AT&T CEO Caught Gulping Down a Whole Jug of Apple Flavored Haterade

by Jeff Benjamin on Feb 17, 2011

What an extraordinary flip-flop. Now AT&T has bad things to say about Apple’s App Store? Where was this public bemoaning over the past few years? Where was the outcry while AT&T was reaping the financial benefits of an exclusive relationship with Apple in the US?

Now that Apple has diversified its portfolio with the advent of the Verizon iPhone 4, AT&T’s CEO is caught waffling on his love…

iPhone Nano Concept – “Squeeze” to Close Apps

by Alex Heath on Feb 17, 2011

There have been multiple rumors surfacing lately that Apple is working on a smaller iPhone “Nano.” The device is rumored to have a smaller form factor and use cloud-based storage (possibly in accordance with a revamp of MobileMe).

iPhone Nano concepts have been floating around since the rumors gained traction, and a design concept by Max Rudberg stands out from the rest. Max runs Max Themes, and has developed popular jailbreak themes (such as Glasklart and Serious SBSettings).

Max came up with a very interesting concept for how a smaller iPhone Nano could operate without a home button…

Firewall iP 2.0 Released in Cydia, A Security Center for the iPhone

by Alex Heath on Feb 17, 2011

Privacy on the iPhone has always been an interesting topic. Especially in the jailbreak scene, security precautions are taken very seriously.

Firewall iP recently received a major update in the Cydia store, and it boasts robust security options for your iPhone’s network connections. While its features may seem daunting to those of us that aren’t security aficionados, it’s nice to see that there’s a full-featured security suite for jailbreak users…

iPhone 4 Named “Phone of the Year” At MWC

by Kickstar13 on Feb 16, 2011

While Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry, they also host a Global Mobile Awards ceremony as well. The purpose of the Global Mobile Awards is to give credit to the best mobile companies, devices, and software.

This year’s “Phone of the Year” winner, was (unsurprisingly) none other than Apple’s iPhone 4. The GSMA nominees for “Phone of the Year” included the iPhone 4, the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Desire, along with the LG Optimus 7 running Windows Phone 7 and the BlackBerry Torch 9800. Here’s what the judges’ had to say: Read More

Verizon iPhone Hacked to Work in China

by Sebastien on Feb 16, 2011

You technically can’t use a CDMA iPhone in China but according to this WSJ article, a few China Telecom employees managed to get the Verizon iPhone to make its first call from China.

The group of hackers that call themselves the Apple Lab Team posted this image of a Verizon iPhone on a Twitter-like site in China, commenting that the “CDMA iPhone 4 has made its first call in China”… Read More

Apple Posts Differences Between CDMA and GSM iPhone 4

by Kickstar13 on Feb 16, 2011

Yesterday, we posted a data speed comparison, comparing AT&T and Verizon networks. While Verizon seemed to do better than AT&T in every way (in the San Francisco area, at least), it looks like the Verizon iPhone has some shortcomings as well.

Although we missed it, it seems that Apple had posted a comparison chart last week, detailing the differences between the GSM and CDMA versions of the iPhone. This comparison chart solely focuses on how the GSM and CDMA versions of the iPhone handle calls… Read More

How to Get Around Apple’s iBooks Anti-Jailbreaking Measures

by Jeff Benjamin on Feb 16, 2011

Yesterday I told you about Apple’s efforts to thwart jailbreakers by blocking them from opening DRM enabled books in iBooks. Safe to say, that didn’t go over well with you, or the rest of the jailbreak community.

Unsurprisingly, various work arounds were ordered and quickly achieved, and we’ll discuss one of those fixes here; it’s simple as all get out.

MobileMe Scheduled to Receive Significant Update, Live Video Streaming?

by Jeff Benjamin on Feb 16, 2011

I’ve always lamented over the high price of MobileMe when compared to the benefits derived from Apple’s cloud service. Needless to say, MobileMe has fallen behind in recent years in terms of usefulness. Well, if the latest rumors are anything to go by, expect big changes to MobileMe in the near future.

These changes include the already discussed cloud service for the rumored iPhone Nano, along with a host of other changes like video streaming à la Ustream, location awareness like Foursquare, and other interesting tidbits.

Who said MobileMe was past its prime?

Verizon iPhone Sales Lower Than Expected

by Sebastien on Feb 16, 2011

I’m not going to say that I told you so, but you know, I kinda did. One of BGR‘s sources at Apple shared some interesting numbers about Verizon iPhone sales on its first week, and apparently, the numbers are lower than both Apple and Verizon anticipated.

If that’s any indication of the sales trend, BGR’s source states that there were about 550,000 iPhone 4 pre-ordered between Verizon and Apple and maybe even more interesting are the sales numbers for 5 Apple Store combined on the first week, including 2 major stores (most likely including the iconic Apple Store on Fifth avenue)… Read More
