If you’ve ever disabled your iPhone’s “Simple Passcode” in the Passcode Lock section of the Settings.app, then you’re no doubt familiar with the black keyboard that’s hidden within iOS.

Most of the folks I know stick to the simple numeric passcode as a means to protect their iPhones, thus they’re not aware that a black keyboard even exists.

The sad news is that besides the lock screen, you’re unable to use the black keyboard anywhere else; that is, until now.

Black Keyboard is a new jailbreak tweak available for the iPhone that allows you to enable the elusive black keyboard anywhere…

The tweak is quite the simple affair, just install it, respring and enjoy your new black digs.

The black keyboard will be available in every app that utilizes a keyboard.

Personally, I think this adds a nice look to the iPhone, and it’s sure to impress your friends who never knew that a black keyboard existed in the first place.

Black Keyboard is available for jailbroken iPhones and it’s free for download on Cydia.

What do you think? Is black the new black?

caused my springboard to crash. after uninstalling still couldn’t get out of safe mode. had to restore (which upgrade me to 4.3.2) and now i have tethered jailbreak. stay away from this.

    • I had no issues with the install. Works perfectly fine on my 4.3.1. Perhaps you have a tweak installed that is causing conflicts. Eric, why would you have to restore to 4.3.2? You didn’t back up your SHSH blobs?

      • Eric

        Nope. Dropped the ball there.

    • James

In safe mode you can still launch Cydia and uninstall the item and them respring.

      Problem solved.

    • diango

if u got ur shsh blob i can help you getting back

  • Remy

i installed it and didnt work for me :/

    • Remy

And i have rebooted/re-springed like 20 times already.

  • DIno

Can’t find it on Cydia. What do you search for?

    • eric

well if you’re crazy enough to try it though it doesn’t work and crashes springboards, just check changes, it just came out yesterday. or search Black Keyboard. It’s in ModMyi repo.

      • DIno

I tried. It worked okay with me. But deleted it right away when I saw the comments. Just in case.
But I still preferred the original keyboard, wasn’t much of a big diff to me. Thanks.

  • Requires iOS 4.2 and up, apparently. I’m still on 4.1 I guess (totally forgotten!)
If you can’t find it, go to Sections, Tweaks and reload list.

  • James

I love it! Works great for me. I’m using 4.2.6.

  • Andrew

    iAcces is where it’s at.

  • Jimmy

Installed it, I’m an idiot, and got the spinning toe-hold of death. After five minutes I went to put it in DFU mode and it started to boot normally. Uninstalled it, rebooted it, and that’s a wrap! Why in the H.E.double hockey sticks would I not heed others warnings? I always heed. I heed therefor I’m safe. Aside from this one time.

  • yrteght

Black Keyboard also works when you are typing your iTunes password.

    • QuarterSwede

      That’s where I’ve seen it. I don’t use a password lock.

      • Anonymous

        yeah, same here

  • XepptizZ

It crashed during respring, didn’t do anything after reboot or second respring on ios 4.2.1 other than give me the same keys on a black background. I have never seen the black keyboard as shown in the screenahot section of the app.

    • Airizom

That keyboard is only for the ipad.

      • XepptizZ

Thnx, now i know it was a timewaste if it wasnt already 🙂

  • Omar

I already installed the Theme , and it is working perfectly in my iPhone 3GS with 4.3.1 . I have no Idea how do the other user have any problem with this simple thing. In what I have or had a problem was with the Disable Multitasking on IOS 4. I can’t install it without some icon disapears. Does anyone know anything about how to disable multitasking IN IOS 4.3.1?????????

    I Need Hep with this.

  • Jimmy

Omar. Simple to install but if the app crashes or hangs it’s not the fault of the installer.

  • rebo

I think this app is intended more for the iPad — working fine on my original iPad on 4.3.1.

  • Rakshit Doshi

the keyboard is nothing like the screenshots show. the keys are same and the bg is black. its a good change but i expected more. check out the screenshots and you’ll see what i mean. BTW, works fine on iPhone 4, 4.2.1. No restart/respring issues.

  • Tim

This is working fine on my iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1.

  • Joseph

Check out Color Keyboard guys, you’ll actually end up with black keys and more (pink ones, transparent ones, ones with your own pic.)

  • icyhotonmynuts

now the only thing someone needs to do is ad a competent dictionary to replace apples atrocious bullshit auto correct.

  • Arcrammer

It should have BEEN black to match the new iPhone, iPad, and iPod 4’s bodies!
