I get many offers from websites to do paid reviews of their services but I rarely (if ever) do it because I usually don’t think the site is good enough to share with you. I was recently contacted by the guys over at eSeth.net to do a review of their site. To be honest, they’re paying me money for this but that doesn’t mean I’m going to be gentle with them.

The site is a mobile community where quality content like themes, wallpapers and ringtones are shared by members around the globe. The site currently has over 500 iPhone 4 wallpapers, and over 1,000 wallpapers for iPhone 3GS. There are also over 2,600 mp3 ringtones. Obviously these numbers are changing everyday as more and more content is added by members…

And I think that is the strength of this website. Content is added by its members! With over 100,000 members and counting eSeth is growing at a fair pace.

Now let’s dig a little deeper into the website… As soon as I got there, I was a little confused about where to go. I saw links for HTC phones, Samsung, Nokia, etc, but nothing for the iPhone. That was kind of a disappointment at first but I quickly found my way around.

The second disappointment was that I had to create an account to download any ringtone or wallpaper from the site. While that seemed annoying at first, I soon realized it was necessary to create personal accounts so everyone can not only download content, but most importantly add content to the site.

So I created my account and part of the registration process is to ask you what phone model you use. I selected iPhone 4, which became pretty handy later on as the site offered ringtones and wallpapers catered to me (see image below).

After a couple minutes spent on the site, I was able to easily understand its structure and navigate around. First things first, I looked for a new wallpaper.

You can browse wallpapers by category and then refine the search by sorting them by “most downloaded”, “most commented”, etc… That was pretty handy. I’m really into abstract wallpapers and in just a few seconds I had found quite a few optimized for the iPhone 4 Retina Display. Sweet!

Next step for me was to find a new ringtone. I knew right of the bat what I wanted: a Super Mario ringtone 😉

Searching for ringtones is as easy as searching for wallpapers. If you know exactly what you’re looking for, you can also use the search box, which is what I did.

I found exactly what I wanted, and after listening to the preview, I downloaded it to my computer. The problem is it comes in the mp3 format which is not compatible with the iPhone ringtone system. I’m sure you can tweak the file to make it work on the iPhone but that would defeat the purpose of this site which is to make your life easier.

So anyway. I’ve got a few nice wallpapers to choose from. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to use the Super Mario Bros ringtone that I wanted.

All in all, eSeth is a pretty good site if you’re looking for a wallpaper for your iPhone, not as good if you’re looking for a ringtone as it won’t be compatible with your iPhone. Even though the registration process turned me off at first, I have to admit it is the best way to add tons of wallpapers and ringtones to the site as anyone can upload content, which I believe is the best part of this site.

All is free there so there is no worries about that. If you’re looking for a new ringtone or wallpaper, give it a try and let us know what you think by leaving a comment below.

To convert your MP3 ringtone for use on your iPhone, do the following:
    1. Using iTunes, convert it to AAC format (you may have to go into preferences and change your import settings to have that option).
    2. Right-click on the AAC version and select Show in Finder.
    3. Copy it to your desktop and change its extension from .M4A to .M4R.
    4. Double-click on it and it will open in iTunes and be added to your ringtones.

thank you, id read that process before can’t believe i forgot it :S

haven’t tried this yet but experience with another website of this ilk (t.zedge.net) leaves me with the same issue, ringtones in the mp3 format. I’ve not found a way of converting from mp3 as I only discovered the site a few days ago but would gladly sign up to eSeth if the ringtones were compatible.

I use zedge.net all the time for different ringtones, and it will download the format you need as long as you have selected your phone. Then i just drag it into iTunes. Works like a charm and content is also uploaded by registered users.

I believe zedge.net has more good stuff

I was able to get a great super Mario ringtone from cydia. No hassle.

    • SpideyRules

And it didn’t require JBing my phone (although it already is)

  • SpideyRules

I was able to get from zedge…no hassle…and they even had the themes from the different levels…

Go to Cydia and download UnlimTones…it’s an app that has a massive amount of free ringtones and SMS tones. The best part is that it puts them right in your sound folder in settings. You can also select any part of any song in your iPod library and make a ringtone

All without leaving the app…! Hope I helped out

  • .m4r support has been added to the site and m4r ring tones are now available when you select any iPhone Model. It will take a few days for the members to fill in the galleries with m4r ringtones.
