Famous userland jailbreak hacker @Comex has just tweeted some interesting information regarding the status of i0n1c’s iOS 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak exploit.

According to @Comex, i0n1c’s untethered jailbreak kernel exploit used in redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 doesn’t seem to be patched yet in the new iOS 4.3.2 released earlier today…

By the way, iOS 4.3.2 is (as far as I can see) still vulnerable to @i0n1c‘s untether vulnerability.

At this point in time, the Dev Team has advised jailbreakers and unlockers to stay away from the iOS update, until they’ve thoroughly tested it to see if its safe.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems that those of you that updated to iOS 4.3.2 today were only able to get a tethered jailbreak, leading us to believe that Apple has indeed patched i0n1c’s untethered kernel exploit from iOS 4.3.1. But that may not be the case. If Comex is right about iOS 4.3.2 still being vulnerable to the untether vulnerability, it might just need to be updated to support the new firmware. Keep in mind, this is pure speculation on my part.

As always, we’ll keep you updated when we hear more on the subject!

  • It being tethered currently doesn’t mean it was patched. Several things in the jailbreak would need to be updated to work with 4.3.2. The kernel patches used in the jailbreak would likely need to be updated for 4.3.2.

Jailbroken my iPhone 3Gs (Old Bootrom) 4.3.2 iOS with Redsn0w 0.9.6rc12 successfully. Did get one error when installing couple of tweaks via Cydia – after installing the tweaks, upon rebooting phone, the phone just froze on the loading circle. but when i got back into my phone and then cydia, i received the error i remember it being in yellow writing (forgot to print screen) – but this hasnt caused any other problems thus far. Have been able to reboot/respring/restart phone without any issues.

Wow I wonder are we seeing a new dawn of an unpatchable jail break method

    Would be nice

  • I’m sure it will be patchable however from what I understand i0n1cs method for jail breaking is pretty complicated and may take a while for apple engineers to properly decode what he’s done.

      You gotta love those guys

And they are baffled as to how dose give me a warm feeling in my belly

i0n1c posted on twitter that his exploit still works. He is traveling now and can’t give it the updat that it needs, buy plans to start working on it Sunday. So hopefull next week we have 4.3.2. But, the main thing is his method still works. He already jailbroke his iPad 1 on 4.3.2.
