Just about 4 days after Apple released iOS 4.3.2 for iPhone, an updated version of the untethered jailbreak has been released earlier today by iPhone hacker i0n1c. This untethered jailbreak was used by the Dev Team who also updated their jailbreak tool RedSn0w.

In this post, we will show you how to use RedSn0w to jailbreak your iPhone on iOS 4.3.2. This jailbreak will work with any device on iOS 4.3.2, except for the iPad 2…

UPDATE: It seems that RedSn0w is having issues with the iPhone 4. If you have an iPhone 4, you might want to wait a bit for these issues to be worked out. The Dev Team released RedSn0w 0.9.6rc14 that fixes issues with the iPhone 4. The tutorial remains the same, just make sure to use the latest RedSn0w version available.

Keep in mind that to use RedSn0w, you have to be on firmware 4.3.2, which means you will update your baseband. In simple words, do not use RedSn0w if you need your unlock. Instead, wait patiently for PwnageTool, which will allow you to update to 4.3.2 while preserving your baseband for easy unlocking.

This is a simplified version of our RedSn0w tutorial. For full step by step illustrated instructions, please refer to our previous RedSn0w tutorial. Just make sure you download the right firmware for your device, along with the latest version of RedSn0w available.

Step 1: Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. Make sure your iPhone is on 4.3.2. Download iOS 4.3.2 and RedSn0w from our download page.

Step 2: Launch RedSn0w and follow the onscreen instructions. These instructions are pretty straightforward and there isn’t much room for error. Again, for full tutorial, refer to our previous RedSn0w guide.

Step 3: RedSn0w will ask you to put your iPhone in DFU mode. Make sure you follow the instructions on the screen. This is a key part of the process. Make sure you hold the Power and Home button together for exactly 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the Power button and keep holding the home button until iTunes tells you it has detected your iPhone.

Step 4: If you’ve successfully entered DFU mode, RedSn0w will start the jailbreak process. Lay back, relax, as this process could take a few minutes. At the end of it, your iPhone will reboot. When it’s done, you will have Cydia on your homescreen.

Congratulations, you just jailbroke your iPhone 4.3.2.

UPDATE 2: If you tried this with your iPhone 4 and got stuck on Apple logo, you may want to try this fix.

  • Jason

    i cant download Redsn0w 0.9.6 rc9… can i download any of it?

  • HomersDK

Tried the redsn0w rc14 first on my 3GS, but nothing happened under the limera1n exploit.
I couldn’t push finish and it didn’t installed anything on the phone.
I got the redsn0w rc13 and jailbreak went fine and got the white Cydia icon, but cydia wan’t start, i can see it in a spil second, but then back to dashboard.
    Any suggestion?
My 3GS is an old one and never had problems with JB until now.

    • Mario

Same here…. has anyone got a fix on this yet?

  • HomersDK

I tried to do that again with redsn0w rc14 and now it runs the JB fine, but again when trying to start Cydia, it doesn’t 🙁
So I have the white Cydia icon that doesn’t work.
Hope that someone know a fix.
Otherwise I will try later to restore in iTunes and then try again.

  • David

You guys, boot into tethered mode, see if that works.

I am in the process of getting my phone back to the modded glory that it was before I updated to 4.3.2…..

  • HomersDK

After a full restore, then it went smoothly and all works again.
    Nice 🙂

To all Jailbreak Redsn0w 0.9.6 rc14 fans….after update the IOS to 4.3.2 DO NOT SYNC or whatsoever to the phone. In other words do not put any data to the phone. It will make the phone stuck at boot logo. Here what i did:

    1. after update restore the phone to initial state DO NOT sync first.
    2. Jailbreak and follow the instruction
    3. once completed, Open itunes and Sync/restore backup.

To the people who had stuck at boot logo, you guys need to put the phone into the DFU mode. Then restore phone using itunes. If the itunes stated can’t connect to the apple verification server, edit your host file at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts using notepad.

Edit your existing server host to
#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com (it depends on your country)
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

normally at the end of the file. save and try to restore back. Owh…before you open the host file please change the attribute (un-tick the read only).
Then restore as usual….and repeat step 1.

  • KNul18

    i can’t update to 4.2.1, and still i have iTunes 10.2.2

  • ali

    someone PLEASE HELP:(
can you restore this jailbreak? like restore it using the restore button in itunes so its no longer jailbroken?

  • David

If you restore your phone while your device is jailbroken, you will lose the jailbreak, that is correct.

And the only way to update to 4.2.1 is if you saved your shsh blobs.

  • scheezo

I had the same problem after the jailbreak (stuck on apple logo) and this is what i did:

    1. Edited host file at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts using notepad (deleted all line with “localhost” and “gs.apple.com”
    2. Restored firmware through iTunes.
    3. Ran RedSn0w 0.9.6rc14 again.

Now my iPhone4 is jailbroken under 4.3.2 untethered version

    Hope this helps

Help!! I don’t know why my iphone hold on the “Upload Ramdisk” when I JB………..

  • Benny G

  • Tom

PsychicNoodles says: April 10, 2011 at 6:48 pm (PULLED FROM THE PREVIOUS BREAK)

NOTE TO USERS OF WINDOWS 7:

If you use redsn0w 0.9.6rc12 (the newest one as of the posting of this comment) and you’re using Windows 7, you may run into an issue where redsn0w.exe gets stuck on “Uploading ramdisk”. If this happens, close redsn0w, right-click it, and select Troubleshoot Compatibility. Choose the bottom option and say it worked on an older version of Windows AND it needs certain privileges. Press next. Choose Windows XP Service Pack 3. Press next. It should say that it will run compatibility mode with Windows XP SP 3 with admin privileges. Now it shall work.

    • Tom

This worked for me – was getting the hangup on the “upload ramdisk” and this fixed it. Should only take a few seconds if working right!

    • Motion

I had same prob on uploading ram bla bla this workd fine thank u ur my hero

    • Sascha

Thanks for your description! This helped me solve my problem.

After that JB 4.3.2 on iPhone 4 worked like a charm.

Restoring with PkgBackup went smoothly after that. Now my iPhone is almost exactly like it was before the update to 4.3.2 (came from 4.2.1).

      Yippie-ya-yay! 😀

  • Rohit

Successfully jailbroke 3GS running on 4.3.2 (05.16.02) without upgrading baseband using redsn0w rc14. For me on vista, even on XP compatibility I was constantly getting errors that redsn0w has stopped working. I then ran the program on Windows 95 compatibility mode and everything went on smoothly.
Can any one now point me in the direction of getting this phone unlocked (with preserving the baseband)?

  • Gary

I have an iPhone 3GS (new one) and got stuck on upload ramdisk as well, but Tom’s instructions worked perfectly. Thanks!!

  • Greg

I must be doing something wrong — just don’t know what . . . I downloaded redsn0w rc14 to my desktop and I saved 4.3.2 also. When it asks for the location of the current IPSW, I can’t locate it.

Please remind me where I’m supposed to be looking — Is it supposed to be in the file I downloaded? Am I supposed to be looking in my phone? Is my phone supposed to be connected when I start redsn0w?

It has worked in the past, but it has been a while since I performed this task (back with 4.2).

Thanks in advance for the help.

  • William

  • William

  • Kev

    Thanks

    • james Palani

for RAY, GREG and KEV. please download 4.3.2.IPSW file back, this time when you try to download make sure you verify file name 4.3.2.IPSW not 4.3.2.zip.You can rename it upon your start downloading the file.please take not you cannot rename it after downloding completed.

      • Kev

thanks James i save it as an .ipsw file but redsn0w runs then says cannot recognize specified .ipsw so i still cant do it

  • michele

Please excuse my ignorance, but…do I need to upgrade to 4.3.3 through iTunes first? If so, can I just run redsn0w without downloading the 4.3.3 .ipsw file here? (and if I get it from here, does it need to be downloaded to a specific directory to be identified? On previous tries, I have had the same trouble as Ray, Greg and Kev!) Thanks in adavance for the help!
