Yet Another PwnageTool Teaser

by Sebastien on Oct 19, 2010

Dev Team member MuscleNerd is teasing us again with a screenshot of PwnageTool jailbreak for iOS 4.1. Previously supposed to be released last Sunday, PwnageTool has obviously been postponed and we still don’t have any idea of when it will be available.

PwnageTool is a jailbreaking tool that allows you to update your iPhone to the latest jailbroken software while preserving the baseband so you can unlock your iPhone. This upcoming version of PwnageTool will work with the iPhone 3G, 3GS and iPhone 4. It will also work with the iPod Touch 2G, 3G, and 4G. Additionally, it will jailbreak the iPad and the new Apple TVRead More

LimeRa1n vs GreenPois0n

by Sebastien on Oct 19, 2010

In the battle of the jailbreak for iOS 4.1, we have 2 unique opponents: LimeRa1n vs GreenPois0n. LimeRa1n came first and kinda stole the show. GreenPois0n was released a few days later but was it already too late?

I am curious to see what you, iDB reader, used to jailbreak your iPhone. Did you wait for GreenPois0n or did you jump on the LimeRa1n bandwagon as soon as it got released. Please take a few seconds of your time to take this poll… Read More

Captionfish App Makes It Easier to Find Deaf-Friendly Movie Theaters

by Guest Author on Oct 19, 2010

For the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, it can be difficult to enjoy the movie going experience. Few theaters provide on-screen captions for fear of it distracting the general population, and while new methods of accessibility are emerging (see Rear Window® captioning), finding a theater and showtimes to take advantage of this can be cumbersome.

Not anymore with Captionfish. The free app by DeafCode LLC is slick and simple, using your GPS location to find the closest theaters and showtimes with deaf-accessible movie showings. It also provides trailers of upcoming movies with closed captions (although they acknowledge some users are having trouble accessing this feature and they are working toward a solution)… Read More

App Review – Bowman War

by Guest Author on Oct 19, 2010

This simple tower defense style game kept me entertained a good few hours. Being the third installment in the Bowman series, the developer knows a thing or two about keeping the player interested.

The object of the game is to get the units from your (left) side of the screen, over and beyond the enemy’s right side of the screen, while it tries to do the same to you… Read More

ScanIt: A Great Free App for QR Codes

by Nick on Oct 18, 2010

I see QR codes springing up everywhere, and naturally, I wanted that functionality on my iPhone. There’s a free app in the App Store, ScanIt, that will allow you to use your iPhone’s camera to scan a QR code. Then depending on what type of information is contained within the code, it will launch the appropriate app.

An email address will launch the Contacts app while a URL will launch the website in Mobile Safari. This is a single-functionality app, so it will not scan barcodes. But for a free QR scanning app, this is a must have.

Here’s a cool way that I’ve integrated this into my life… Read More

Just Tweet it – iPads vs iPhones

by Sebastien on Oct 18, 2010

We always enjoy a good laugh here at iDB, especially when it comes in the form of a spoof video feature our favorite devices: iPhones and iPads.

ToneFXs: Get Your Custom Alert Tones On

by Guest Author on Oct 18, 2010

I love the iPhone. Really I do. I love most everything about it. Most. But like any other iDevice geek, I have found some less than desirable aspects of the iPhone, namely tone alerts.

Imagine walking into a crowded coffee shop. Now imagine someone with their iPhone volume turned all the way up and that particular someone receives an SMS. With the default SMS [tri-tone] sound, odds are some owners of iPhones in the coffee shop will glance at their screen to verify whether it’s them or not. In a nutshell, every stock iPhone on the planet has the same tri-tone sound when it comes SMS. Boring huh? Read More
