How to Unlock iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.2 with UltraSn0w

This step by step guide and tutorial will show you how to unlock your iPhone 3G iOS 4.0.2 using UltraSn0w 1.1-1. At the time I am writing this, it will only work with the iPhone 3G since there is no jailbreak for other devices.

Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using RedSn0w.

Step 2: Go to Cydia and search for UltraSn0w. If it’s not there, you might have to add the following repo: repo666.ultrasn0w.com

Step 3: Install UltraSn0w.

Step 4: Reboot your iPhone.

You’re done. You should now be able to use your iPhone 3G with any carrier.

    When i updated just this application, my unlocked phone stopped working. It turns on and allows me all the access that an itouch would but my tmobile sim card is no longer recognized. My phone worked great before with ultrasn0w 4.0-1. Is there any way to redownload that version of ultrasn0w?

    I’m in the same boat.. WiFi is dead so no way to get to UltraSn0w. Cydia is on the iPhone 3g but no way to connect to jailbreakme.com. Is there a way to do it through downloading a file on the Mac?

    make sure you read the directions. Ultrasn0w isn’t a gimmick or new app, it’s standard fare for unlocking the iPhone.

    Install. Turn off 3G, Reboot. Take your SIM out and put it back in. Turn on Airplane mode then turn it back off. Install sbsettings ultrasn0w toggle and toggle it back and forth. Keep trying these things. I’ve always had it run perfectly after the 3G/Reboot steps.

    And if you still have problems, don’t hang out here, go to modmyi.com

    Humble, the part that isn’t working is the first part… install. There is no SIM and the WiFi is dead. I don’t know how to install Ultrasn0w without having internet access. I can connect it to a computer (Mac) through the cable but that’s about it. Just trying to figure out how to get Ultrasn0w on the iPhone.

    yeah, without Wifi or SIM it’s hard to put Ultrasn0w on. I’d still go to modmyi.com and ask there. It’s really going to have a lot more.

    If you have it already jailbroken, you might be able to get in through SSH to install it manually. I know of other people trying to do the same thing but don’t remember exactly how.

    What’s wrong with the wifi? I know that lots of times the antenna will fail, but if you put the phone right next to the wireless router it will get a signal and you can install. I’ve done that with one and it had to be about 6 ft. from the router.

    One thought I have is that you could cook up your own ROM through Pwnage Tool on a Mac. It will let you install programs previous to the build and they will be on there when you set it up. Maybe that will work. It would take another restore though. good luck

    Dude i toyed around with this forever… I realized that the ispw that you have a link to always came up invalid… i found another somewhere else and it worked.. I then had the Wifi problem. I just reset the network settings and rebooted.. Works like a charm… Now im back to my tmobile account on my iphone running ios 4.0.2 THANXXXXX

    Ok, only problem is that I do NOT have WiFi and I do not have a SIM. I can’t hook up to the internet in any way. I can download from a computer but there is no way to “go to Cydia”. If I could I would or go to jailbreakme.com but I need a way to download something to my computer that I can then send to the phone.

    first connect iphone to pc and jailbreak with redsnow and click there install cydia and then try to find a place wi-fi :D if u got 4.0.2 here is no way to install cydia thru jailbreakme.com

    I have gone through this 6 or 7 times. I have got the Cydia icon on the phone but no WiFi in phone. I have WiFi all over the place but this phone is either dead or partially bricked so even leaning it against a WiFi antenna gets no reception… arrggghhhhhhh.. as the saying goes, it’s not my first rodeo, I’ve broken other phones without problem but that was my own phone and this is someone else’s so I don’t know if the WiFi has ever worked… Thanks!

    @Bubba I’d do a stock restore, get an ATT SIM card to test it. If no WiFi, it’s prolly dead. And like I said, you could try to use dev team’s Pwnage Tool to build a firmware that already has Cydia and ultrasn0w and whatever other apps on it that you might want.

    But really Bubba, do the Pwnage Tool trick (or the Weather tools set with sn0wbreeze, forecast and iReb, etc) before you keep banging your head against this with a head-on approach. I’m sure you can get cydia and ultrasn0w running that way and then you can DL other apps through EDGE even if you have no WiFi

    Maybe use a diff copy of redsn0w too. I’d try older versions as well.

    Well at present we’ve given up. Everyone I know went with the iPhone 4 so….NO SIM CARDS!!!!!! (Well they’re all micro and won’t fit) The universe is plotting against me I’m certain..

    you can tape the micro sim to a piece of paper and put it in or use cereal box cardboard to cut out a frame for it to fit.

    Sell the phone on eBay for more than it’s worth and buy one that works from craigslist. good luck

    looks i succesfully jailbreak it and cydia is there.

    install ultrasn0w but nothing happen.. anytime i put my WIND sim card, the phone complain about an “incompatible sim card” asking me to connect to itunes that say the same thing…

    I am trying to use my “TMN” sim card on 4.0.2, I used jailbreakme.com to get cydia, than ultrasn0w, and I cant get any service…It recognizes my sim card but “No Service” int he top left…ANy ideas

    I need some major help guys! I stupidly updated to 4.0.2 on my 3G. It’s not jailbroken, and I’ve installed ultrasn0w……but now I’m getting ‘No Service’ where it’s suppose to say ‘t-mobile’. PLEASE HELP!! I’ve tried everything to fix this…..

    Oh, I’m sorry, I meant it’s *now jailbroken. Basically the same problem as Mack. After combing through a bunch of forums, I found that A LOT of people are having the ‘no service’ issue, but no one has posted a fix…..helllllp!! I feel so out of touch..3 days with no service!

    I tried to jailbreak my iphone 3g version 3.0 with 4.0.1 through redsn0w and also installed cydia and ultrasn0w everything worked……:) but after rebooting iphone it gave very poor signal and finally to NO SERVICE :@…IS there anyother to get rid of this problem……XD

    can i unlock without wifi through pawnage tool or any other software?? Is pawnage tool available for windows? or is there any way to get wifi fixed.

    I have Apple IOS 4.0.2 and my IPhone 3g is jail broken and unlocked I have T-Mobile and it is working great.

    All those that are very interested you need to get the following and keep trying, it will eventually work. Took me like two weeks, and close to a dozen tries. I was frustrated and I just kept on.

    You first need redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-5 beta version then you need to get firmware iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore put these in one file on your desk top and just keep running Redsn0w, and eventually one time you will see the pineapple with a bite out of it on your phone.

    My IPhone 3G is working on my T-Mobile account right now.

    @ Amber Make sure you reboot your phone afterwards and that you turn OFF 3G, it can interfere with ultrasn0w, because T-Mobile doesn’t use the same 3G signals.

    @Jigar it would be easier to run it on a Mac, but you can on windows. The files you need are referred to as iH8sn0w. They are iReb, f0recast and sn0wbreeze. They essentially do the same thing. You want Sn0wbreeze 1.6 or better. Really you should look at modmyi.com instead of this post. people will help you there a lot faster and with more expertise. sn0wbreeze also lets you install programs directly in the ipsw file, so you can put ultrasn0w right on it then restore (in DFU mode) and it will be ready to go. I’ve done this successfully. good luck.

    i need help. i just got an iphone..i am new to all of this but anyways. it had 4.1 which i downgraded to 4.0. i jb and unlocked using redsn0w and ultrasn0w thru cydia. everything works fine on the phone except that i have no service. i uninstall and reinstall ultrasnow. i have toggled back and forth, rebooted…everything has been done step by step as shown here and no luck. do u know if anyone is having problems with simple mobile? when i put the old att card in it read it but with the simple mobile it just comes up as carrier.
