Why should you jailbreak the iPhone? That’s a question that gets asked here at iDB all the time. If you consider yourself a jailbreak expert, you’ve most likely been asked the same question once or twice.

There’s perhaps no one man more qualified to answer that question than Jay Freeman, a.k.a. “saurik.” Saurik created Cydia–Β the hub of the jailbreak world. He is the man responsible for what the jailbreak community has become today.

At the Mobile Connections conference, Robert Scoble caught up with saurik and Cydia’s “Community and User Experience” manager for a short talk about jailbreaking.

Saurik gave a brief explanation of what jailbreaking allows you to do on the iPhone, and he also talked about Cydia and some of his favorite tweaks from the Cydia store.

Some of the tweaks/apps that saurik and Brenda mentioned:

As noted in the interview, saurik recommends the RedSn0w jailbreak tool. Check out our RedSn0w tutorial to learn how to jailbreak your iPhone.

When Scoble first asked saurik why you should jailbreak, saurik said that it gives you,”the freedom to do things that are outside of the scope of an application.”

How would you answer someone if they asked you why to jailbreak? What tweaks or apps would you show off?

Here is what i have installed:
    -SBSettings (Serious theme)
    -Color Keyboard

Wow its cool to see Jay Freeman in a video for the first time “for me”. This guy is amazing what this person did. This is a person that is dedicated to the Jailbreak community, he always gets it done.
Let talk about the Chronic-Dev, I think they are selfish basterds. Comex teased us with a iPad 2 Jailbreak and never released it. Just recently some random person did the same and everyone gave him hell. My point being is that we need Dev’s like Jay “Saurik” Freeman I wish he made jailbreaks.

If no jailbreak I might go with nokia, samsung or bb. Jailbreak is the only reason I bought iPhone.

  • Drs

Another reason to jailbreak iphone is iTelePad2Pod. Out of curiosity I tried it out on an iphone app (not an ipad app) on my mac to see if it would install it on my iphone through terminal (without the need to manually ssh into my iphone). It worked perfectly. I can now install any iphone apps on my Mac using iTelePad2Pod.

Anyone knows whose or which copyright was infringed, so utube has removed it? Jailbreaking is not an infringment, so why is talking about it????

  • Basurto

    YouTube has removed the video!

Mate, for fecks sake get some grooming products in your life. I appreciate all the smart things you help me with on the IPhone so I’m going to help you out too. Get a haircut, proper one, not a comb over.Have a shave, you could keep a mexican moustache if you want to keep fungus on your face. Have a good bath and cut your nails. Much better, you just need to get shot of all the knitwear and pens etc that you have on lanyards and your set to join the real world with real interactions. Slowly at first, try to talk to a girl other than your Mum. I think I’ll call this Saurik Jailbreak V1.0. I’ll be adding some minor tweaks over the coming days, do your own clothes shopping or have a conversation without sounding like comic book guy.

i love you jay freeman you are the man
please come up with a jailbreak for 4.3.2 i want to see the face on the mac people.

Jailbreaking, in general cuts the chains that binds us to the corperate $hitheads that wish to control us like cattle. For anyone worried about being tracked, install locationd blocker via cydia. You must add http://cydia.pushfix.info/, please do it for your constitutional right to the fourth amendment!
