Apple Looking Into Dumping iPhone Carriers?

by Sebastien on Oct 27, 2010

Speaking of a close environment… There is an interesting article on GigaOM today which suggests that Apple might be about to cut out the carriers.

Apparently Apple is working with SIM manufacturer Gemalto to create a unique SIM card that would be integrated inside the phone and that would allow people to buy the iPhone directly from Apple and choose a carrier via the App Store… Read More

White iPhone 4 Cancelled?

by Sebastien on Oct 27, 2010

When you think the drama is almost over, some good ol’ rumors show up, throwing yet a little more oil on the fire. According to BGR and their insider ninjas, Apple has absolutely no plan of ever releasing the white iPhone 4.

The plan is actually to delay the White iPhone 4 again in the Spring, which would inevitably lead us to an iPhone 5 release… Read More

Jailbreak App Adds Extra Control Volume to Your App Switcher

by Sebastien on Oct 27, 2010

This is a boring day for the jailbreak community. After checking out the somewhat useless EZDecline this morning, we’re now having a quick look at App Switcher Volume, a new jailbreak application that adds a volume slider to the “now playing” bar of your app switcher.

That’s all it does and really, for $0.99, I sure hope it does it well…

Does that look interesting enough to download?

This Jailbreak App Let’s You Easily Decline Phone Calls

by Sebastien on Oct 27, 2010

EZDecline is a new jailbreak app that let’s you easily decline phone calls. If your phone is locked and you receive a phone call, the only thing that will show on your screen is the “Slide to Answer” option. EZDecline tweaks that a bit by adding the buttons to “Decline” or “Answer”.

Priced at $0.99, I don’t find this mod much useful because this feature is already available under a different form on your iPhone… Read More

Can’t Quit Apps with the Home Button? This Might Be Why.

by Nick on Oct 27, 2010

Everything was pretty smooth for a while on my 4.1 jailbroken device, but then it happened. I tapped the Home button to quit an app and nothing happened. I double tapped it, and the switcher popped up. Another double tap and it retreated. Another single tap, but my open app stayed open.

If this happened to you, most likely the problem is with the latest version of Notified Pro.  I did some research, and uninstalled Notified Pro via Cydia. After a reboot, the problem was gone. Just in case, I re-installed it. Within half an hour, the problem was back, and I couldn’t quit apps without using the SBSettings Close Button.

I removed Notified Pro again, and problem solved. If you can’t live without Notified Pro, check this out. Hope this helps some of you out there.  Anyone else experience the same issue?

GV Extension Adds Native Google Voice SMS Functionality to the iPhone

by Nick on Oct 27, 2010

Now that Google Voice is back on the iPhone (natively), many of us are using the app to send SMS messages. Still, since there is no real way to set an app as a default SMS handler, we found ourselves using both the SMS app and whichever GV app we found most useful.

No more! There’s a new tweak in Cydia that merges the two. SMS GV Extension sets your Google Voice account as the default handler of text messages. Now when you send or receive text messages, it will be exclusively handled through the Google Voice API, and not your text messaging plan through your carrier.

For some of you, this is awesome.  But there is a huge limitation with this solution… Read More

How Good the Mac App Store Could Be

by Nick on Oct 27, 2010

Now that Apple has announced a desktop version of the App Store, there is much speculation on what we are actually getting. There are already quite a few OS X software marketplaces out there, though none are as polished as the iPhone’s App Store.

If Apple is smart, they will likely add the Mac App Store as a way to run universal apps and release an iOS runtime platform for the desktop. Just think about it for a minute.

There isn’t much unification between doing tasks on an iPhone and a Mac simultaneously, save for the apps that sync with their desktop counterparts. Here are some predictions I have about benefits of supporting universal apps on Macs.

App Review: Eat It!

by Michael on Oct 27, 2010

Created by Dragon Team Interactive, Eat it! is an insanely simple game which features cute characters and equally matching charming music.

The concept is pretty straightforward and easy to pick up. You must feed lions or monkeys, the appropriate food they need. The lions will be eating meat and the monkeys will be eating fruit. That’s basically the game in a nutshell… Read More

Apple Delays White iPhone 4 Again

by Sebastien on Oct 26, 2010

So much for the good surprise we had this morning when the white iPhone 4 appeared in Apple’s own Apple Store application. If you thought the white iPhone 4 was just around the corner, then think again, as a spokesperson told Reuters the long awaited white model won’t be available until next Spring.

The white iPhone 4 has been officially delayed several times now (1, 2, 3), and this is getting a little ridiculous… Read More

Warning: Your iPhone Can Poison You

by Sebastien on Oct 26, 2010

What a dramatic title for this post! The reality is a little less dramatic, but still very worrying. According to an AFP article, Chinese workers who were working on an iPhone assembly line in Suzhou claim to have been poisoned by a dangerous chemical.

Apparently, these poor workers have spent over 6 months in a hospital after being exposed to n-hexane… Read More
