Download RedSn0w to Jailbreak iPhone 4.2.1

The Dev Team just updated RedSn0w to version 0.9.6b4, which will jailbreak iOS 4.2.1. As we explained yesterday, thanks to a combination of pwnage2 exploit, the arm7_go exploit, 24kpwn, and LimeRa1n, you will get an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 3G, older iPhone 3GS, and non-MC iPod touch 2G.

Unfortunately, other devices will get a tethered jailbreak, which means you will have to plug your iPhone in and launch RedSn0w every time you reboot…

It is very important to note that if you want to unlock, you should not use RedSn0w as it will update your baseband. Wait for PwnageTool to update safely without updating your baseband.

      Your phone reboots everytime you go to winterboard or download a certain app from cydia or if you run your battery
      Down.

    When doing trail and error with cydia apps you have to reboot often. This jailbreak isn’t worth the hassle.

    Sounds like you are saying the 3GS is older than the 3G.

    Moron question here re: unlcoking. I jailbreaked 4.1 with Redsnow (love it, btw), but did not preserve the unlock (3G). Now that 4.2.1 is out am I able to unlock once that is ready IF I DID NOT PRESERVE THAT ABILITY in 4.1? Its a bit confusing…sorry. I guess what I am asking is that with each new software relase from apple, does this open up the dev team to perhaps find an unlock for that verison and if you did not unlock with the previous jailbreak, do you lose that ability with future releases from apple? Does that question make any sense?

      If they unlock the baseband on 4.2.1(5.15.02?) using ultrasn0w or something along those lines then regardless of what you have done to your phone in the past you should be able to unlock up to that version(4.2.1).

      For example, they unlock 4.2.1 baseband, you could do a full factory restore to 4.2.1 and then still jailbreak it and unlock it.

      As stated before you would want to avoid this if you are worried about things like the resale value and what not. But if you are already updated to a version with no unlock, such as 4.1, you should be fine when the 4.2.1 unlock is released.

    I’m still running 4.0.1, trying to decide if 4.2 is really all that and I should bother with this tethered jailbreak crap.

      My phone has been updated to 4.2.1. I don’t see a difference. I lost my unlock!! Now I just have a iPod!!! Lol

    I had a problem with my iPhone 3G 3.1.3, had no choice to take it to apple! The fixed the problem but they also updated my firmware to 4.2.1 will I ever be able to unlock it again?????

      If Cydia was installed, remove ultrasnow. Turn the iphone off and back on, service will be restored.

    I have a 3G and just did the jailbreak. It works great and easy to due but I do see one issue. The WiFi no long works. I have tried on 3 router and the phone doesn’t even pick see the router at all.

      If the router is password protected with WEP key let us say, you have to re-enter the WEP key on your iphone.

        The iPhone doesn’t even see the router so you cant even enter a WEP key.

    K I’m not expert but once t he code is out it is easy to patch. See this understanding? MS Windows proves the point because there is a simple fact. Want it to run quicker? Leave loose code so that it doesn’t have to think as much. Add security because a hacker finds that exploit, it slows down. Everytime new software comes out garentee mac downloads it and goes “ah that’s how they do it.” It will become harder and harder. CHeers:)

    Im always checking new apps and fonts and having to deal with a JB link to my PC each time I rebot to load said items? Seems like a fuckin headache to say the least.

    Each Time I download and extract redsn0w it gives me an error that the file is incomplete.

    Well I have a Iphone 3G with version 4.2.1 (8c148) and Modem Firmware 05.15.04 and i tryed using redsn0w 0.9.6b4 and it gets to the reboot stage of the jailrbreak and nothing happens, it just freezes. What could I do to fix this problem? Or do I need wait for a new jailbreak or try another version?

      Hi Lesmoore
      Before you run Redsn0w do this
      1 right click on redsn0w.exe
      2. click on the properties
      3. click on the tab compatiablity
      4. Tick on the compatiablity as XPSP3
      5. apply it, click ok and close
      Now right click on redsn0w.exe and select run as administrator
      then follow the instruction

    i cant even download the latest redsnow, or rather, i download it, but the *.rar file is incomplete so its unopenable

    and the older version 0.95b5.2 is “unable to recognize specified IPSW :(

    any solutions?

    every time i download ios 4.2.1 it shows as a zip file and when i extract it it puts it into 6 diffirent files and red snow dosent read any of them. does any one no why this is happening

    So many people say they have jb their 1phone 4 but it doesn’t work on mine. Any suggestions?

    So, I jb my phone with the b6 ver of redsn0w. It worked fine. Cydia was white, I rebooted with redsn0w and it was brown and fine. uploaded mywi, it asked for a reboot and it crashed my phone. Went to another pc, restored my phone, now I am trying to jb and it is like I have b4 ver of redsn0w. Keeps crashing when it is dealing with the ramdisk. So, where do I go from here to jb?

    After jailbreaking my iPhone successfully, I found that Cydia wasn’t working and would crash each time I would try to open it. I followed some instructions saying that I should restart redsn0w and choose the “just boot tethered…” option. But after I did so, my phone doesn’t reboot. Instead it freezes on a screen with a pineapple on it and it keeps vibrating every five seconds. What do I do?
