This one is an interesting find by our Engadget friends. Apparently some T-Mobile stores in the US are selling iPhone charging cables. What can that mean? Are they preparing for the T-Mobile iPhone? We’ve heard our share of rumors about that in the past.

Or maybe they’re just trying to provide accessories for iPhone unlockers who make the move to T-Mobile? Your guess is as good as mine.

Man all I know is I cannot wait until a 4.1 Unlock is released because I will be right back on Tmobile! I hate this AT&T 3G bullcrap and massive data charges etc!

I didn’t have any issues with my Tmobile phone when I was using my iPhone 1 unlocked & JB before I got the 4!

Because T-Mobile’s EDGE network is better than AT&T’s 3G network? What are you saying?

    • YourMother

4.1 unlock is out. 4.2 is being worked on. Ive had 4.1 on my device for several weeks using the new pwngetool

I know of a lady from Australia that is currently in the US to watch the shuttle launch. Prior to her arrival she called AT&T and T-Mobile to see what her pricing options were. T-Mobile provided support, and needless to say, she’s been using her iPhone on T-Mobile’s network for a week now on some type of pre-paid plan. Clearly, without 3G; just EDGE.

I thinkis for the people using the iphone on tmobile because here in new york you can walk into any tmobile store and they help you jailbreak the iphone to work on tmobile lol..and when you call tmobile customer service they even have their own iphone customer service people for tmobile

    • mplsboywonder

yep. My first experience on unlocking and using T-mobile was on a 2G. Worked perfectly, then with the arrival of the 3G I was having some problems with the unlock…….So I called T-Mobile. Told them I was using a jailbroken iPhone. They changed some setting in their system, and I was up in running in a matter of minutes.

T-Mobile not only caters to the unlocked iPhones, they want unlocked iPhones. Not to mention I was paying 51 dollars for 1500 minutes and unlimited everything….What a deal!!!

Well I use tmobile on my iPhone 4. Besides edge I don’t miss AT&T I have FaceTime mms unlimited data so I’m happy. Besides everyplace I go they offer wifi so who needs 3G from AT&T

What a waste of an awesome phone.. I work with someone who’s 3GS is using tmobile, he’s f”@king cheap, brags about his $6 a month Internet plan when it takes 3 days to download a web page. att&t is fine here in ct.

It’s only the matter of time till iPhone comes to all carriers.

    • Burge

As you say only a matter of in the UK all the major networks sell the iPhone now there is not much need for a unlock..unless you buy 2nd hand and you need it. But if you get in touch with the network thay will unlock it for you from there network.

I think it’s obvious. They are trying to make some money on the iPhone even though they don’t sell it. It’s no secret that some of their customers use iPhones, but it’s not so much that they want to service those people, as much as they want to grab a piece of the iPhone pie like everyone else.

  • They are not carrying the cables because they are going to be offering the iPhone anytime soon. They carry the cables because in the UK T-Mobile offers iPhones so they want to support international customers here in the US. Also because they support jailbroken iPhones on their network which has already been stated. Here is the official announcement from T-Mobile on the matter:

Select T-Mobile stores will soon begin carrying iPod/iPhone charge and Sync cables to support customers who may be using an unlocked iPhone or are traveling from outside the United States and using an iPhone while roaming on our network. T-Mobile carries the iPhone in Europe, so many people traveling to the U.S. roam on our network with their iPhones. The iPod/iPhone cable also makes a great companion product for our line of MicroUSB charging solutions. The cable can be plugged into the USB port of the universal MicroUSB car, wall or two-in-one chargers to provide customers with a charging solution for their iPod when they are on the go.

I do really like the black cable!!! I actually want one for the car, the white cable sticks out like a sore thumb.

The reason that T-Mobile is selling iPhone accessories is because they have over 1.0M of their customers using the device on the network in the US. Since the margins on unbelievable, it makes sense to capture those dollars.

  • This is a good blog for Mobile technology.

  • Well it can be both. Everything is possible with this very advance world we have now. Looks like I am smelling a better competition I am so excited to see what is next good impact will surely hit the consumers.
