TinyUmbrella Updated for iOS 4.2.1 [Do it Now]

TinyUmbrella has been updated to allow you to save your SHSH blobs on iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. If you are a jailbreaker and have 2 minutes to spare, I suggest you use it to save your SHSH blobs.

In case you don't know what TinyUmbrella is, it is a utility that allows you to save SHSH blobs, files that are necessary when you try to downgrade your iPhone to a previous iOS version. Without them, you couldn't downgrade. While most people don't care, it is especially helpful for jailbreakers...

That’s the Kind of Review You Want to Get for Your App

This is definitely the kind of rating and review that any app developer would like to get for his application.

I don't know what this app is. I just found this image accidentally on Twitter, via @rupinjapan. If you know the app, please let me know because it looks like it's definitely worth a download.

iPhone 4.2.1 UltraSn0w Unlock to Drop this Weekend

Some very comforting news on this cold Thanksgiving day, as MuscleNerd confirmed today that the iPhone unlock for iOS 4.2.1 will most likely be released this Sunday or even before.

This is good news, especially for those of you who still are using an iPhone 3GS or 3G. It is however not as good news for iPhone 4 users because there won't have an unlock for iPhone 4 for a little while...

Canon Easy-PhotoPrint Enables Direct Printing from iPhone [No AirPrint Required]

Recently I scored a new Canon Pixma MG5200 printer. One of the nice things about this printer is that it allows you to wirelessly print photos from your iPhone without the need for Apple's AirPrint functionality.

With options to queue up a seemingly unlimited amount of photos, this is a quick and dirty way to easily print from your iPhone. Check out the video inside as we show you how the process works.

List of Jailbreak Apps Compatible with iOS 4.2.1

Not all jailbreak apps are compatible with iOS 4.2.1 so, to make it easier for us to figure out what works and what doesn't, MuscleNerd has created a list of applications that are compatible with iOS 4.2.1

The list that can be found here is available to anyone to edit. If you want to know what works, and more importantly if you want to help the community, you may want to check out this list and add your own entries.

Happy Thanksgiving

For everybody in the US, today is Thanksgiving, which traditionally has been a time to give thanks for a bountiful harvest. So I would like to take this occasion to thank you all on behalf of the iDB team to make this blog what it is today.

Hard work and original content are nothing without the people that make all this possible: you!

So thank you for allowing us to have such a great community around iDB. Thank you to iDB writers, readers, commenters, heck, we'll even thank the haters!

Enjoy the turkey :)

How to Backup Your Cydia Apps

One of the things I really dislike when updating my iPhone to a newer iOS and jailbreaking it, is reinstalling all my jailbreak apps, one by one. This is a long and tedious job, especially if like me, you have a bunch of tweaks and jailbreak apps.

There is now an easy solution to backup all your jailbreak apps, tweaks, and themes, so you can update your iPhone, jailbreak, and reinstall those apps in no time. Here is how it works...

New Jailbreak App Adds 3D Transitions Between Your iPhone Pages

According to its developers, Barrel is a jailbreak tweak that adds a 3D "cube" effect to your icon pages. The description surely fits the bill and doesn't disappoint, but the price may prove to be a stumbling block.

Take a look inside as I take a video glimpse at this latest Jailbreak App. Then you can decide for yourself if this visual tweak is worth departing with your hard earned cash...

The Difference Between a Tethered and Untethered Jailbreak

With the release of the RedSn0w iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak, the notion of tethered jailbreak has been reintroduced and there seems to be a little bit of confusion about what's different between a tethered and untethered jailbreak.

I've seen many comments asking more clarification about what a tethered/untethered jailbreak is, so I thought I'd give you a quick and simple explanation...

The First iPhone Dedicated Printer

The "Bolle BP-10" is the world's first iPhone dedicated photo printer. You may be asking, "Why?" Well, with the release of iOS 4.2, AirPrint, and other options like Printopia, printing has become much more of a reality on iOS devices.

All available methods for printing from an iOS device rely on either another computer to serve the actual files, or a wireless printer. The "Bolle BP-10" lets you dock your iPhone and print directly. I could see iPhone-based printers like this one become a huge hit in the technology consumer market...

Apple Puts Yet Another Roadblock to Jailbreaks and Unlocks

Even though jailbreaking is now legal, the cat and mouse game will never stop between Apple and the jailbreak community. Last example is the fact that iOS 4.2.1 has introduced a new baseband requirement, as explained by Notcom, the developer of TinyUmbrella.

While it's not clear yet what Notcom means by "baseband requirement", we can nonetheless assume that it is some kind roadblock that's going to make it harder for us to jailbreak, unlock, and downgrade.

Here is what Notcom has to say about this new baseband requirement:

5 Awesome iPhone Task Manager Apps

After positive feedback on my last roundup, I've decided to start a weekly (possibly bi-weekly) list of "5 Awesome iPhone ___________ Apps" articles. To reiterate from last week, the 5 apps I will mention in this list are not jailbreak apps, so everyone can use them.

Each of these apps are fantastic task managers for your iPhone. They have their own fortes and negatives, but, in my opinion, they're all deserving of the word "awesome." Hope you enjoy...
