It looks like an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 might not take as long as people might have thought.

This new video shows off an iPod touch that’s running iOS 4.3.1 with an untethered jailbreak.

If you’re still unsure what the benefits of an untethered jailbreak are, check out this article.

Does this mean that the author will release a jailbreak tool themselves? Well, not exactly, but this is still great news for jailbreakers…

In the description of the YouTube video showcasing the untethered jailbreak, the author explains his position:

a. I repeatedly stated that I will not release a jailbreak tool – I will only give out the untether. I did not try yet, but if it is feasible the untether could be a cydia package.

b. While the vulnerability I use is in the iPad 2 kernel my untether will NOT SUPPORT the iPad 2, because there is no way to install it there (bootrom exploits fixed). – however Comex is working on that part.

c. I am not giving out any ETA again, because the Jailbreak community is simply nuts. Last time I gave an ETA and even before that had passed I got constantly insulted by people that were demanding an immediate release. Sorry guys the more you insult people with the knowledge to actually do what YOU WANT the less motivation there is to use our free time to give it to you.

So although we won’t be receiving a jailbreak tool with untethered capabilities from the author — his video uses the latest version of Sn0wbreeze to showcase the untethered possibilities — it is possible that we could see it in Comex’s future jailbreak solution or as a package on Cydia.

Either way, definite progress is being made, which is a great thing for the community.

It’s getting closer folks, what do you think?

Sorry but I don’t get it. Showed us it on iPad 2wks ago now on iPod so obviously it works but why no release. Posixninja showed us one video it was out following week. I’m getting the feeling it’s guess wot I’ve got. Tease again

    • selcuk

Jeff clearly stated the reason why he isnt releasing. read before u make stupid comments, lol.

  • Sweet looks like progress. Can’t wait to jailbreak my iPad 2. These guys are the best.

  • Shane

Looks/sounds promising!! Take your time guys and get it right. We can wait for a few more weeks. Make sure there’s no crazy battery drain after JB’ing! 

  • Billy

I really like his point “c.” Every time a dev gives a date for a release then changes it (mostly for Apple firmware updates reason, not much else) all commenters actually give these devs crap.
Even though most of these idiots don’t have 1% of the knowledge required to develop this software.
I think the jailbreak “user community” is indeed nuts in that regard, and that people need to chill out when it comes to releases from these people. Not to even mention the fact that they do it FOR FREE.
It’s just ridiculous and completely understand and support this statement/feeling.

Well said, some of us are nothing more than spoiled brats. Reminds me of the release of Celeste (bluetooth app); when the developer failed to meet the release date for his app people started to call his project fake and him a fraud. Stupid people are stupid.

        Ron White said it best . . . . . . “Ya can’t fix stupid” *sigh*

some people feel they are “entitled” to these JB deals. Which is sad. They also have the patience of a gnat. What would happen if all of a sudden the JB community developers said “to hell with this, it aint worth it anymore” and just quit. Where would those “entitled” types go or do then.

I totally agree with ya man. I just thank the big guy upstairs that these guys dont charge for the hacks they develop.

So is the iPad 2 exploit patched on 4.3.1 or is it still open. If it’s closed would comex releas the jailbreak for the iPad 2 4.3?

  • Hugo

Thank god..untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.3.1 will be available soon..thanks to all developer..we appreciate your hard work..keep it up guys!! Thumbs up!!

  • :O

Does anybody understand how he unlocked his ipt under that piece of cardboard? o_O Is there a tweak for that? 😀

    • Diddyo

Try placing a sticky note on the screen for yourself and you will see that you can still slide to unlock..

      • :O

Holy Jesus C#@p your right! Now I love my iphone even more xD. World full of surprises.

  • F. B. I. Guy

The “E” in ETA is there for a reason 😉

  • Georg W. Bush

I don’t get all this, so will we see a Jailbreak for the iPad 2?

  • CBA

what a waste of 3:26 of my time. The guy could’ve shown it in 30 secs or less!! I seriously do not see the point in showing people what can be done without making it available. If you know you can JB the latest iOS but do not release it into the wild then whats the point?? – Is it a case of look at me, I’ve got the only JB 4.3.1 ipod touch in the world – woopee doo!

    Sounds like willy-waving to me

    • if there is no point for you, then you shouldn’t be reading this article… Get a life!

  • so many haters, ignorants, stupid ppl… Appreciate for what you get for FREE. Appreciate that all these JB devs are working hard for YOUR dumbass. You’ll get it when time is right. Be patient and be thankful.

  • Eduardo

I wish my phone fast like in the video… but I guess I can have too but only if I can have noting on it.

  • Lupin

Does anyone know if the battery drain issue was fixed in 4.3.1?

  • ramos96

Yes from all my testing on both an iPad2 and iPhone4, the issue has been resolved.

We should let JB developers do their jobs right and deliver good jailbreak quality for the whole community. Thumbs up for them! Apple can’t dominate the whole world!!!

  • DSA

Honestly, people are so bloody ignorant…..insulting the devs when you don’t have the ability to do the job yourselves. This is a good lesson to everyone out there on ‘entitlement’ (look it up for those of you that don’t understand the word). These guys do the work for free and make it available to those of us who simply enjoy the benefits of their hard work….apparently without a word of thanks.
This would be a GREAT time for those of you who are rude to apologize and then beg…….
Maybe if the devs get a heartfelt apology, we might see the benefits shown in the video clips.
(Just a thought….but groveling seems to be in order right about now.)
And btw, thanks – for the hard work on the part of all the devs. Not that I’ve benefited yet (this is my first iphone, and it’s a 4G with 4.2.1 and 03.10.01 – apparently unbreakable. So I”m NOT enjoying myself, nor is my phone much use.) If anyone has figured out how to JB this useless paperweight, PLEASE let me know. (I for one, am not above begging.)
