After weeks of anticipation, the Dev Team released a jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 tonight, thanks to iPhone hacker i0n1c. This jailbreak will work with iPhone 4G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, and the second generation of Apple TV.

In this step by step guide and tutorial, we will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone 4.3.1 using RedSn0w. RedSn0w is a jailbreak that works both for Mac and Windows. Unlike PwnageTool, RedSn0w updates your baseband, so this is probably your preferred jailbreak method if you don’t rely on an unlock….

If you do rely on an unlock, we suggest you use PwnageTool. At any rates, you should read this post before doing anything.

Step 1: Make sure your iPhone is on firmware 4.3.1.

Step 2: Download RedSn0w 0.9.6 rc9 from our iPhone downloads section. Save it to your desktop. Also download the iOS 4.3.1 firmware for your iPhone and save it to your desktop as well.

Step 3: Launch RedSn0w and click Browse to select the 4.3.1 firmware you downloaded in step 2. RedSn0w will ask you if it is a newer firmware or not. Read the explanation and select an answer. In this tutorial, we will select an older model, but it doesn’t really make a difference. Once you selected Yes or No, click Next to continue.

Step 4: RedSn0w is now going to prepare the jailbreak data, which should take just a few seconds.

Step 5: RedSn0w will now ask you to select a few options. For this tutorial, we will only choose to “Install Cydia”, which is the bare minimum. You can also install custom boot logos for example, but this is just optional. Click Next to continue.

Step 6: RedSn0w will ask you to make sure it is plugged in to your computer and turned off. If it’s not, follow the onscreen instructions.

Step 7: Make sure you’re ready because RedSn0w will give you a few instructions to follow in order to enter DFU mode.

Step 8: If you successfully enter DFU mode, RedSn0w will now jailbreak your iPhone. You should see a bunch of funny code displaying on your iPhone, then you should see a pwnapple. It’s all good, relax and let the magic happen.

Step 9: Once done, your iPhone will reboot by itself. You should now have a jailbroken iPhone with Cydia installed.

Congratulations, you just jailbroke your iPhone in just a few minutes.

At the risk of being banned: some of you people here are A: too stupid to even attempt to jailbreak:Quote: “I cannot find XP3 compatability mode on Win 7?”,Ask somebody with a pc on Windows 7, most people have a pc, and a fair amount of them know their way around their OS. B:No one seems to know how to just by changing the file extention of a zip to .ipsw you GET an .ipsw, you can just google for such an answer.C: are not very helpfull to others who ask a specific, not too hard to answer question like I did.
READ THE GOOD SITES, like for example the one of the before you ask such ignorent things.
Not everybody is a computer whizz, nor is that expected, I know I am not, but is it too much to ask to educate yourself a little bit before you attempt a major operation like jailbreaking has become?
Thanks for nothing, I did not get ANY pointers, not even flawed ones.
    I am done here.

I jailbroke my iphone succesfully. But now how am I going to get service through Tmobile? I trimmed the sim to micro and inserted it but it won’t work. The iPhone says “Invalid SIM”
I already have an unlimited plan with Tmobile and I have a working phone that I use a different sim with currently. Do I have to get the micro acctivated? Or…?! Im so confused being a girl and technologically challenged.

    • Alex Osorio

Perhaps you trimmed the card not exactly right. Futhermore there sre non-micro sims that aren’t suitable for trimminng beause the chip is just to big and you cut that as well.
My advise to you is, if that is possible in your country: contact T-Mobile and either ask for a duo sim with aone of them with a micro sim layout, or just explain you need a micro sim and order that from them.
There is nothing illegal about that: when I bought my iPhone 4 here in the Netherlands on a plan with a network I do not use, I ordered two sets of micro sims from Vodafone and T mobile.
Again: legal because here there are a few other handsets on the market with just micro sim slots.
      Hope I helped.

I used to Redsn0w to jailbreak my iPhone 4.3 (8F190) BB 4.10.01 and everything seemed to be working fine, but when I put in a local sim (not from the original carrier, SFR) it gives me an invalid sim message. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help!
