New iPhone TV Ad: Under the Covers

by Sebastien on Dec 20, 2010

Apple just released a new TV ad for the iPhone 4 featuring FaceTime, and Santa Claus himself. As usual, the ad is cute and moving, as it shows a dad wearing a Santa Claus costume and having a FaceTime conversation with his son. Awwwww.

Add a nice and sweet Christmas song to it all and you have Apple’s latest commercial, which you can watch below… Read More

The World’s Biggest iPhone

by Alex Heath on Dec 20, 2010

This is the world’s biggest iPhone. This giant iPhone is composed of 56 iPads and is located in the heart of London’s famous St. Pancras International Train Station.

This giant device does not serve much of a practical purpose, it serves as a promotional stunt for the new iOS game, “Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.” It’s a shame though, I wouldn’t mind having this massive iPhone hanging on my bedroom wall.

Promo images for the new Lara Croft game run on this giant display (I guess it’s actually 56 smaller displays) for anyone walking by to see. But don’t get too excited, you probably can’t play Angry Birds on it… Read More

Camera+ On Its Way Back After Volume Button Shutter Debacle

by Jeff Benjamin on Dec 20, 2010

The entire situation that went down with Camera+ probably ranks near the top as one of the weirdest events of 2010 for iPhone owners. This rings especially true if you happened to own or were considering purchasing Camera+ at the time of its banishment.

Essentially the story went like this, tap tap tap — the app’s developer — snuck in a hidden method to enable the volume buttons to function as physical shutter buttons for the iPhone’s camera. Apple didn’t like this, and as expected, removed all traces of Camera + from the App Store

Mail Rules Aims to Add Structure to Your Inbox

by Jeff Benjamin on Dec 20, 2010

Since I’m a Gmail user, all of my email is already organized on Google’s servers before hitting my iPhone. This is done by means of filters, which are essentially rules in Outlook-speak.

Rules have been noticeably absent from the iPhone’s cache of email features, but that’s probably because most people have setups like I do, meaning that their email is sorted and filtered prior to being downloaded to the iPhone.

For those of you that don’t have this luxury, Mail Rules — a jailbreak tweak for iOS 3.2 and up — aims to fill in the gaps. But does the tweak’s shortcomings rule it out?

Epic Cheese Dock for iPhone

by Sebastien on Dec 20, 2010

Say what? An iPhone dock made of cheese? Yes sir, you read that right. This is without a doubt the weirdest most original iPhone accessory I’ve ever seen, even though it’s a little cheesy (haha, excuse me but I couldn’t help it).

It is the second year that Ally Fontaine, the brilliant mind behind this cheese dock for iPhone, comes up with this accessory for Christmas. She explains… Read More

iPhone 4 Unlock Available in A Month?

by Sebastien on Dec 20, 2010

Last month the Dev Team released an update to their UltraSn0w tool which allowed to unlock the iPhone 3G and 3GS loaded with the latest iOS 4.2.1. The iPhone 4 was left out of the equation and unless you’re still on baseband 01.59.00, you can’t unlock this device yet.

Today, some good news was uncovered about an unlock for the iPhone 4 iOS 4.2.1 baseband 02.10.04 in a tweet sent out by Sherif Hashim. The iPhone hacker confirmed that an unlock for 02.10.04 will be available, most likely before January 16th… Read More

Your iPhone Apps Know A Lot About You

by Alex Heath on Dec 20, 2010

The Wall Street Journal has shared the results of an eye-opening investigation on how apps share personal data. Since the success of the App Store, apps have become the backbone of what makes or breaks a successful, mobile device.

The Journal looked into how some apps (both iOS and Android) actually behave with your phone’s information, and examined the personal data that most don’t know is shared through apps. The results were a little disturbing…

Apple’s New “Spiral UI” Patent Could Replace Cover Flow

by Alex Heath on Dec 19, 2010

Apple recently patented a new, spiral-based, graphical UI. Details on the patent reveal that the new “Spiral” interface is most likely intended to replace Cover Flow, an already existing interface in OS X and iOS. The design of the interface looks like it will work well with both standard and multi-touch displays, and will most likely be included in OS X Lion next summer.

The goal of this new interface is to display more information than was previously possible in a limited space. Like everything Apple does, another goal is to also make it as visually and aesthetically appealing as possible to the end user…
