GreenPois0n Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 Released

After weeks of talks, wait, and rumors, the Chronic Dev Team finally came through with the release of their GreenPois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1.

Up until now, there was no other solution but use a beta version of RedSn0w, which let’s be honest, wasn’t very stable. I don’t know if this release will be better than RedSn0w as there isn’t much information about this version of GreenPois0n so far.

All we know is that it works with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and iPhone running iOS 4.2.1. Even better, unlike RedSn0w, you won’t need to have your 42b3 SHSH blobs saved in order for GreenPois0n to work. One thing is for sure, this version of GreenPois0n will not hacktivate your iPhone. So far, only a Mac version is available.

    I jailbroke my apple 3gs ios 4.2.1 after i jailbroke i did by mistake factory resting and my iphone froze
    now i cant get any further then the screen with the silver apple.
    Please give me suggestion

      put in dfu and restore with itunes to original settings. your phone data will be erased

      I had this happen whenever I jailbroke my phone with the ios 4.1. I had to reload the hardware and drivers, and then I was able to try again. I actually had to do this twice, but I did finally jailbreak my phone. I haven’t, however, tried to do the new jailbreak, but I will be doing that very soon. I hope that this helps.

      Plug your phone into your computer and hold the power and home button until your screen shows the apple cord and the computer.. Then just reset to factory and use your backup to reload your phone

    3GS new bootrom updated to 4.2.1 and jailbroken with RC5. Stable, running fine. Did it for my friend’s 3GS 3.1.3 -> 4.2.1 too. His got the blank white screen with JB failed, just restore and do it again. It worked for him

    Can you update to the ipad baseband with this to allow for an unlock after the jailbreak? Or would you have to use redsnow, update the baseband, then restore then use greenpoision? Also if you have already have jailbroke with redsnow (tethered) can you just jailbreak with this, or do you need to restore it first with itunes?
    Any info would be very helpful, I’ve unlocked before but can’t seem to find this info in the tutorial. Most importantly can you update the baseband with greenpoision to 6.15.00 so it can be unlocked?

    hey guys i jailbroke my phone yesterday iphone 4 4.2.1 and everything was good until i linked my cydia account and downloaded a few things then cydia opens but none of my packages are there and it wont let me download or look for anything…. any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

    Worked perfectly for me. iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 with lots of mods. The only thing that failed was qtweeter (not updated for 4.2.1).

      you jb a ipad 4.2.1 with green poison rc5 ?….on a mac or win os, because i’ve done it 3 times with xp and keep getting failed, and my help is getting upset bc i’m yelling at them.

    @UKUS2015 – This doesn’t work for the 3G version. I’m actually surprised you got it to recognize the phone was in DFU. In the README file, it doesn’t list 3G as one of the phones this JB works for. It’s 3GS and higher

      Pam … I noticed that omission in the read me … but there are several places insisting the greenpoison will JB the 3G… with 4.2.1

      I dunno. I keep trying. Some have the fail screen … my greenpoison just says “Try again?”

      I don’t think I’m getting it into this DFU deal even though I’m following the sequence precisely.

      One youtube vid has the guy doing the DFU before doing anything w/ the greenpoison …

      I’m lost … need help/advice … something. I’m about to go get me a iphone 4! GRRR.

      I gotta have MiWi! It’s criminal this isn’t part of the data plan! :^O

        Al, GP isn’t recognizing that the 3G and under go into DFU mode. That’s the problem, I *think*. I’ve tried going into DFU before and during, without success. I’m just hoping Rubyra1n comes out this week :) I had updated my phone to 4.2.1 because the thread said it worked on 3G, so now I’m kind of screwed until something else comes out.

    I ve got a question about battery drain after GP? I ve made full cycle recharge yesterday. After 20 min of Angry Birds i have 55% (brightnes about 60%, no 3G, No location – only Wifi) Anyone have such a problem?

    my phone froze on silver apple screen after redsn0w jailbrake, then dowloaded greenpois0n and jailbroke again perfectly back to exactly how all my settings were i.e 5 column springboard and HD icons etc, brilliant well done greenpois0n!

    had a whole bunch of issue but theres a trick. Try the redsnow dfu jailbreak and stop it in dfu mode. then run the greenpoison. Failed for me a million times, just kept restarting the phone to white screen. I got into dfu mode, with sn0w, then reset dfu in the middle of sn0w, then simply ran green poison while still in dfu, and it instantly started working. Im using vista. iphone 3gs Just keep experimenting with dfu mode, its tricky to get the timing correct and get it to actually work, but it will.

    Mine, 3GS. After jailbreak using GP RC5, but the baseband remained 05.15.04. Is it normal? Or is it because of that, Ultrasn0w doesn’t work for unlocking on mine?

    I am using Mac.
    tried 1000 times and it kept saying “failed”.
    but finally I solved it.

    but the point is “dont open the app by double click the .app”,
    run it from console:
    sudo open /Applications/greenpois0n.app/Contents/MacOS/greenpois0n

    OK, HOW? iPhone 3G does not pick up DFU, and you are saying right here that it works? I’m running it in compatability mode for XP sp2 to no avail! Tell us how it works please!

    Come on, Iphone JB is easy.. who JB before, just run this greenpoison and it should be done, no more plugging to restart your iphone 4.
    Please release unlock for Iphone 4 BB 30.10.01

    On Iphone 4, 4.2.1.. Jailbroke it with green poison rc5 last week. Jailbroken easily and successfully. The firstly, cant find the appsync under hackulo. Used sinful.. Doesnt work.. Cant sync to my itunes at all.. Today, my phone crashed and I had to restore the phone.. =\ Anybody else with the same prob?

      I keep seeing this question…I used RedSn0w & GP and I’m not having to bad of a drain, ESP when I bring the screen lighting down.

    What version of Itunes do you have? You need at least 10.1.1 to sync to 4.2.1

    Hackulo’s Appsync is there for me… I use the xSellize version though…

    iPhone 3G DOESN’T work, it’s not included in the readme, use redsn0w for tethered jailbreak for now. Works flawlessly. I know for sure that it doesn’t work because redsn0w lets you “just enter DFU mode” and that works no problem, then loading greenpois0n simply doesn’t recognize DFU mode. That’s the final answer guys.

    Actually iam new on this. I’ve jb my ip4 4.2.1 but i do not know how to use it. What is the use of jb actually? One fren told me that it use to dload paid apps for free. Is it true? How to dload thru Cydia?

      Hi Jai,
      Jailbreaking allows you to install 3rd party apps which are not controlled by Apple.
      Your friend is referring to Installo.us which you can install through Cydia. This will let you download apps for free, although you should BUY apps you like in order to support developers and encourage other developers to release quality apps, and only ise Installou.us to TRY apps and see if you like them. This was the original aim of the small hacking community, although today most people (kids) abuse this privilege. So have some respect and give something back to the community or else one day it might not be available anymore. This goes to all you free-riders out there. Peace.

        You have it kind of right, it goes a little deeper than apps. It’s about freedom, and allowing the user to install the third party apps so he can customize his or her own ilife.
