Dev team posted on their blog yesterday that they had successfully ported Installer to iOS 4.3.3, let the nostalgia and deja vu begin...

The Invisible iPhone Might Soon Become a Reality

Do you remember the iPhone 3Gi that the Onion joked about a few months ago? The "i" stood for "invisible" as the Onion staff were mocking the iPhone which they thought would one day become invisible. Believe it or not but an invisible iPhone might be available one day, according to a research project carried out by a few German researchers.

The project, dubbed Imaginary iPhone, allows you to use your iPhone without even taking it out of your pocket. So how does this work exactly?
