Last week we told you about the Gevey SIM which basically unlocks any iPhone 4. Today, a video confirms that the Gevey SIM can unlock any iPhone 4 on any iOS and any baseband. This means that if you have an iPhone 4 4.3 with baseband 04.10.01, the Gevey SIM will work for you too.

While this Gevey SIM card sounds like a miracle, it does come with a few drawbacks which might frighten some of you…

  • The legality of this method is questionable
  • You will have to cut your SIM card
  • You will have to repeat the activation process every time you reboot your iPhone

At $70, this looks like the only option to unlock your iPhone 4 for the time being. If you don’t have the money or prefer a software unlock, let’s wait to see what the Dev Team has up its sleeves.

Will you give it a try?

  • AMB

Hell no, this method is too much trouble. Always having to repeat this at every reboot, reminds me of a tethered jailbreak and we all know a tethered jailbreak is no comfortable thing.

I’ll be patient, the iPhone 4 WILL be unlocked one day there’s no doubt about it so I’m still waiting for the dev’s team software.

    • Jason Masters

I agree plus legality who cares when you need yourphone unlocked? What division of law enforcement oversees unlocks????? I hate when people discuss legality like they understand the law or as if there’s an imaginary police force to enforce the imaginary laws they are discussing about.

      • AMB

I never heard about unlocking a phone being illegal, though the void of a warranty might be understandable. But then again that would be with the phone’s manufacturer, not the service provider.

      • Mr.D

Call to 911 without good cause are illegal.

  • Jason Masters

I could have swore I heard one of them say something about jayz lol.

  • rifkin

i hope there will be a software based unlock soon ;D;D that would be a dream come true ;D haha
yea, don’t give up Dev Team..!

    • Tworok

The problem is that everybody is asking ionic musclenerd and the other dev team members now it seems they don’t care. Than we have takers like takesnow who says that got unlock for the unlockable basebands. Gevey works I’m using! unless u can afford 1100 on a factory unlock than use it until they come up with a way to unlock the phone.

  • drublic

I don’t see the dev team anywhere near finding an unlock, it could be months as far as we know… I’ve been waiting for an unlock since October, as soon as I know if this Gevey SIM works on my country, I’ll buy one…

    • rifkin

well, i don’t want this gevey, it’s so expensive. itäs better to sell my locked iphone and add this 50 dollars and buy officially unlocked iphone.. what a rip off..
i bought mine on 20th of Feb, day after my birthday and i thought now the unlock will come, because iOS 4.3 was sure to be launched, but now im sad.. when thinking that many people have been waiting unlock since October like you, then i can’t even imagine how depressed they can be !

    • Anh Phan

What country are you from? I think this tool works in all countries. The video above is from Vietnam, and there’s no emergency number 112 in Vietnam, but it still works when you dial that number. So I think 112 is the built-in number in the iPhone.

    • amit

      which country u from ?

      • Drublic

I’m from Costa Rica, just saw the other day on twitter that they are shipping the SIM here so it’s safe to say it works, I’ll wait ’till this weekend to hear some news from the dev team and buy the SIM next week if there is still nothing!

  • Greg

I already ordered this online, with a $53 dollar price tag. Well i don’t care about the price as long as i can use my i4. In my opinion about you guys, you can afford to but a $650 device and don’t want to pay extra 50 bucks just to unlock it? Come on guys, and legality? No one saying this illegal? Not everything is free in the real world ladies and gentlemen, i hope anyone will see that tot.

    • Nikolaj Pagh

      Hello.
Did it work out for you?

  • dude1

I’ve been waiting too long for the devteam and after 4.3 to come out they say woops its actually taking longer than expected…sorry. It’s like a kick in the face. I should of sold this iphone months ago if this was going to happen. Plus its only around 50 bucks. I’ll do it.

  • Tbv

The DEV team is clueless at this point about the unlock and may never come up with one. Those of you who want to wait for the DEV team, feel free to wait. But don’t get upset if they don’t come up with an unlock 6 more month from today. If they have not come up with an answer after 6 months, chances are, they never will.

  • Just go with AT&T lol.

    I promoted this comment!

  • anon

i applaud the dev team for their work, but none of you should buy an iphone with the latest update and hope for an unlock to come out soon. with every firmware update comes with very little room for play to unlock

  • Sotoy

112 is unlock number for iphone (maybe emergency # for some country, china?), 911 is emergency number in us.
$70 is worth buying instead of waiting forever. And its work for iphone 4 all baseband too.

    • Jason Masters

I agree 100% with you I mean we pay at least 300 or more for the phone and 70 is gonna kill us I’d pay it if I had to I’m planning on updating to 4.2 if I lose my baseband I would get the gevey I might even go to 4.3 and get it.

  • Tina

Hi, I’m a t- mobile customer I bought the iPhone 4, 4.1 can this phone be unlocked? And or where can I buy the Gevey Sim unlock? It will work with t-mobile here in the USA, please let me know if not I will put the iPhone 4 for sale. Can’t wait no longer bought phone 3 months ago and still waiting for dev team to come out with the software to unlocked it. Please let me know any suggestions. Thank you

  • Bk

You idiots can wait for dev team and I promise in six months+ they’ll still be empty handed. The legality issue is that you have to call an emergency number (maybe not actually connect) and this obviously isnt an emergency

    • Jason Masters

If it doesn’t connect then what’s the legality? There is none it’s just something people say.

  • none

yeah lets wait for dev team , we`ve been waiting for 6-7 months now …last week said updates will come at the end of the week ..and when the updates came ..big surprise there were no updates …one guy asked and he said updates are in my last tweet and in his last tweet it said trying to cover all bases before trying ..you just said a week ago that you were trying and posting the results at the end of the week …

i dont have anything against dev team , i really appreciate their hard work but when you don`t have something just say it don`t talk in riddles so that people wouldn`t know what to do ..i will buy the gevey sim allthough its really overpriced for what it is ..but that`s the price of buying a locked phone i guess ..
    all the best

    • Greg

^totaly agreed on the last part.. Nothing againts the Dev Team tho.

  • Xtian

it really works!! im using my iphone4 (t-mobile) now.. i paid $75 installed(they cut my sim as well)

    • Jason Masters

Did you have to send your sim in or you went to a store if so can you tell me what store does that service?

  • aque2001

It works on US tmobile iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 bb 3.10.01. Had to run through the steps a few times but I got it working.

Yes if you reboot the ip4 you have to redo the process which is easy dial 112 for 2 seconds, hang up, turn on then off airport mode and your done.

Like many of you I waited a long time for this. I don’t know when the free unlock will be out…..if ever! This gevey allows us to actually use the ip4 before it becomes extinct waiting for a free unlock.

I recommend it! Unless you like having your ip4 as a paperweight.

  • smson

I have the Gevey SIM unlock for my iPhone 4 4.2.1 baseband 03.10.01 and I have to tell you how amazing this little gadget works! It works flawlessly once it is activated on reboot and continuously working without dropping signal or without the need to reactivate as long as you do not turn off the phone. Once it is activated on reboot, you can turn your airplane mode on and off and it will still be activated for making and receiving calls. In other words, you’ll only need to do the 112 trick once each time when you restart your iphone 4. As long as your iPhone 4 is on and you’ve done the 112 activation it will remain unlocked for as long as it hasn’t been restarted no matter if you turn on and off the airplane mode or run any other apps. Whenever I restart my iphone I’d have to do the 112 trick but it takes less than 20 seconds.

I’ve a very good advice to you people who want to wait for Dev Team’s unlock and who doesn’t want to buy this little jewel. You might as well sell your locked iphone and save the money to buy an unlock one because all of their promises to unlock the iphone since October 2010 are all BULLSHIT! I’ve been waiting painstakingly long since that time to unlock my iPhone and The Dead Team can never find a way to get that done for 1/2 year, That’s six months without able to use this iphone 4 to make call! That’s why I jump right onto the Gevey wagon and got myself the hardware unlock on March 21st 2011 and feel totally free from jail sentence.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best!

  • Beeboo

I got mines on Friday and was kinda skeptical about it but turns out it actually worked. This is only my temporary solution until the dev team come out with there nck unlock. To anyone that has been waiting and tired of it, you should get it.

  • Keith

Just buy a damn iPhone from outside America. Singapore, Australia, etc are all unlocked. Sheesh.

    • Jason Masters

Sure you got a trustworthy source to buy these DAmned IPhones?

    • Drublic

A factory unlocked iphone costs around $900-$1000 on ebay, and a regular locked one around $450-$500, so u have to spend twice for the phone, thats way everyone prefers to buy a locked one, but I guess you don’t have a problem spending twice as much for an iphone

  • Bala

I got mine for usd54 and give a new life to my i4. Easy n gud

  • Question

Can I use gevey sim to unlock 2 iphone4 4.2.1

  • Question

Is it 100% true to unlock iphone4 4.2.1,

  • Tworok1

I’m using it I now. And is a fact that dialing 112 connects u to 911 even if ur sim card is not active I tried it with T-mobil and Simple carriers sim that I bought off eBay. well let’s see what heppens. I know 4 years ago a guy got charge for dialing 911 about 20 times in a month.

  • Barber Gang

im have iPhone 4 on 4.3.2. baseband 04.10.01….will this work for me and if so better believe im buying it because it will be worth EVERY penny.

    Someone Answer PLZ….

  • alukado

I bought this via http://www.slickgate.com/_p990.html for $10 and it worked perfectly on my ip4 with baseband 03.10.
Just pop in the sim w/gevey and then wait for it to load up, it gives you the instructions on the screen, hit accept, dail 112 wait till the screen changes and then count to 3 after that hang up and turn on airplane mode and wait till it says no SIM (pop up) and then turn off airplane mode, you get a few more pop ups and then bham its unlocked until you restart.

Been waiting tooooo long for an unlock. Bought the iPhone 4 as a gift for my fiancé, and I didn’t know it couldn’t be unlocked. Now he has an iPhone 4 he can’t use.

    QUESTION:
-Where can I buy a Gevey SIM?
-Also, does the Gevey SIM work in conjunction with a T-Mobile or Simple Mobile SIM? Or is it it’s own SIM card. In other words, once I buy it can I just take it to T-Mobile and have them hook it up? Or do I need a T-Mobile SIM as well and somehow combine the two.

I think I’m going to get one, I don’t really have a choice if I want the iPhone 4 to be usable… And as much as I love the Dev Team, I highly doubt there will be an unlock anytime this year. $70 isn’t a bad price to pay, considering I just spent $400 on the phone.

    One more Question:
Must the iPhone 4 be jailbroken for the Gevey SIM to work? Or can you have a non-jailbroken iPhone?

    • Drublic

The gevey sim can be bought on ebay and amazon, just need to be careful you don’t buy a fake one. To be sure you can buy it directly at the applenberry.com website that is the ones who made it, you can use paypal and now they cost half price.
And no need to JB the iphone but definetly recommend you do!

Thank you so much Drublic! And I do plan to jailbreak it at some point, as mine is jailbroken and it’s the only way to go ; ) But most importantly I just want it to work!

  • emp9

the gevey works great and its not illegal you hang up before the call goes through you are not hanging up on 911.

  • Masood Sharif

Its now £5.99 at DealExtreme. Although if you are in the Ukmand on T-Mobile with an iPhone 4 on 4.3.2 then dont bother. It doesnt work. I have managed to get it to work on Tesco Mobile UK so should work on O2 too.

  • Masood Sharif

    Oops, that should read $5.99.

  • Jose

It Works on Iphone 4, 4.2.1 baseband 03.10.1, tethered greenpoison jailbreak,

Just make sure you have the 3g off, turn data on, turn rooming on, restart your iphone with the regular metod using redsn0w, now wait until you see the message click accept

You will see the ¨no service¨ wait until you see one signal bar, now make the call to 112, wait 2 to 4 seconds and hangup

    Now turn airport on,
    Turn it back off,
you will than see a message ¨SIM failure or No SIM Card¨just click ok

    Again turn airport on
you´ll see the message again, click ok
    turn airport off (yes again)

and Listo you got it now

Now do it slow, there is no rush we all waited long months for an unlock and we never had it, now we do, so take it easy, go get a drink a Corona will be Great, let the stress go out and enjoy.
