I think we all assumed that AT&T would support the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot feature that comes bundled with iOS 4.3, but its availability has been confirmed by an AT&T spokesperson.

As we informed you yesterday, iOS 4.3 will makes its way to the public on the same day that the iPad 2 is released.

AT&T spokesperson Seth Bloom has confirmed that the company’s Personal Hotspot support will go live once Apple makes iOS 4.3 available on March 11…

Unfortunately, using the Personal Hotspot feature will come at a price, as Bloom confirmed that “…customers will need to subscribe to the DataPro 4GB/$45 tethering data plan.” That’s pretty comparable to what Verizon is charging to use the Hotspot feature.

That’s means it’s a whole lot of coin to be able to tether your laptop to your iPhone. If you’re a jailbreaker, I definitely recommend checking out MyWi on demand; it’s a bit pricey up front, but it’s only a one-time fee.

Will you be using the Personal Hotspot come March 11? Or will you be sticking with another solution?

As I have an unlimited plan with AT&T, I wouldn’t leave that to become capped under 4GB. I’ll stick to MyWi, considering I use 15GB/mo…

  • old tom

mywi and ios 4.1 are doing quite nicely on my iphone 4. why wreck whats working flawlessly for something that gets capped and costs more?

  • Anthony L

Ok I’m a bit confused…how do I use mywi on my iPhone 4 without a tethering plan via AT&T? Someone please help! I can be reached @ lockettal73@gmail.com

jailbreak your phone with instructions on this site for your specific firmware.
sign in to cydia and buy miwi, either use usb, wifi or bluetooth( which i can never get to work)
      and start using the interweb

    • Jj

U might want to start from the beginning. Strart with jailbreaking 101

  • john

haha, good luck with that price and package, its free to jailbreak and miwi was 20 $ when i bought it i havent looked to see if it has gone up. but after last months 140gb usage i highly doubt ill buy 4 gb for 45 dollars !!!!

    • john

my fault. just looked up my bill 304.8 gb used not 140gb

I’m pretty sure you’re full of shit or the MPAA/RIAA is going to own you some day and here’s why:

        Assumptions: 1)The national average AT&T 3G speed is 1.769Mbps. 2)You mean 304.8GB. 3)30days in a month 4)Average Netflix HD stream is 4800kbps

        304.8GB/mo*1s/1.769Mb*8b/1B*1024M/1G*1hr/3600s = 392 hr/mo of full bore downloading = 13hr/day

The only way this would be possible is if you’re simply using your phone as your complete house Internet everyday AND you’re downloading illegally. To stream HD Netflix to hit 304.8GB would take 148 hours (5 hours every single day).

So that said, which are you doing to get that high?

      • soccerkrzy

You can ignore the Netflix streaming comment since you’re still capped at speed by the 3G speed.

You’re using 13 hours every single day of the month of full-bore downloading, which I think is a complete lie…

      • John

How about, neither. It also counts uploading. Last month well actually Jan-feb I had some of my own hd video that I shared with family and friends from across the country . After downloading movies from family members I assembled a pretty hefty 10.5 gb video .. Then shared the finished product with the family and family close friends . Along with that and Internet usage and a couple Netflix videos u get that total, u leave your email and I’ll send you a screen shot if you don’t believe me . The previous month before that was 80gb and the previous 6 months avgs was 14gb

My bad for assuming you regularly use 304GB, I’m just curious as to what your AT&T speed is to do that. My math still isn’t wrong, to do all those transfers would take ~390 hours.

      • John

My fastest downloads were around 800kb/s and uploading about 250-300kb/s you weren’t wrong I would literally have to run it sometimes from 5pm-630am .. It was a pain in the ass.. I was just the center of a collaborative video project and I took the hit

  • sOleFresh

Dam….and i thought i was high in data usage at 15GB.

  • Jj

Lmfao!!! 45 bucks!?!?! Miwi all the way!! I hate att!!!

  • Thomas

    …And that’s why I bought a mobile internet card from Comcast…

  • Woh. too much interesting information

In Canada, all the carriers let you use the personal hotspot feature for free. You just need your whatever data plan is, and… ya, hotspot time.
