iPhone 3G on BaseBand 06.15.00 Unlocked for Life

By , Jan 17, 2011

It’s official. If you have an iPhone 3G on baseband 06.15.00 and you are unlocked , you better get comfortable. MuscleNerd confirmed in a recent tweet that since the iPhone 3G will not be receiving the 4.3 firmware upgrade, your iPhone 3G will remain unlocked indefinitely.

Now let’s not all panic, this only affects iPhone 3G users on the above mentioned baseband. If you are unsure of your baseband version, you can go to settings -> general -> about -> modem firmware.  For most of us this isn’t a huge deal, but to iPhone 3G users who unlocked using the 06.15 UltraSnow unlock, and have been experiencing GPS issues, this is devastating…

For 3GS users experiencing problems, The Dev Team is definitely aware of the GPS issue, and currently working on a way to downgrade your baseband with iOS version 4.3.

Do you have your 3G or 3GS unlocked and little or no GPS functionality? What are your thoughts on your iPhone being stuck unlocked forever? Sound off in the comments section below!

It’s a Damn shame. These guys are already working on a new Jailbreak for 4.3 when they should fix the misstakes from other jailbreaks first. they royally failed on this Unlock! Nice that I can use the phone but then I should be able to use everything that is on the phone. Sorry your Electric windows don’t work but we’ll fix it when the next model comes out, be happy at least the door works.

    • AreUKiddingME

Are you kidding? Please. Let’s not forget that any jailbreaking and/or unlocking actions, and the ultimate consequences of said actions, falls solely and completely on the person doing the deed.
The dev team(s) give us options, and it seems to me that I see more complaining than much of anything else on these blogs.
These people don’t ask to be paid for what they provide to us. Although, it’s awfully nice if even a few donate. But still, how on Earth does this all somehow become their fault? Good grief, Apple it pushing out updates round the clock anymore, and every iphone owner wants their j/b or unlock “NOW, Dammit!”. Go figure out the fix yourself, if it’s supposed to be so damn easy.

I just can not believe how ungrateful some people can be out there.

Seriously…you want a phone you can get GPS on, GO GET A NEWER ONE since you voluntarily chose to risk messing up your OLD one.

Your analogy of electric windows suggests you bought your 3G from the devs already unlocked on 06.15.00. Makes ZERO sense.
More like “sorry your windows don’t work, but next time you get a new toy, don’t mess with the hardware.”

      Have a nice day.

      • Armando

        Amen to than.

      • Jj

        Yup

      • jcprosser

        True that!!!!

      • Delmar_Sproule

I have potentially good news for all you GPSless iphone 3G (and maybe 3GS) users. I sold my phone on e-bay because of the GPS issue and before shipping, used the Setting / General / Reset / Erase All Content and Settings to wipe my phone. Not surprisingly, I got stuck in recovery mode and restore on itunes didn’t work, even with the correct custom firmware. Then I found this video on youtube for a related problem : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I1dNq5g3Kk&feature=relmfu and I followed the instructions exactly (including uploading the two versions of firmware from the instruction links and not using the revision I had used to originally jailbreak). Not only did the phone come back but so did the GPS!!!! Now I regret selling it on ebay where I declared the GPS was not functionning! The bottom line is that there is hope.

    • zhan

please … don’t say that thing to them … their are the best among the best to develope this …take time dou

    • j heeze

AreuKiddingMe stole words right out of my mouth. who raised all of these shockingly self-entitled and ungrateful people? if you wanted your phone to work perfectly, you should have waited. your decision, your problem. when was it ever claimed that jailbreaking was flawless, or even safe for that matter?

props to all of the dev team players. most of us *do* appreciate what you do, very much.

  • Eric

@marc thats the thing about jailbreaking tho. If you could do better why dont you? Your iphone works as advertised from Apple right? Well dont hate on the Devs they have their hands full with all these different devices and firmware and basebands apple releases all the time.

  • djh

I can understand their focus as they have to split their time across multiple devices but I am struggling without the gps. I am sure that attention will switch to the gps fix after the 4.3 jailbreak but with the news that 4.3 could be in April this could mean a long wait!

  • luc

Does the battery problem has been fix with this baseband ive been more on xda those weeks . . . And my 3G was suffering from battery drain due to hactivation on this baseband and i didnt find if this was fix with redsnow or something else by the time . If im stuck with this batery drain im selling it right away. . .

    • Burge

You Neenah sam ..it’s in Cydia

      • luc

XD I did give my 3gs to my gf and buy myself a sgs low price. . . Anyway whats the tweak name?

      • Burge

Sorry about that .. It’s called SAM

Marc you’re an idiot. You took the risk. Be grateful your kind ignitions even got the unlock.

Thank jeebus Apple keeps releasing updated firnware – it gives the dev team a new project to work on and sliver out of their current buggy projects. *is happy with canadian bought – forever unlocked – iphone 4*

  • w2rl0rd

I feel as if there’s a misinterpretation here.

MuscleNerd says the iPhone 3G is unlocked forever because there is no iOS 4.3 beta for it, meaning there cannot be any corresponding baseband update.

This doesn’t, however, suggest there cannot be a baseband downgrade (which should solve the GPS issues). After all, the current baseband downgrade for iPhone 3G is a Cydia package by the name of Fuzzyband. If a new baseband downgrade is implemented, it very well could occur the same way.

So, like I said, iOS 4.3 jailbreak and baseband downgrade (or GPS fix) are not necessarily one and the same.

  • Marty

NOOOOO, NO iPhone 3G 4.3 FW?? GOD DAMN YOU!!!
    I WANT IT SO MUCH, or a 3GS or 4 lol :D
:( :( This is very sad day for me

  • http://www.marcidiot.com MarcIsIdiot

Yes, Agreed… Marc is idiot…. The chioce is yours… Apple give you a good phone, dev team provide a tool, but never force anyone to use their tool…. It’s your choice to use it…. They even provided tool with warning on it, now you teke the risk then stop complain… Enjoy your broken ‘window’ as you decided to broke it. stupid!

  • chico

I think you are all idiots. Just because the devs do everything for free does it mean they’re god? No!
A lot of people updated their devices and unlocked even before they found the GPS problem. I think it would be nice to see them fixing it. And I believe someone will come up with a solution one day.
I have an iPhone 4 so I’m not worried about what they will do… I just think is wrong to do what Apple is already doing.

  • Matt

GeoHot and Comex ” Rule The World ” ….Dev Team just let you hang in there , like i4 has not been unlock and untethered JB yet

  • Demetrios

I love my iPhone 3g.. I bought a gps because of this issue.. Problem solved.. But its still slow response on iOS 4.1 06.15.00.

  • Eric

@chico if you buy an AT&T iphone then you bought a LOCKED phone. If it were not for these devs there would be no UNLOCK so if you really really need an unlock, buy a FACTORY UNLOCKED PHONE simple as that, dont complain when your device wont work on another carrier that it was not designed to work on. No they are not “GOD” as you say but they are human beings and should be treated as such. If you think its so easy to “FIX” the GPS issue then you fix it!

    • Chico

I live in Australia mate. Unlocked iPhone 4 ;)
And I think people didn’t get it. I’m not ungrateful. I actualy really appreciate what they do and that’s why I’m saying that I believe they will come up with a solution even though now sounds they won’t. I just don’t thing they’re god that’s all and as I said before when they release the unlock was initially (for the ones that don’t remember) safe. After a lit a people actualy done it that was when they decide to say it wasn’t safe anymore.
I still think it would be nice of them (and I believe it will happen) to create a way back for those poor users that already dis the process.

  • yar0n0v

I agree with w2rl0rd. I think it’s misinterpretation of musclenerd.

    The full Tweet are:
    1. BB downgrade is actually a little more complex than just unlock, because if it crashes halfway through, you brick your radio.
    2. however, Apple decided (see 4.3b1) not to chase the 3GS BB version # past iPad 06.15, and they aren’t even doing 4.3 for 3G…and so it’s turned into the best possible outcome for current 3G/3GS 06.15 unlock, & future downgrade potential.
    3. Because there’s no 4.3 beta for iPhone3G, it’s effectively unlocked for life via the 06.15 ultrasn0w unlock

    My conclusion are:
    1. The future downgrade potential is refer both for 3G/3Gs.
    2. The unlocked for life via the 06.15 ultrasn0w unlock – are refer to non sim free iphones that need to unlocked in order to make call. since for this phone the BB will never update – they unlocked with current hacks for life

  • http://doctorwireless.net lu

how about all u ungreatfull dumbies, knowing this will maybe messes up something on your phone but u did it anyway knowing clearly what might happen if you do this , try something else or come up with a solution and maybe you might have an idea what it takes to provide this to strangers . anyways thanks to everybody behind all this and anything is a million times better than nothing so thanx to all for the info and help you guys gave all 3g users like myself a lot !

    • Trackrabbit

You really shouldn’t use the phrase “ungrateful dummies” if you can’t spell the phrase correctly.

  • Sick of Waiting

I thought this was a stupid and risky unlock method and steered clear of it fortunately.

  • John

Chico and Marc are both idiots. Be grateful for what you have people. Dev team does it for free.

    • Chico

Please read my last comment ;)

I am very grateful for their job. Who is the idiot?

  • Jj

My commodore 64 won’t work any more can it be fixed?

  • TQ

I think it comes down to this. The dev teams drive is to enable people to use their own software on the machines, but when the end result includes the destruction of core ‘killer’ functionality like the GPS (so you lose all the cool apps that depend on it) then you have question why Jailbreak in the first place when you end up with something that has much less value in the market. By the way, this isn’t just affecting the resale market value of unlocked and JB 06.15.00 bodged phones, it also puts a dent on all jailbroken phones as the market factors in all unknowns, and this creates ALOT of uncertainty in jailbreaking.

Personally, I did get stuck with the 06.15.00 screw up, but I own the decision (mistake!) I made and I’m not blaming anyone else. It’s my fault I chose to follow the instructions. But I also own that I will never jailbreak again (I’ve been using the dev team’s releases since 2008/ iPhone 2G). I’ve lost faith in the dev team. I think Apple is just a bigger, smarter force and they will always outsmart the likes of @MUSCLENERD and the rest.

    Prove me wrong!

    • Jj

What a bunch of hot air. Hand full of dev team VS huge company. Dev team def on top.

  • TQ

By the way, there is a downgrade method for 3G on 06.15.00 running 5.8 bootloader (the older bootloader). Instructions how to do this can be googled. So ( yar0n0v says: January 17, 2011 at 1:28 pm) stating “Because there’s no 4.3 beta for iPhone3G, it’s effectively unlocked for life via the 06.15 ultrasn0w unlock” isn’t strictly true – its not the case for iPhone 3G on 5.8 bootloader, they can downgrade 06.15.00 using a tool from Cydia.

i Loved Iphone For JB it & doing what ever i want with it!
but Plz Find a Solution for Us… :’(

  • RH

well it all comes down to one thing, you are provided with a choice thats not really a choice but because you have no other option you just go for it out of desperation and you pay a huge price for it. lets be honest guys…an apple iphone is not even worth £200 let alone the £400 plus everybody pays for it. The only reason I bought an iphone was because I knew I could jailbreak it and we have to be grateful to these hackers who work so hard to provide the tools even though these tools could potentially brick our devices. I have been jailbreaking for ages without any problems but am a bit disappointed with the Dev team because they released a tool, publicized it under their name and boasted about it for so long but at the end it didnt turn out to be that great. We are not slating Dev team but we are just raising our voices so that a fix is provided ASAP. You cant just pretend they will make one unless they know its needed so badly and they probably think we are not in the minority and thats why they would rather work on a future jeailbreak than make an attempt to clear their name from their previous failure.

    • Ibnusulis

Good point, but to describe their favor as failure is inappropriate. Failure is rather thousands or even millions of iphones all over the world that would have remained LOCKED had the dev team not worked hard on developing Ultrasnow. My 3G wouldn’t be sitting pretty on 4.2 and unlocked if there were no tools like pwnagetool. So, no.. they have not failed. We do when we fail to understand the phrase “DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK” they wrote in almost every release post.

  • eurompb

I have a jailbroken & unlocked 3G and am running OS 4.2.1. Fixed the battery drain issue with SAM. GPS works fine. Thanks Dev Team.

    • loai

      WTF! How COME!

  • Mwebsterpgh

The 3G is a piece of crap. Go get an iPhone 4.

  • Daffid

The Dev Team do the jailbreak because they like what they do, they are hackers (some people call them developers), nobody has forced Dev team to work round the clock to get the jailbreak software, they do it because they like to. However if you are going to do something, do it properly.
Of course it’s tempting to jailbreak your phone, don’t blame the users.

  • DotCom

I have upgraded my iphone 3GS baseband to 6.15.00 with OS 4.1.2 , it was working fine except that every time it reboot i have to run redns0w . I have decided to restore from itunes as i have AT&T account but everytime i restore from itunes i receive error 1015 message and the phone on the itunes cable connection .

Any advise will be much appreciated

    • Jj

If it’s on 6.15.00. Then it MUST be restored to 6.15.00. No other restore will work. End

  • DotCom

I have tried to restore through Redsn0w but it will stuck on the recovery mode

    • Jj

Restore as u did the first time using 6.15.00

This is the question ask, .. Do you have your 3G or 3GS unlocked and little or no GPS functionality? What are your thoughts on your iPhone being stuck unlocked forever? Sound off in the comments section below!

And as soon as someone sound off, or express there concerns they get bashed, WoW i guess no one read that question about sounding off.

you don’t have to eat out of there ass, thinking that they are going to go away, or delay the fix, if you express your concerns.

as tech’s and engineers we ask probing question to find out what more can we do, Evan if it’s negative

after all how will we know whats wrong if we don’t hear it from users, we don’t sit and play with phones all day there are so many different platforms we have to work on.

So leave people alone, Evan if its positive or negative

    Thanks

  • kris

i bought a used iphone. I had no idea phones had become like computers and i had to check all of this stuff before buying. Now i have my iphone, i had been trying for weeks to get the GPS working. Then i read all of this stuff.

These guys shouldnt be releasing software to the public if it destroys features of the phone. PERIOD. Why on earth should i be grateful for a piece of software that broke my phone. I do not understand the guys on here saying we should be grateful. Over anything, i would always choose to simply have a fully working phone. People did not expect Devteam to release bad software which ruins their iphone.

I hope these guys seriously fix the GPS problem asap, its not fair for those people who used them with faith, only to find out they hadnt really done what they said they would and hadnt tested it fully.

if people (devteam) position themselves as professional hackers with fully working JB’s etc, its very deceitful of them to do so when clearly their software is seriously flawed.

    • Jj

Get over urself cheap ass!! Buy a new dam phone. Loser

    • Tony

If there is one thing I hate. It’s people like you who think you have a right nay privlidge to post your ignorant comments where intelligent people can read em and laugh at ur ass.

First dev team even Sebastian placed strict and precise caustions in upgrading to 6.15.00 could and probably would have some issues. These were explained clearly. You might be stuck on 6.15.00 forever. If you chose to upgrade ur phone well that was ur choice. And if u bought it that way. Then take it up with the crook that knowing sold you that iPhone. Besides I guarantee it’s a 3G. Uhhh buy a newer phone and quit complaing. If you dot know what ur buying u get what u deserve. Next time stick to what u know.

  • kris

lol, harsh comments JJ, i see ur one of those lil nerdy guys with a lil penis, mad at the world, so u come on there forums and blow off steam!! pathetic. and maybe u cant read! i have a phone already! and that damn jailbreak messed it up. Anyway, if anyone who is not a lil penis boy retard wants to help me out please let me know ur advice.

    • Jj

Advice? Get over it! You newb. I do believe your the one coming here bitching and talking crap. Who’s really mad at the world? You apparently don’t know squat about an iPhone or the dev team. Do us all a favor put the hi tech computer down and get yourself something ur more familiar with. Maybe a rotary.

  • kris

lol, i feel sorry for u guys, how pathetic is ur life that u hang out on forums all day waiting for some1 to come online so u can let out all ur frustration about ur pathetic lil life. I came on here looking for help with my GPS problems and expressing my opinions like an adult on a page where it actually asks for your opinions! didnt know i wud be greated by a bunch of dumb incompetent 13 year oldschool girls who get upset and start crying just because i made a post lol. you just made me and my GF laugh for about 10 minutes. Calm down guys, i know this is probably your whole world, but its ok. If you cant add something intelligent to the conversation just go and masturbate over your boyfriends (the dev team), its creeping me out how defensive over them you are hahaha.

And to tony, this is a FORUM!!! So yes, i do, like everyone have the privalage to write here. if you actually read the opening statement it asks for peoples opinions. Seriously guy, how stupid are you? Your comment just makes you look like a complete fool. I thought geeks where suppose to be intelligent. lol. Your stupidity amazes me.

your boyfriends should not be releasing software that basicly breaks the functions on the iphone, one of the major functions at that. GPS! They have messed up alot of peoples phones because alot of people wrongfully trusted them.

    • Tony

Lmao! Whatever the case u Have a fucked up phone and we don’t ha!! Good luck with that.

  • kris

yep i dont have GPS now thanks to DEVTEAM. Nobody ever use any devteam software. Those bunch of morons release software pretending to people its been tested when it clearly hasnt. Stay well away people! If they dont know what there doing then they shouldnt be doin it!

    • Tony

Ya there are zero people who care what u think. Let’s see. The entire world waiting for dev team new 4.3 jb against u. Lmao. U lose

    • Tony

Ok so why u keep writing. FYI I’m att 4 on 4.0. Mine works. U lose. I bet ya when dev does release downgrade u be first in line.

  • kris

I lose? lose wot? lol…oh yer i forgot u hang around here for fun hahaha. are you 10 years old? Ill tell ur mummy to cut ur connection lil boy lol. Go harrass some other forums kid.You will see all over the net, every1 hates devteam now cus they messed up every1′s phones and they dont know how to jailbreak, the only person whos waiting for the 4.3 is YOU….no1 will touch their crap software again after this. im done talking to this lil retard

    • Jj

Lmao. So funny dam newbs. U come on the scene not knowing an ounce of what you are talking about. Stick with something you know. Obviously you know nothing about iOS

  • jay

Kris i have the same problem as you, only i just bought an almost new iphone costing me big $$$, now my gps puts me several kilometers out everytime. Wot a bunch of idiots, the dev team should be closed down. judging by the forums they have messed up 90% of jailbreaking peoples iphons. Why are those guys still making software? If ANYONE FINDS A FIX, please let me know asap.

  • kris

Well the good news is my buddy whos a iphone freak and X iphone engineer let me drop by his house and has managed to downgrade my modem firmware from 6.15.0 back down to 5. something. Now my GPS is back and everything is good. Took him about 20 mins, and looked pretty simple but hes an engineer so he knows the iphone inside out. The dev team apparantely wanted to do a profit share with alot of iphone class A experts and engineers to release firmware that bricks the phone or destroys certain features (such as GPS) in return for sharing the profits the engineers will receive from fixing the phones. Dont ever use any DEVTEAM software. They are either uncapable hackers or fraudsters, either way, stay well away!

  • Jj

    Lmao! Bs

  • iphoneabuser

LMAO @ kris, ur funny, i hate it wen ppl get mad online 4 no reason, maybe JJ & Tony are boyfriends & have a crush on the dev team hahaha, they sounded like they are about to cry lol. dont mind those 2, there prob lil kids like u said. Im a frustrated 6.15.00 sufferer too, but its my GPS and Battery that av been killed and now im s**t out of luck! if u find a fix let us all know on here ASAP. im sick of walking around with a charger in my pocket!

  • Lance

Just want to say thanks to the Dev team, if it were not for them my 3G would still be useless….There was the warning on the site and also in RSnow so anyone who is unhappy with the outcome is just looking for a reason to bitch!!!
Big UP DEV TEAM!!!! Keep up the good work!

  • kris

Lance? keep up the good work by releasing more software that kills the battery and gps on the iphone so your left with a considerably less functioning phone than you started with? That just doesnt make sense. I guess for you, going from a broken iphone to a semi functioning phone would be good, but its a bad comparison as most people have fully functioning phones, used the devs team software and then lost several functions such as a GPS and battery drain meaning you cant even go out for the day without bringing a charger.

  • Roy

Thats why they had a long post on their website and very clearly warned those who chose to use their software. I took the time to read it over and over again and chose not to proceed and I cant see how its dev teams fault if others didnt. With that said i still dont see anyone else delivering unlock solutions. Feel free to hate but we know too well that thousands of non-factory unloked phones had been kept in the drawer for thousands of people worldwide before their solution came out. Dont forget that their software have been around for years with not even donation accepted. One hickup or two are beyond their control since they’re not Apple that has hundreds of engineers working for them. So, this is just a friendly reminder that the dev ream still deserves the community’s appreciation, the least we can do to keep them motivated. Peace!

  • krisb

to be fair the post wasnt there when they first released the software. They only put that there when it was too late and all the unlocking guys had already unlocked thousands of iphones which are now messed up. If someone read the warning and downloaded it anyway then that of course is there fault as it clearly says NOW about the problems.
Also theres multiple software groups that offer unlocking, not just dev teams software. To be honest everyone isn’t annoyed because of the problem (not so much), but because they dont seem to be doin much about a fix, as they seem to be working on other projects instead now.

    • Roy

I was right there anticipating a new post by DT and I did see the phrase “do it at your own risk” since no reverse was possible. But you’re right it was not specifically gps related. But would make a perfect software in one release? Not even Apple.

Btw, maybe i havent done enough research, could you name one of those multiple unlock groups’ software you mentioned? I know there are thousands of iphone shops using the DT unlock software for free for their own gain but i havent heard of any alternative software to ultrasnow except via some risky hardware manipulation. I stand corrected if im wrong

  • Dude

Wondering if installing android on 3GS would wipe 06.15.00 bb off it and get my gps back?

  • TQ

Wondering if installing android on 3GS would wipe 06.15.00 bb off it and get my gps back? And get me outta this ‘dev’ team mess…. Any ideas…??

  • Bill

hey guys.. do u guys kno y? that i restore 4.1 with 6.15.00 baseband and still ultrasn0w not unlock my phone? iphone 3g?

  • Agonyandxtasy

I read every post word for word and see both sides…. For those who’s gps is screwed and are pissed at the dev team, it’s not their fault and I’m sure they will let us know when a fix is available, for the other side I agree that they do this for free for all of us and they should not be bashed on line or be held responsible….. By they way everyone I have 2 iPhone 3G phones…. One with 4.0 and one with 4.2, both running 06.15 basebands and everything works and I didnt even have to use SAM.,,,,so for those that are pissed off did anyone ever stop and think that maybe YOU screwed up or that maybe YOUR computer is screwed up?????? there is such a thing called user error…… I bet y’all are the types of people that put 24 inch rims on your car and then blame the rim manufacturer or the mechanic when you burn thru brakes every 6 months…..f$@;ing idiots

  • kris

we all put 24 inch rims on our cars and blame the mechanic after 6 months when the brakes are done in? very specific isnt it? lol.

the problem is, two worlds have now collided, the computer geek world, and the average consumer world thanks to Smart phones (mostly iphone). Alot of average Joes are now doing what they believe to be simple tasks such as jailbreaking, which looks just like point and click. These people dont understand that theres actually consequences to these actions, including me. A friend of mine jailbroke my phone, and now i have no GPS. The dev team basicly made a huge % of peoples phones loose all features (calls, sms, gps, wifi, bluetooth, battery life). Personally i lost gps, wifi and battery drain from their software, all because people believed in what they said they can do, JAILBREAK, well infact all they can do is just BREAK.

Imagine if Sony brought out a product such as PS4, that doesnt read cd’s and catches on fire sometimes, people would rightly so go crazy at sony and sony would be responsible for their actions. The dev team promised a product (free or not doesnt matter) that did not do what they said it would and seriouly damaged peoples phones. So yes, they should be held responsible! They claim to be jailbreakers etc, they release their software as free products, but a product non the less, as they do receive money for this just through different streams.

    • Roy

“The dev team basicly made a huge % of peoples phones loose all features (calls, sms, gps, wifi, bluetooth, battery life).” Get your facts straight. They enabled thousands of phones to make calls again with their unlock that otherwise wouldn’t. And why did you lose so many features while others only lost gps? The funny part is you said it yourself that your friend jailbroke it for you and you blame the dev team for not providing you warning.
