Most of you that have upgraded to Apple’s latest firmware, have probably already jailbroken your iDevices using RedSn0w or PwnageTool. If you haven’t yet, you may want to give Sn0wbreeze a try. As we reported earlier, the jailbreak software has joined the iOS 4.3.3 party, courtesy of i0n1c‘s untether.

Although generally mentioned last when discussing jailbreak options, Sn0wbreeze  is still a good choice for jailbreakers looking to hack their iDevices with ease. It’s especially useful for folks with Verizon iPhones, as the software created by iH8sn0w is currently the only way to jailbreak 4.2.8…

It’s important to note that Sn0wbreeze 2.7 is only for Windows users. It will jailbreak all recent iDevices on 4.3.3 and Verizon iPhones on 4.2.8, minus the iPad 2. Now that that’s out of the way, let me show you how easy it is to hack your iDevice using Sn0wbreeze.

Before beginning, make sure you are on the latest version of iTunes and that your iDevice is running iOS 4.3.3 or 4.2.8. Also, if your iPhone is unlocked, or might be in the future, Sn0wBreeze is the way to go as it will preserve your baseband.

Step 1: Download Sn0wbreeze 2.7 from our downloads section. Also make sure to download the 4.3.3 firmware while you’re there (or 4.2.8 for Verizon iPhone users). I recommend saving everything to your desktop to keep organized.

Step 2: Launch Sn0wbreeze and click OK through the warning. Locate the firmware you downloaded, and drag it onto the marked area. Click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 3: Sn0wbreeze will then take a moment to verify the IPSW file you just loaded. Once the firmware is identified, you will be asked to continue.

Step 4: In this menu, select Expert Mode and then you are welcome to experiment with any of the options in General, Custom packages, or Custom boot logos. Once ready, click Build IPSW. Since this can take a while, you can choose to play a game of PacMan while you wait.

Step 5: Once complete, Sn0wbreeze will ask you to put your iDevice in DFU mode. Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continue holding the Home button for another 10 seconds.

Step 6: If done correctly, you should get a message that says your device is ready to go, and you may now open iTunes and install the custom firmware. Do this by plugging your iDevice into your computer, find it in iTunes, and hold down Shift while clicking the Restore button. This allows you to manually select the firmware that iTunes will use, just find the custom IPSW that Sn0wbreeze just made.

Once iTunes installs the firmware, your device should restart in a jailbroken state. Any questions?

  • Skywatcher77

Hasnt worked for me, iphone 3gs new bootrom. Followed instructions as above, all went well untill the last instuction and itunes now says could not be restored error (3194)

    • STK10

I got the same error with same phone. i can restore to my old firmware no probs :/
Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

      • megatr0n

same problem, same phone. even tried to jus do a regular update and got 3194 error. :/

any solutions? maybe apple knows about my phone now… lol.

  • @cripo you’ll need to upgrade your iPhone to iOS 4.3.3, and then jailbreak it. You can try using xbackup or apt backup, but chances are you’ll lose your apps. If you paid for them, you shouldn’t have to pay again to re download.

    • cripo

so i just update it throw itunes first then follow the instructions and jailbreak again with sn0wbreeze

  • @skywatcher if you don’t need an unlock, just let iTunes restore your device to iOS 4.3.2 like normal, then try rejailbreaking. If you’re still having issues, restore and try red sn0w.

  • Skywatcher77

@cody yeah thats what im trying next, going with the instructions above im 99% sure it doesnt mention that i had to upgrade to 4.3.3 from itunes first. Such a pain because it takes forever to download from their servers.

  • tammie

i have iphone4, cdma, 4.2.8 software on the phone, trying to jailbreak as instructed above, but cant put the new software i downloaded in snowbreeze to start. Do i unzip it or what?? Not sure what im doing wrong, please help!!

  • MKD

I use this for my wife’s phone. Easy! No issues. But on mine what’s the procedure to reinstall all my iTunes settings and cydia settings??? Sure it’s easy to jailbreak but how about restoring everything. Help please?

  • Eric

Jesus! Verizon 4.2.8 NO GO! Error 3194. Tried it on 2 different computers with 2 different operating systems.

This is LAME! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH Sn0wbreeze until they fix this crap!

    • technomancer

I read somewhere that the 3194 error is due to the hosts file pointing to saurik server. Try deleting it from your hosts file.

The hosts file for Windows 7 is at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Remove or comment out the entry 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

  • Acolz

I think you confuse a lot of people with this : “Before beginning, make sure you are on the latest version of iTunes and that your iDevice is running iOS 4.3.3 or 4.2.8. Also, if your iPhone is unlocked, or might be in the future, Sn0wBreeze is the way to go as it will preserve your baseband.”
If you need to unlock your iPhone (as me (3GS – 4.0.1 – 05.13.04)) you must create the custom IPSW first and then update by Shift+Restoring in iTunes… Or not? How else would you preserve your BB?

    • jigar1110

      @Acolz need your help….
I am looking for the same thing….

      • Use Redsn0w for windows to jailbreak, download ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock. There are step by step tutorials to do both on this site.

      • jigar1110

        @cody..
I read that Redsn0w will update the basebend tooo and wont let the unlock happen..?
        Is that true?

  • John

will this work on a 3GS Version 4.3.3 (8J2) Modem Firmware 05.16.02? Thanks for any info.

  • i try to jailbreak my iphone but can’t, please send me links. i can’t download allso why i don’t know please send me link.

  • Luca

You guys should really research more instead of blaming the software. The error is normale, is Apple’s way to mess up with our heads. You need a little piece of software to fix the error after it appears.
Google fixrecovery and look for a tutorial on how to use it. I did yesterday and my phone is jailbroken and unlocked now on 4.3.3

  • Rob

    Hi all

Will this work on a 3GS Version 4.3.2 (8H7) my phone is anlocked Modem Firmware 05.16.02? Thanks for any info.

  • megatr0n

finally no more errors.. for me-

  • Lola

Damn, I just did the whole thing, it worked. No errors, but then after iTunes said the iPhone would restart, nothing happened! So I’m stuck in DFU mode, I tried pressing the home and sleep buttons together, but I can only hear the usb connect and disconnect sounds. It’s not responding :-/// The screen is all black :-((( Help?

  • Bem

whyy wont snow breeze accept the file once i download it ? neither drag and drop or browse. its a compressed folder in my desktop. ive also tried extracting the files but that hasnt made a difference. ive never done anything like this before what am i missing?

  • Dan

Lola, I’m having the exact same problem as you. Did you get it figured out?

    • Lola

Couldn’t kick it out of DFU mode 🙁 So I had to restore (yupp, I lost the unlock) and then used redsnow which was very smooth and error-free 🙂 then I used recboot to kick the phone out of recovery mode 🙂 and voilà 🙂

  • Danny

Download it using Firefox/chrome, IE saves it as zip which is not recognized

  • Hubert

    i get Error 21. Problem?

  • bignicky53
