Apple just released iTunes 10.1, bringing AirPlay to the table. iTunes 10.1 will also be necessary to update your iPhone to iOS 4.2, whenever it’s released.

So far there is no indication whether iTunes 10.1 is safe for iPhone jailbreak and unlock, so my advice to you is to stay away from it until we get confirmation from the Dev Team that it is indeed safe.

Here is the changelog of iTunes 10.1…

  • Use AirPlay to instantly and wirelessly stream videos from iTunes to the all-new Apple TV.
  • Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 4.2.
  • Provides a number of important stability and performance improvements.

Feel free to ask if you have any question or comment.

UPDATE: It seems iTunes 10.1 os safe for jailbreakers.

Question for you, I’ve been watching videos from iTunes to my Apple TV for a few weeks now. How is this new release different ?

  • Fofer

It’s different because you can PUSH from iTunes as opposed to just PULLING from the AppleTV interface. Makes things easier and more versatile.

Previously we were told only told about AirPlay from iDevices. That it is extended to iTunes as well is rather exciting. It also paves the way for an enterprising developer like Rogue Amoeba to allow us to send video from any Mac OS app wirelessly to an AppleTV, not just iTunes, much like their product Airfoil allows for audio.

iTunes 10.1 Airplay can’t connect to Apple TV (2nd gen) to push media from iTunes to ATV. It can only pulls from ATV. Incompetents who can’t get their act straight.

  • Fofer

Dude, chill. Airplay is pushing audio just fine, to AppleTV’s (1st and 2nd gen.) When the OS update for the 2nd gen AppleTV comes our (shortly, I bet) then it will push video to those units as well.

in the update where you said its safe

  • Ed

Not SAFE!!! First my wifi wasn’t working, then I turned off the iphone and turned it back on and it at the usb icon/itunes logo. Then it sayss I have to go into recovery mode and to do so, I will update to the newest firmware and erase everything.

    • Fofer

I have updated to iTunes 10.1 and my jailbroken iPhone and iPad continue to sync (and work) just fine. If WiFi wasn’t working for you, that’s got nothing to do with iTunes or it’s version number, and everything to do with your iPhone. Something’s wrong with it — a firmware update and full erase might be in order.
