A couple of day ago, Alex told you about the rumors surrounding iOS 5, the iPhone 5, and more. Now it looks like some of those rumors are beginning to materialize.

Apple announced today that their annual Worldwide Developers Conference will kick off just a couple weeks shy of summer: June 6th.

The five day conference is a gathering of some of the biggest and brightest minds in the Apple development world, and in the past it has been ground zero for some of Apple’s biggest hardware unveilings as well.

This year, the big focus will of course be on Mac OS X Lion and another little release that goes by the name of iOS 5.

CUPERTINO, California-March 28, 2011-Apple® today announced that it will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) June 6 through June 10 at San Francisco’s Moscone West. At this year’s five-day conference Apple will unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS®, including exciting demonstrations of the new kinds of apps that developers can build using Apple’s advanced frameworks and more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers.

“At this year’s conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “If you are an iOS or Mac OS X software developer, this is the event that you do not want to miss.”

Activities at Apple’s WWDC 2011 include:

more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers on a wide range of technology-specific topics for developing, deploying and integrating the latest iOS and Mac OS technologies;

Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple has reinvented the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced iPad 2 which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices.

Unfortunately this means that we have to wait over two months before we get any details about iOS 5. But hey, at least we know when we can expect it to be unveiled.

The big questions remain; will Apple go ahead and show off the iPhone 5 as they did with the iPhone 4 last year? Will iOS 5 be delayed until fall as rumors suggest?

What do you think?

I’ve been saying this since the rumors of the iPhone 5 started… They’re not going to unveil the iPhone in the summer. Just wait and see.

    • JustSomeGuy

Oh, how wrong you are. Apple are trying to curtail the leaks they’ve been having recently. Yeah, they’re not ordering parts from their usual supply chain. The very chain that has shown time and time again they cannot be trusted. Apple have found a new supplier that are keeping their mouths shut. There will be an iPhone 5, and for the first time in awhile, we’re not going to know anything about it until it’s release. Just the way Steve wants it.

“There will be an iPhone 5, and for the first time in awhile, we’re not going to know anything about it until it’s release. Just the way Steve wants it.”

But I already know about it.
        Bigger screen, edge to edge.
        NFC payments built in.
        8mp Sony camera.
        Deeply integrated voice control.
        New maps.
        Cloud storage.
Oh yah. And it will be thinner!!
When the time comes I will remind you of this post and you shall be amazed by the accuracy of my predictions.

My guess is that the next iPhone will be released next year, so Verizon catches up.

  • I think they will unleash the iPhone 5 so that it will be available to the AT&T network. Verizon will catch up later the same way they did with the iPhone 4.

Who cares about american networks, release the phone when its ready!

    • Benz

I can agree with that. Im totally ready for it

    • Alec

The thing is its not ready, and apple is an american company and the last thing they wanna do is piss of their domestic counterparts AND their biggest customers.

  • Twited21

Call me crazy but I’m not going to buy ip5
I love my ip4 to much it’s perfect in every way I’m gonna wait until the uk 4g network rolls out and get a 4g ip8 lol

    • Benz

I currently have an iPhone 3GS. Dont get me wrong I like the iPhone 4 but I didnt want to buy it because its still a 3G phone. I thought it would be better to stick with my 3GS until the iPhone 5 comes out. I’d rather upgrade to a 4G phone

      • Mokin

Can’t wait for the battery drain it causes too I assume.

      • MrA

        I doubt iPhone 5 will be 4G.

  • Jim

You contradicted Alex. He reported that iOS5 will be pushed back until Fall ’11 and now you are saying that it’s going to release in June? Don’t you writers ever talk to eachother to make sure you aren’t contradicting eachother from post to post? I heard iPhone5 is going to release in May(from an internal source)

  • esquivo

    I’ve a 3GS and offcourse I’m awaiting for the iPhone 5 🙂

  • Luke

No iPhone 5, going to the cloud

  • Jasper

Rumors also said that iOS 5 was coming fall 2011… I don’t take those rumors very seriously until there is conformation from relyable sources like apple himself or WSJ or something.
