iPhone iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Showcased by Chronic Dev Team

Well, well, well. It looks like someone else is getting into the untethered jailbreak fun for iOS 4.2.1. That’s right, today Chronic Dev Team unveiled a teaser video showcasing their untethered jailbreak for the iPhone.

Chronic Dev, the creators of the popular GreenPois0n jailbreak tool, are the same devs behind this upcoming tool for iOS 4.2.1, but they aren’t alone in the rush to untether Apple’s latest public firmware.

As you know, the Dev Team has been working on beta versions of RedSn0w that is also capable of jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 untethered.

The more options, the merrier! Check inside for the sweet video details…

By the way, for those of you that’ve spotted something weird in the video, @pod2g can explain.

Now that we’ve seen it in action, a release date can’t be that far away.

      According to @pod2g on his Twitter, that is a known bug. The wifi is actually there, but not showing an icon.

      As p0sixninja said, the last bug to release it is wifi bars, they don’t show up. When they fix that, they will release ;)

      It’ll likely be like previous GP releases… i.e. final, but still subject to a few bugs here and there of course. Technically I guess all JB’s are “beta” if you will, but this should satisfy the majority.

    So what happens if a bug is found and they put out a new version? Do you have to completely restore your JB? Heck Im still not sure if I have to completely restore (and lose all my app data) my iPhone just for updating to 4.2.1 JB.

        The thing that gets me is, the jailbreakers are doing this for FREE to make our iphones better and yet people are complaining they are taking WAY too long to do it. Not sure if people realize the coding involved is doing this kind of stuff, and to do it for FREE, and receive no appreciation from the end users boggles my mind.

    I have my phone jailbroken via redsn0w, tethered. What is the procedure to change over to this? Being new to the world of jailbreaking phones, I really would rather not have my phone crash a gazillion times and would appreciate the know how from all of you who know how :-)

    Krissy, there is no “official” untethered for 4.2.1 unless you already have the SHSH blobs from 4.1. If you are already on 4.2.1 you have to play the waiting game. Yet they have already JB 4.3 nor has that surfaced. ;)

    This is just pre bullshit … I have been waiting for what seems like two months for the 4.2 .1 jailbreak…….. These people are making money from selling apps from the Cyrus store or jail broken devices …. So WTF is going on… It’s beyond pathetic and makes me think that no one has a clue and that e are fitting around waiting for dome 13-year old ” programmer” to stop masturbating long enough to get this damned thing out … What a complete joke

      You don’t need to use an iPhone genius. If you want to customize get android. The dev team does all this for free too. The devs release when they release. It’s people like you that I hope they don’t release the jb.

      You DO realize, don’t you, that you CAN JailBreak your iPhone RIGHT NOW?

      Sure, you have to be connected to your Mac/PC to reboot it, but seriously, HOW OFTEN do you reboot your iPhone?

      Let be re-phrase that: How often do you HAVE to reboot your iPhone?

      I’ve jailbroken my iPhone 4 (yes, with 4.2.1) and other than ONE app from Cydia that required a reboot after loading – I haven’t had to reboot my iPhone-4 at all.

      Everything’s working fine (WiFi, Bluetooth, everthing) – and I have not had a single dropped call (not to suggest that the JailBreak had anything to do with that).

      SO, either JailBreak it NOW, or sit back and WAIT (like everyone else) for the Untethered Jailbreak.

      Then again, I guess YOU could just go back to YOUR masturbating.

      Yes; there are several apps that save “all the jailbroken stuff from Cydia.” I like PkgBackup, one of the best save/restore Cydia app.

      Ofcause you got to jailbreak first … You need to learn abit more about jailbreaking / unlocking before you do anything ! There is post on thus site that can help you . Read before you do anything.. Then read again..

    redsn0w 0.9.7b6 does it very well for iphone 4 and 3gs without a glitch since two weeks ago ! what’s all the fuzz about ? only if it added the iPad would be a big deal !

    Why wait, 4.3 isn’t gonna do anything that jailbreaking doesn’t do? I’ve been good at not updating my software but I just got a new 4 and im stuck! Lol… I’m happy whenever I get to get it, just was never sure about the waiting game… But that’s why im not smart enough to be a DEV! Thanks for the work, I’ve enjoyed my iPhone way more because of it!!!

    Rumor has it, Moday will be the day they release greenpois0n for 4.2.1 . I will wait like the rest of us, hopefully it will be a valid rumor. But if not, oh well ….. just wait longer….LMAO.
    What choice do I have? I never saved my 4.1 SHSH because I was too late, whatever that means. But I still have my 4.1 Jailbroken, just can’t restore it if I update to 4.2.1 because of the lame signature signing period, I just so happen to have missed! Wonder howcome I can’t save my SHSH manually? TinyUmbrella only saved blobs for the future upgrade and the 4.3 beta. Oh well, time will tell wether I should go to 4.2.1 or stay at 4.1.

      Apple have to sign your SHSHs.. When a new firmware come out apple stop signing the old firmware after about 1 week , so all you get is the new SHSH.
      In you case 4.2.1… Even though your on 4.1

      that site is a fraudulent one and it has no connection to Geohot at all. It actually belongs to someone in China (there was a story on it on some other site pointing all this out).

      Don’t use that site at all. Nobody seems to know what the real purpose is except maybe as a cheap Chinese crap knockoff hawking site. Bad news all the way around.

    I wish we would all quit yelling at each other, we are all here for the same reason, we are all right and all wrong at the same time, yes they are providing free for us, yes we have been waiting a bit, and yes we have a right to complain because its been more than 1 missed projection after another and another, I will be grateful when 4.2.1 untethered comes out, I spent 400.00 and have a right to complain. they have a right to take as long as they want, you see, everyone is right. chill everyone, peace.

      Let me see if I get this… Because YOU bought an iPhone (400.00 [whatever currency that it]), you think THAT gives you a RIGHT to complain about a JailBreak that you’re spending 0.00 on?

      Perhaps, if you sent that 400.00 to the JailBreak DEVELOPERS (you know, the ones who are trying to make the iPhone do what the guys who you gave the 400.00 to DIDN’T make it do), then they MIGHT be motivated to finish the JailBreak!
